As we all know I love a good suspense novel, so when I was lucky enough to score an ARC (thanks NetGalley!) of B.A. Paris’ upcoming release The Prisoner, I was thrilled. Overall, I had super low expectations going into this one based on some lackluster reviews I had read. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Certainly wasn’t my favorite of her books, and some of the plot points and characters got a bit convoluted at times, but I had a hard time putting it down and found myself carving time out of my schedule to finish it. I’d say it was a solid suspense novel, just not my favorite storyline - a tad farfetched and the ending left me wanting more. The Prisoner comes out 11/1/2022. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. 📚📚📚 1/2 (3.5 stars)

If it seems too good to be true, it probably is- wise words that our protagonist clearly didn't listen to. Amelie is just trying to keep her head down and save up enough to pay for college when along comes an offer to marry a rich guy- just for one month- and then she can have $100,000 as a divorce settlement. Only this guy is a master manipulator and possibly a murderer, but it's too late. She and her "husband" have been kidnapped.
It's one of those "is the narrator telling us everything" kinds of book which can be thrilling or tedious- this one definitely landing on the thrilling side of that coin. A fast and fun read with a satisfying conclusion.

Oh my gosh I absolutely loved this book! This was my first from this author and now I can’t wait to read more!

Another fantastic story by B.A. Paris!
This story was super unique and had me totally invested. I had no idea I was going to be so intrested in an abduction story but the detials in this had me hooked from the first chapter. I loved how the story unraveled through the two timelines. I was surprised at several different times during this story.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this one early! I can't wait to recommend it to my friends.

This was an a decent thriller read. I wasn't blown away by it, but it hooked me in from the beginning and kept me interested.
3.5/5

Books by B. A. Paris are automatic reads for me. Her latest book, The Prisoner, is told in two parts. The first part goes back and forth between past and present. This book quickly drew me in and kept me reading. I loved the short chapters! Every time I needed to put the book down, I kept telling myself I could read one more chapter.
Although this is not by favorite book by B. A. Paris, it is a solid thriller. I was left with some questions as to how some of the characters could be so heartless, but maybe this was Paris’ goal.
Thank you, NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press, for the digital ARC in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts and opinions expressed above are my own.

BA Paris does it again. This book is an absolute winner. I couldn’t wait to delve into this book and immediately read it constantly. The best thriller of the year.

Always excited for a new BA Paris book and this one does not disappoint! An interesting premise...a quick marriage to fund law school but the heroine gets alot more than she bargained for. Just when you think you have it figured out..definitely didn't see the ending coming. Recommended!

Another solid book by BA Paris! While definitely not her best, it’s worth the read for the first 60%. The Prisoner hooks you in from the first pages, and has you craving to find out what in the world is going on and who has kidnapped Amelie. However, once she is let go, the story quickly unravels and I was left disappointed and wanting an explanation for almost everything- what made Ned such a monster, why did Hunter really not help, why did Amelie not try harder to contact Carolyn, and many more questions. Overall, it’s a quick and easy read. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you so much NetGalley and the publisher for an opportunity to read an ARC of this book. I have read everything B.A. Paris has written and usually they keep me on the edge of my seat, engaged at every turn. The beginning of this book certainly did - I was hooked from the very first chapter. I had so many questions after the kidnapping took place and as all of the pieces started to come together leading up to that I couldn't believe it. The second half of the book however was not as engaging. I wanted Amelie to find her answers but honestly, I didn't want to read about it. I had already figured out who was involved with the kidnapping and the twist that was associated with the "how" they were a part of things well before it was revealed.
Overall, not my favorite from this author but I will 100% continue reading anything B.A. Paris puts out there!

The Prisoner by B.A. Paris is a novel that I read in one day! I could not put it down. The suspense grabs you from the very first page. What has happened to cause two people to become prisoners and how do they get out? Why are they being held in the first place? I enjoy reading all of B.A. Paris's novels and this is no exception. .You will be left guessing until the very last page.

I very much enjoy BA Paris books so was excited to receive an ARC from NetGalley and the publisher.
The first part of the novel was amazing and a very quick read. Unfortunately, the 2nd half wasn't quite up to the same pace, but that could be due to how good the first half was.
All in all, highly recommend its great pacing and plot, just temper expectations for part 2.

