I enjoyed this book. I think it’s one of this authors best. I can not wait for more! Thanks to publisher for allowing me the opportunity to read this book!

This story is told in two parts. The first part is "the kidnapping," and the second part is "the reckoning" We are introduced to Amelia, who has had it rough with her parents dying and herself being on her own before she was an adult. She is moving from Paris to London, and when she overhears some talking, she finds herself getting a job cleaning an apt. Probably not the best, but hey, it is something. As our story goes on, she makes friends and eventually finds herself in a bad predicament. She ends up marrying a man named Ned, who has tons of money but seems shady from the get-go. Why were they kidnapped? Who is behind it? I did want to know more about how did Ned become the person he became? What happened in his life to have him act this way? I really liked Amelia's determination to not give and to fight back.
I do feel like I need more answers to some things that I was given, but the story's pace went really well.

When I think of mystery, I think of books just like this one, that gives all the thrills. This is a perfect book to snuggle up with on any day.

I read B.A. Paris’s books for the slow burn mystery filled with tension and unease. The Prisoner had all of these things and more! It starts off with the main character Amelie and her husband Ned being kidnapped from their home. She is held prisoner in total darkness and the story goes back and forth between the present and the past. I enjoyed Amelie as a character and wished the other characters were as fleshed out as she is. It made it hard to care about anyone but Amelie and some of the events of the story fell flat because I wasn’t invested in the other characters. The short chapters and slow burn mystery made me want to keep reading and I finished this one in a day. If you are a fan of Behind Closed Doors or The Last Mrs Parrish, you have to check out The Prisoner!

Yes, there's an untrustworthy and terrible husband. Yes, there's an ingenue-adjacent heroine who defies all odds. Yet somehow this thriller manages to feel fresh? It's not Paris's best, but certainly worth picking up this thriller about a woman who gets taken prisoner and is held in a dark room for an unknown length of time. A quick but engaging read.

Oh wow. This was a mind bending book.
I love this authors way with words. I could not put this book down. It was amazing! Gah. I need to wrap my head around this.

I enjoy B.A. Paris’s novels, so I was eager to get my hands on her latest - THE PRISONER. From the get go, I was hooked. The story starts with a kidnapping, a newlywed held hostage in a bare room with a mattress on the floor shrouded in darkness. The story after is a slow burn, but I was okay with that. I was still hooked by the high from the kidnapping and the eyebrow raising events, days leading up to it. Yet… the rest of the story was a bit stagnant for me and didn’t quite pick back up. The characters were surface level, lacked development, which made it hard to sympathize with anyone, especially with the MC. Her circumstances weren’t fully explained, just accepted as truth and that was hard to get past.

2 stars⭐️⭐️

After losing both her parents at an early age and living on the streets of London, Amelie finally catches a break– a kind woman gives her a job, a place to stay, and friendship. Before long, Amelie gets married to handsome billionaire, Ned Hawthorne. But things take a dark turn when Amelie wakes up in a pitch-black room, kidnapped right from her bed. Who has taken her, and why?

This book takes place in two time periods: the past, where we learn how Amelie meets Ned, and the present, where we spend most of the time in the dark while Amelie eats and bumps into things and tries to escape. Eventually Amelie opens a letter with instructions and things get a little interesting, but the final explanation drags and is rather underwhelming.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

First of all, I LOVE this author. Her books have been some of my favorites. And this one hooked me from the very first page.

But then, sadly, it didn’t stay that way.

I hated Ned—there was nothing about him that allowed me to understand why Amelie would have married him.

The kidnapping…just left me frustrated. It took too long to get to the reason. And I was underwhelmed.

Not my favorite by her, but will for sure read everything she writes!

I’ve only read one other from Paris (Behind Closed Doors) and The Prisoner didn’t rank quite as high for me. That being said… The Prisoner was still a hard-to-put-down thriller that I devoured.

Overall a 4 star read for me! Towards the end, I did feel like I was ready for it to wrap up and finish, but it didn’t feel like it was dragging by any means. Can’t wait for pub day and to ready more from Paris!

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from St. Martin’s Press and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

B.A. Paris knows thrillers like no one else. The Prisoner is the latest in their long list of must reads if you haven’t quite yet. If you’re an established fan, you know their nail-bitting, edge-of-your-seat must read style. Set a night aside just to read this thriller and enjoy.

Thank you Net Galley and the publisher for an ARC of The Prisoner.
I was intrigued with this book from the beginning and as it went on I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. This is one of those books that you can tell the author has put a lot of thought into it. There were a lot of different scenarios to keep track of and try to figure out what exactly was going on and who were these kidnappers ? Yes, it’s far fetched but exciting. I would highly recommend this book.

The Prisoner is extremely fast-paced and unputdownable and I loved every page! The story alternates between Amelie’s present day nightmare as The Prisoner and her near past recalling the details of how she came to be in her current situation. I stayed up much too late reading this and now it’s my favorite of all B.A. Paris books. Highly recommend!

