Primarily, thank you so much to St. Martin’s Press, NetGalley, and B. A. Paris for the ARC of The Prisoner. Admittedly, this was the first Paris book that I have read and it will definitely not be my last. The short chapters made me fly through the book while thinking I could get through one more chapter, and then one more…and then one more. Amelie was such a loveable and well-developed character. I actually almost felt too sorry for her for all of her life circumstances. There were so many twists and turns that throughout the book I was wondering how everything would be explained in a way that didn’t feel clumsy. My complaint was that there seemed to be too much explanation at the end, to the point where I was wondering how long it would actually take the author to wrap it up. I think it was just a little bit too far-fetch and convoluted for it to need that much explanation. This book was so complex but a very easy read. I think I expected a little more after all the hype surrounding this author but it may be to my advantage that this was my first.

So good and twisty! Amelie is a young girl who lost her mom and dividing during childbirth and then her Dad to illness. She settles on London where she makes friends and married to a questionable rich man Ned. Things start unraveling when she is mistreated and kept a prisoner by Ned - and that’s before she and Med were actually kidnapped. Will she get out? Why was she kidnapped.? Are her captors on her side? So twisty and good I had to stay up late a few nights because I just wanted to know what happened!

B.A.Paris never fails in writing great books. I love stories where it keeps you guessing till the end. I received an ARC from Netgalley of this book and it did not disappoint. The story grabs you from the start. We follow Amelie as she starts her life over and marries a handsome billionaire, Ned.

But things get hairy when both of them are kidnapped but separated. What you think will happen has a bit of a twist to it as you read on. And turning pages is definitely what you will want to do in this book. You think you know the story - but really you dont - and the author keeps you guessing and then being surprised of the turn of events as you read.

Definitely a TBR to be added to your pile of books. Release date is November 1, 2022, so either preorder or mark your calendar to get this one. #fourstars #netgalley

🤔💭: First off, thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me an eARC of this book and I am voluntarily leaving my review! I’ve read other books from this author that I’ve enjoyed so definitely was excited to check this one out. I enjoyed this storyline and how it went back and forth to give us context on what was happening and everything tied together nicely. Amelie lost both of her parents and has moved to London to start a life on her own. She gets swept up into the glamorous lifestyle and ends up marrying billionaire Ned Hawthorne. One day she wakes up in a pitch black room not knowing where she is. Who are these mysterious captors and why has she been taken? I really loved the majority of the book but the ending just kind of fell a little flat for me and I still had a few unanswered questions but overall still was a great read!

The development of the characters was thoughtful and encouraged me to try to figure them out. The plot was solid and moved at a good pace. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and it kept me intrigued to the last page!

This was a little wild! As a super fast-paced thriller, this book had lots of twists and turns that had me thinking I knew what was happening - only to realize I didn't. I do feel like there were some unfinished pieces to this story I would have loved closure to; anyone else? Overall, a fast and fun page-turner!

I am a huge fan of BA Paris! Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read The Prisoner!

Amelie is forced to grow up fast at just 17 years old. She lost her mother in her childhood and later her father as a 17 year old girl. This forces her to grow up quickly and learn everything there is to know about cooking and cleaning. When her father dies, she's forced to become homeless working restaurant jobs, barely surviving. That is until she comes across a beautiful women, Carolyn crying in a coffee shop. This is when Amelie finally catches a break. Carolyn hires Amelie as her live in house-keeper and she can finally save up to her dream of becoming a lawyer.

That is until Ned Hawthorne comes into her life and turns her life upside down. Her dream of becoming a lawyer forces her into something that changes her life forever, Very quick read! Couldn't put it down! 4 stars!

B.A. Paris is a brilliant writer of suspense and mystery. Her previous novels are widely read and enjoyed by so many audiences -- myself included. I have really enjoyed her past novels, but The Prisoner didn't resonate with me. I had a difficult time connecting to the characters and the ending didn't feel satisfying.

This is my first read by B. A. Paris and I really enjoyed it!

The Prisoner was a story that had me guessing over and over. Like Amelie, I thought I’d had the kidnappers figured out but I was all wrong! Such a surprise!!

I loved the way the first section was written in short snippets bouncing from the past to the present. It made the story easy to follow and didn’t allow for any stagnation. It also wrapped all of the different characters into a nice package so I quickly knew who everyone was and where they fit in.

And that ending… I’m holding onto that “maybe”. Poor Amelie had lost so so much. It lends to the possibility of her having a connection to someone who would understand her. Also, maybe it’s my recent dark smut exposure but I wouldn’t be at all mad about a little romantic fantasy here. 😂

I went into this thriller not expecting much because of the reviews, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the end! Though the first part can kind of drag on when you’re in Amelie’s “present” timeline while she’s being held as a prisoner, her “past” timeline was what kept me turning page after page. I *needed* to figure out how she got herself in the situation she was in & why. By the end of Part 1/start of Part 2, I honestly thought I had the entire book figured out. It just seemed so simple & I’ll be honest, I was kind of disappointed. But then, just as Amelie thinks she’s got it figured out, you realize she doesn’t and you’re also wrong! I had a theory about the twist but I couldn’t make it work, so I dropped it HA. *But*… B.A. Paris was one step ahead with a solid twist that actually made perfect sense with the explanation at the end. For a change, I actually liked how this thriller ended - albeit, I was a little put off that there wasn’t an epilogue or something, as it did seem a little abrupt. But, all in all, I enjoyed this read! And it was a SUPER quick one, too!