Amelie has always been a survivor. As she builds a life for herself, she is swept up into a glamorous lifestyle where she marries a handsome billionaire. But then, Amelie wakes up in a pitch-black room, not knowing where she is. Why has she been taken? Who are her mysterious captors? And why does she soon feel safer here, imprisoned, than she had begun to feel with her husband?
Alright...I used to be a HUGE fan of B.A. Paris. But her last two books (The Dilemma and The Therapist) were just...meh. Totally disappointing. So my hopes were low but optimistic for this one.
She really knocked it out of the park on this one. It was a fast, thrill-ride of a book and I could not put it down. It slowed down at the end as everything was revealed but overall, I LOVED IT.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.

This novel started off suspenseful,, mysterious and 'edge of seat' reading. Unfortunately the second part of the book dragged and was a little disappointing.
With all that said, I do recommend it for it's sometimes outlandish and surprising ending. Thank you #NetGalley for the advanced copy.

This book is a sinister somewhat Cinderella-esque story. Amelie is quite down on her luck until she meets new friends who take her under their wing. Things are going great! Then Amelie gets taken. Things are not so great after that. Told in the present and through flashbacks. You do have to suspend some belief because some parts really are like a fairytale that wouldn’t happen in real life. Overall, I read it in almost one sitting. Really good book.

3.5 stars as some parts were much better than other parts, just as most of the books by this author were much better than this one, but it is well worth reading.
Amelie has had a rougher life than many. Orphaned at 17, but determined not to be raised in a home, she makes a life for herself when a kindly person takes her in, gives her a job and a chance to get ahead.
She marries her handsome boss under an agreed pretense, but then feels trapped. Spoiler alert-When she is kidnapped, she assumes hubby is causing this only to fin this is not so.
The story is told in chapters alternating between her past and the present where she is held captive in a totally dark room. It all comes together in the end to make complete sense. Amelie is one t feel sorry for, but definitely not evil hubby.
Thank you NetGalley for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest opinion.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for granting me a copy of this book in return for my honest opinion.
The book was just hohum for me. It is a story that I just expected more from the author. The characters were very predictable as was the plot. I expected a bit if mystery. Just didn't do it for me
You be the judge. I give it 3 stars.

✨Book Review✨
The Prisoner by B.A Paris
3/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️
First, thank you again to @netgalley for my ARC copy of this read for an honest review.
I really enjoyed the first half of this book. This book starts off so good. It’s suspenseful, exciting and I’m hooked. Definitely turning pages... but then I’m left conflicted 🥴
My favorite points:
The short chapters makes this read a breeze. The sad back story of who Ameile is, all she goes through so young orphaned with no money. Her breakthrough of finally finding a semblance of family down to the description of where Amelie is being kept, and her weird relationship with her narcissistic husband.
But then you get to part 2, the second half of the book and you get the reason behind as to why Amelie and her husband were kidnapped. And its just a bit repetitive and dragged on. That the end thrill falls flat for me.
I really enjoy B.A. Paris as an author. My favorite from her is Behind Closed Doors. This one just isn’t a favorite.
Doesn’t mean it won’t be for you, so be on the lookout for this read coming out November 2022!

My thanks to Net Galley and St. Martin's Press for allowing me to review this advanced copy.
I really enjoyed this book. Grips you right away with the kidnapping of Amelie Hawthorpe, a French orphan ,and he husband Ned. You don't get the WHY. Book then goes into 2 timelines of the present with the kids, and how Amelie got together with her husband leading up to the kidnapping. The story comes together and another thing that hooked me also was how Amelie states she feels safer at times with the kidnapping than with her own husband, which will reveal another surprise.
Highly recommend this book. The only reason for not giving 5 stars is the ending.

Of the four B.A. Paris books I have read now, I enjoyed this one the most. I felt instantly connected to and drawn to Amelie, and I loved learning more about her background and her friendships.
This book is set up in an alternating format between Amelie being kidnapped and held by her captors. and Amelie's life prior to these events. The way it is written works to build the suspense and keep you engaged the entire time -- and I felt so much stress and emotion for and with Amelie.
I didn't guess the ending or the twists, and always appreciate that in a thriller. Would definitely recommend this one to keep you on your toes!
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book!
