I received an ARC of, The Prisoner, by B.A. Paris. What a story, it kept me on the edge of my seat. Amelie has been kidnapped, held prisoner, will she be freed, or will she always feel like a prisoner?

Ba Paris does it again. Great story, amazing twists, couldn't stop reading. I look forward to her continued success. I'd say the only thing i didn't 100% love was the title, but other than that, one of my favorite reads this summer.

This was two different books in one, great first half. Struggled with the second half. I did however enjoy this book and couldn't put it down. Thank to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the ARC

2.5 rounded up to 3. Hard to believe this was a B.A. Paris book. It was okay. I did not like the ending at all. Normally I love this author's books but this one is a disappointment.

I enjoyed this book! I think my favorite B.A. Paris book is The Breakdown but this one was good as well. The story was good and kept me guessing. I enjoyed the two timelines. The payoff was a bit "extreme" but overall, it was a good story. I finished it quickly and the story kept me wanting more.

This is it! This is the book of the year! It has everything. BA Paris delivers, yet again, a flawless tale of suspense and drama. I am always amazed by how she can take any scenario and turn it into a claustrophobic thriller, and this time, inside of another claustrophobic thriller at the same time. Claustrophobic thriller inception!

I’ll admit, when I saw the summary for this one, I was skeptical. When I started it, I was even more worried. It throws you right into the story without a chance to catch your breath or get your wits about you. We immediately meet Amalie as she’s being held prisoner in the dark. We don’t know why or by whom.

We then go to the past to build the story of how we ended up here. It only took a few chapters and I was HOOKED. Having already lost her mother, Amalie quickly ran off to London upon her father’s death and after a brief stint in hostels and then homelessness, she meets a wonderful woman named Carolyn who takes her in as a live-in assistant. She earns her keep and they become incredibly close. Carolyn and her friends, Justine and Lina, become her chosen family.

We know from the present that she is married to Ned Walthorpe, the socialite owner of a magazine that her friends are associated with but we don’t know why and we can gather that she and Ned are not fond of each other, to put it lightly. So why are they married and where are they?! Is she a target here or just collateral damage in a ploy to hurt the Walthorpe family?

The unfolding of this was masterful. They overuse the term “unputdownable” but that’s exactly what this was. The journey was great. I was savoring it, not wanting it to end, but also needing the answers and it was wrapped up beautifully. I should have never doubted this author!

Thanks so much to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read and review in exchange for an honest review.

A fast-paced thriller that held my attention and I was able to read it one sitting! B. A. Paris continues to majorly impress me.

I've enjoyed previous works by this author and was excited to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review. The book didn't disappoint. It was a fast-paced thriller that was easy to read over a weekend. The dual timelines mean the suspense continues to build throughout the plot.
The main character, Amelie, was incredibly sympathetic, well-developed, and easy to root for. The secondary characters were not. The lack of development in the secondary characters and the very abrupt ending was my only complaints. Overall, this is a solid thriller of similar quality and subject matter that one would expect from this author. I'd definitely read another or recommend it.

This book was fantastic! I rarely give a 5 star review, but I could not put this one down. I read it in two days.
The story was fast paced and kept me intrigued from the first page. We are taken chapter by chapter between the present where Amelie is being held prisoner in complete darkness with a captor that never speaks, to the past and Amelie's whirlwind marriage to Ned.
The small reveals throughout the story keep you invested and keep you guessing. I definitely recommend this one.

“What’s behind your eyes can be your own worst prison”

This was quite the page turner for me. It’s a past and present timeline that moves pretty quickly, but is easy to follow throughout without getting lost.

Amelie Lamont has her own troubles and is trying to find a quick fix to then when met with a proposition from Ned Hawthorpe. I will say I’m usually pretty good at guessing the twists, but this one surprised me!

My only issue is the ending. I do wish it would of carried out a little more in details about Amelie.

Overall, another well written book by B.A Paris that I really enjoyed.

Thank you NetGalley and B.A Paris for the opportunity to read the eARC.

This was a fantastic read!!! The Prisoner kept me hooked from the very first page. The chapters alternates from past to present and kept the story moving very fast. Would definitely recommend!!

The Prisoner by B.A. Paris had my attention from the first page. The book opens with a first-hand account of a woman, Amelie, being abducted and I was immediately intrigued with the way she was processing the information. I felt as lost and confused as she did, wondering how she ended up in this situation. As she started focusing on how to survive, I was hooked.

As the story progresses, the reader sees two timelines and starts to understand Amelie’s life before the abduction. I loved the way the way it all came together, as the reader starts to understand the motivation behind her captors. I was not expecting it to unfold the way it did.

The first 70% of the book is tense and fast-paced, with a mystery I couldn’t put down. The last 30% slowed a bit and was focused on closing out any loose ends in the story. I really loved the premise and the overall plot but did wish the tension hadn’t dropped off towards the end.

Overall, this is a solid thriller and one I would recommend to those looking for a page-turner. I’ve read all of the author’s novels and this is in the top 2 for me, along with The Dilemma. They both place characters in seemingly impossible situations, where they make in-the-moment decisions that they are forced to reckon with longer-term. If that sounds interesting to you – give this a try!

Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the advanced copy! I was really looking forward to reading the latest from this author and appreciated the chance to preview it.

Amelie is an orphan who builds her life up. In the past and preset she continually shows she’s a survivor. When she finds herself in a dark room being held captive, the questions of who and why she is there will leave you guessing. This is a fast read that kept me intrigued the whole time!

4.5 stars rounded up!
One sentence synopsis: Amelie Lamont is an orphan when she moves to London and marries millionaire Ned Hawthorpe, only to one day be kidnapped and wake-up in a pitch black room.
This was a fast-paced, action packed thriller! We're thrown into the middle of the story from the very beginning and forced to pick our way through bit-by-bit in alternating timelines between the past and the present.
I loved the main character and how B.A. Paris added Stockholm Syndrone and other various psychological affects being kept a prisoner can trigger in the victim.
I absolutely adored the plot! It was different and unexpected and I think Paris did a great job keeping us guessing who the kidnappers were, what their intentions were, who can we rely on, and what will they do next?
What I didn't like was the execution of the conclusion. Even though we got answers, there wasn't personal closure for the main character. The chapters just suddenly stopped and I was left wanting more.
I get that we weren't supposed to get a happy ending, but I still needed closure.

A little more of a slower burn than a lot of the other books I have read from this author. Still good, and kept me interested during a day at the pool.

I have read most of this author's books and I have given inconsistent ratings for them. Some books were solid 5 stars; some were 2 stars. Sadly, this book, for me, was on the lower range. The first half of the book (The Kidnapping) kept me engaged and interested in finding out what was going on. The second half of the book (The Reckoning) was just a big mess! Between Carl, Hunter, Mr. Carr, Mr. Barriston and Lukas, it was too confusing. Not that it mattered much - I wasn't invested in any character besides for Amelie. This book was just meh.

I throughly enjoyed this edge-of-your-seat thriller! Though the twists were somewhat predictable, it was still a fun ride.

The Prisoner is a psychological page turning thriller that will leave you guessing until the very last page. Amelie is a strong but vulnerable character trying to build a new life for herself after a difficult past. She builds friendships and finally feels like her life is coming together. She's happy. Then she meets Ned Hawthorne. Ned turns her life upside down. Meeting him holds her prisoner physically, mentally, and emotionally. As her life falls apart around her, she realizes she needs answers. Who kidnapped her and why?

A tense read told in two timelines. If you like thrillers, try B.A. Paris, The Prisoner coming November 1, 2022.

Thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC.