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Another great book written by B. A. Paris. After the death of her father, 17 year old Amelie moves to London and tries making it on her own. After having lost her job and down in her luck, she meets Carolyn who extends her hand by offering a live in housekeeper who quickly becomes like a surrogate older sister and her 2 close friends Lina and Justine help round out the family she's been longing for. Shortly after moving out and accepting a job at the girls company, Amelie meets billionaire CEO Ned Hawthorpe. As plots unfold leading up to their kidnapping leaving Amelie in a lightless room urgent to escape by flashing between the present and past Paris really brings you into the characters lives and emotions while perfectly describing the places and scenery surrounding her abduction.

The Prisoner is a well thought out thriller! BA Paris makes you really feel the stress of being kept captive. The story felt new and exciting and very entertaining. I would absolutely recommend this book to lovers of thrillers!

I had such high hopes since I loved Behind Closed Doors so much. This book was very slow read with very little happening to keep you engaged or intrigued and very repetitive. You just just felt so sorry for Amelia and the life she has had and all the tragedy she faces that it made me sad to read.

Jed is one awful person that you can’t kill off fast enough. You figure out pretty early in book what is going to happen so there wasn’t any surprises or twists.

Expect the unexpected is a perfect description for this author’s work. I’ve been a fan since their first release and look forward to each and every story. This one is no exception. It grabs you front the start and all you can do is hold on for a wild ride. The twists and turns keep you wondering till the end because every time you think you have it, you don’t. Another terrific story you went to click because who doesn’t love a good suspenseful and mysterious read.

I love Paris's twisty mysteries, and I enjoyed this more than some of her previous books. Good mystery that kept me guessing until the end, trying to piece together little clues and hints throughout the book. Amelie, the main character, is likeable and strong in her own way, naive and young but not whiny. I loved that the typical ending point in a mystery novel just...wasn't. Definitely one I'll recommend in the library and to friends!

The Prisoner follows Amelie, a young orphan who has started her life over in London. Amelie marries a billionaire and her life seems to be turning around, but then she and her husband are kidnapped. The story alternates between Amelie's time in captivity and the past.
I will say that this book really surprised me. I have read a few of BA Paris's other novels and haven't been blown away, but I enjoyed this book. The story started off slow, and I was initially a little bored, but then when the twists started they didn't stop. There were so many twists, in fact, that I was a little confused at times.
Overall, I liked this book. It was a very quick read once the plot picked up and the story was original and not what I expected. Even when I thought I had predicted what would happen next, I was wrong. However, I was a little disappointed in the ending- I felt like it was very abrupt and left a lot unsaid.
I would definitely recommend this and feel it is one of BA Paris's better books.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book

Amelie has had a hard life. Her mother died in childbirth a while ago and her father has been ill for most of her life. When he dies, she is left completely alone in the world, so she decides to set off for London to get a job and save enough money to go to school to become a lawyer. She's only 16, so it is difficult for her to start over in the big city. She's working as a waitress and moving from hostel to hostel when she catches the eye of Carolyn in a cafe. Carolyn is a busy career woman who's recently gone through a break-up. After speaking briefly with Amelie, Carolyn offers her a live-in job cooking and cleaning (sounds like the start of a Dateline episode to me). The story jumps between this backstory and the present time, where Amelie and her husband Ned are being held separately in dark rooms, after apparently having been kidnapped. She has no idea where they are or why they are being held. Ned is the son of a wealthy businessman and also wealthy in his own right, but he has made enemies along the way throughout his career. Amelie must figure out how to escape and also try to work out who took them and why.

The story was interesting, but I found the explanation at the end of the book somewhat rushed and confusing.

This book is jam-packed with suspense and takes you on a wild ride where nothing is as it seems. I recommend Paris to fans of Shari LaPena and J.P. Delaney.

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.

B.A. Paris is one of my favorite author’s so thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s press for the ARC of this book!

This book starts off strong and you’ll be hooked immediately. It is about Amelie, who was orphaned at 17 and basically living on the streets, when she meets a woman who takes her in. This woman changes Amelie’s life and she gets back on her feet and lands a job working for tycoon, Ned Hawthorpe. Without giving too much away, Ned convinces Amelie to marry him to get his family off of his back. Sadly, Amelie quickly realizes Ned is not who she thought he was! She is taking prisoner due to Ned, and well, you need to read the book to find out what happens next!

The book held my attention throughout and I enjoyed the read. Amelie is such a strong, root-able character. I wish I knew what made Ned so evil, and that the author touched on this more. His character was so interesting to me!

Overall, a worthwhile read and I recommended preordering it now! B.A. Paris never disappoints!