Thanks to NetGalley for an advanced reader copy in exchange for my unbiased review.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. I love BA Paris, but this was not my favorite of hers.
Amelie did not have the easiest life BEFORE she met Ned. Amelie was orphaned and on the streets at a young age. She happened to be lucky enough to meet Carolyn who took her in and "saved her life". As Amelie gets to know Carolyn, she meets her friends and even gets a job. She ends up working for a wealthy magazine owner, Ned Hathorpe. As Amelie gets involved with Ned, her life gets more complicated and much worse than she could imagine.
Amelie ends up kidnapped and alone in a dark room. Why is she there? Who is responsible for this kidnapping and treatment? Amelie has time to consider all of this while she is held captive. And the most nagging question.....who is Ned really?
The book kept me interested and I wanted to uncover what was happening. I just had a harder time suspending my disbelief in this one. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the advanced copy of this book.

B.A. Paris' latest book, "The Prisoner," finds Amelie and her wealthy and famous husband, kidnapped and being held hostage. Told between alternating timelines of Ameile's past and present, the reader comes to wonder, why was she kidnapped, and why does she feel more safe in the hands of her kidnappers than with her new husband?

Unfortunately this suspense novel did not live up to its hype for me. The writing itself was good, and the idea of the storyline was interesting as well. The main character, Ameile comes across as a wonderful woman who has come through some very difficult times, so it is even more difficult to read about another hardship in her life - to the point where I wondered how much more a girl could take. Without wanting to give away any spoilers, I found the chapters from her past difficult to read due to the circumstances Ameile was in and others may find this triggering as well. While the author does do a good job and throwing in twists and turns, overall it seemed somewhat unbelievable, and then quickly and conveniently wrapped up in the end.

While this was not my favorite piece by Paris, I do look forward to what she comes up with next!

B.A. Paris does it again!

Amelie has had a rough life and feels like her life is heading in the right direction when a chance meeting with Carolyn gives her a start at the life she has always wanted. She has new friends and things are looking much better for young Amelie, that is until she mets Ned.

After not listening to her new friends about the type of person Ned is she takes a trip with him to Vegas and things start to take a turn for the worse before they even leave London.

After returning from London she realizes the mistakes she has made but is now trapped, until she and Ned get kidnapped. With nobody looking for her she starts to wonder is her life with her kidnappers better than the one she had with Ned?

This story kept me guessing the entire time about who the kidnappers were, why was she taken with Ned and would she ever escape? An absolute page turner with so many great twists along the way that I couldn't put it down and read it in a day.

BA Paris is hit or miss for me. I loved Behind Closed Doors & The Therapist but this was a total miss for me. There’s next to no character development, unimportant storylines, and gaping plot holes.

The plot is unbelievable, all over the place and a total mess by the end. The majority of the book I was confused. I started out liking it and it’s an easy read but I was horrified when 75% in, it started seriously declining.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press for the ARC in exchange for my brutally honest review.

I received an advanced copy of this on Kindle from netgalley thanks to them and St Martins Press this will be out November 1st but you can preorder it now !

I have been on a BA Paris kick lately - so far it def seems there is a theme of very toxic men manipulating women and keeping them captive or in horrible situations - though there is a common theme it is always done in a surprising way with many twists this was definitely FULL of twists !!! I really enjoyed it , it kept me engaged and on my toes with my “nose stuck in this book” I had to know what was going to happen and what was going on !!! Amelie is definitely a fighter and I can’t say I wouldn’t have been tempted by options presented to her as well so not faulting her…. School makes you basically sell your soul one way or another and the cost keeps going up so girl I get it!!! And let’s be real people marry for less / worse so it can totally be a business deal I am not shaming you as long as you both understand the arrangement and actually uphold your end (rude much)! Ned is absolutely a person with a punch ale face I just now it !!! I will leave it all there as to not spoil anything else ..if you want more details you will just have to read it to find out !!

If you like murder mystery and whodunnit or books that make you say “wtf !?!?” Then this is a good book for you!

Another incredible read by BA Paris. Each book gets better and better! I could not have imagined a more perfect ending, or beginning for that matter. What an interesting story.

This book messes with your mind in more than one way. It is a good psychological thriller. It was a little slow to get going, but once it started up I didn’t want to stop.

Amelie is a young woman who is all alone in this world. She only had her father, and he died before she was of legal age. She ran away to avoid being out in foster care, and ended up in London. After weeks on the street, she meets Carolyn. Carolyn takes her in, and introduces her to her friends. She gets a job and starts trying to save for college. Some of her new friends work at a famous magazine, and take her along to a work party. She gains a job at the magazine and is shocked when the boss, Ned (who is very rich) asks her to go the Las Vegas with him for an interview. While she is there he proposes a quick sham wedding for one month: he gets his parents off his back about an arranged marriage and she would get 100,000 pounds to pay her way through college. But you know what they say: if it sounds too good to be true…

I was not prepared for the twists in this book. You start in dual timelines flipping back and forth until you catch up to the present time about halfway through the book. Amelie is smart, determined, and scrappy. She is going to need everything in her to get through the next 31 days.
