This book had my attention from the very first sentence, and I didn’t want to put it down! The plot was intricate but easy to follow. I sure didn’t guess who the kidnappers were! If I had to think of a criticism, I’d say that I didn’t really like the ending. I felt like there wasn’t closure, like there should be another chapter. If you like psychological thrillers, then this book needs to be at the top of your list of books to read!

I received an advanced readers copy of this book through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book by an author I have enjoyed in the past. I had high hopes for this book but unfortunately it fell flat. I got less than half way through and just didn't find it holding my interest. This was a did not finish for me.

4 solid stars

Gosh B.A. Paris knows how to weave a good mystery! This book was unputdownable! She gives just enough in each chapter to keep you enveloped, then brings all those pieces together in a nice tidy bow at the end! I think this is one of my favorites by her to date!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
4 stars. Quick engaging read, I finished it in about 24 hours and thoroughly enjoyed it. My only criticism is that ending felt a bit abrupt. I didn’t mind the ambiguity of it, however it didn’t feel like the end to me. I expected to turn the page and continue the story but instead found the acknowledgments page. Overall, I would recommend this book.

The Prisoner is my favorite mystery of the summer.
The title is not as singular as it seems, nor is the plot.
A marriage of convenience quickly evolves into a true nightmare as it is reveals just how evil the husband is.
A kidnapping of the couple occurs and is that really as it seems??
Murders, perceptions, and a great big jigsaw puzzle of a narrative will keep you on the edge of your seat.

B.A. Paris is one of my favourite authors, and I was so excited to get a chance to read this book. I could not put it down. I even got up early this morning to finish it. I didn’t think that any one of her books could be better than BEHIND CLOSED DOORS, but this one is close. It’s really having me question my feelings about characters. While I anticipated part of the twist, that was only true minutes before it happened. This book is disturbing at times, but oh so wonderful! A ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ read in my books! B.A. Paris, you did it again! ❤️❤️❤️ #avivaandfriendsrecos #bookstagram

As one of the top suspense novelists I hold B A Paris to a higher standard than the run of the mill four-books-a-year contemporaries. Rightly or wrongly, expectations are high for this new release. The first half of this abduction story is a five star read - why is she being held, will she escape, will she die - all compulsive reading and strong writing. Part Two, which is the last shorter section was not what I expected. I needed to know the vital answers I was invested in during Part 1. To have them simply narrated in a few paragraphs by another character as to who?what? why? it all happened seemed almost like reading a spoiler review and not the book itself. Five stars for part one and 2 stars for Part 2 brings me 3.50 and rounded up to a generous 4.

Thank you St. Martin’s Press for the ARC of this ebook. I love this author so I was so excited to receive this ebook. I found it a slow read. It was confusing and jumped around without making sense. A teenager on her own is given a live in housekeeping job and suddenly time has gone by and they are best friends. Then she suddenly needs a new job and has one immediately. Then, boom she is in a fake marriage and people are dying. She is kidnapped but released due to confusing friendships. Each part could have been much shorter as it was boring reading through each section as you could predict what would occur. The ending was a complete letdown.

It just didn’t have the psychological thriller aspect that all of the other books by this author and the characters were lacklustre and I just didn’t care what happened to anyone. I guess each author is allowed one let down.

When Amelie’s father dies, she has no one and becomes homeless. To save herself, she moves to London and lives in hostels trying to get her life together. One day, she meets Carolyn and her life changes. Carolyn takes her in and makes her feel like family. When Amelie takes a new job and meets her boss Ned, everything changes. Ned not only tricks Amelie, he also brings her into his game. This was truly a story that keeps you guessing!

B.A. Paris is one author that everyone familiar with domestic suspense knows! Paris' 2016 "Behind Closed Doors" is one of the original, best works in the genre. The Prisoner, coming in November 2022, is my favorite Paris work since Behind Closed Doors. Don't miss this one; pre-order now!

Much of this read is flip-flop between two time periods. One introduces us to Amelie, a young woman who moves to France with absolutely nothing. Thanks to a stranger's kindness, she soon finds herself with employment and a group of friends. Our second storyline focuses on a woman imprisoned and wondering why . Readers will be shocked to see how these two storylines connect and move forward - a chilling tale of both getting through and experiencing the ramifications after. I appreciated the clean ending.

I highly recommend this new BA Paris -- don't skip what will be one of fall's top reads!

I always gravitate to a B.A. Paris thriller, and I oscillate between blown away and finding it predictable. The Prisoner fell in the middle for me, and that was just fine.

Part 1 goes back and forth from past to present as the reader explores how and why Amelie and her husband Ned became prisoners of their hostage takers. The questions linger about how the two ended up married, why they are hiding from each other, and why exactly no one will pay the ransom for their return.

Part 2 takes a turn and I will leave it at that to avoid spoilers. That being said, there will be a number of plot twists along that way, some that made sense and others that felt a bit underdeveloped.

This book starts quickly with its short chapters and initial timeline shifts, and it draws you in enough to want to finish it in one sitting. Thanks to NetGalley for the digital advanced reader copy!

3.5 Stars
This book is solid 3.5 stars. Amelie becomes an orphan at the age of 17 when her only remaining parent succumbs to cancer. She leaves her hometown in Paris at the age
of 17 and decides to start fresh in London. However she finds herself in a dire predicament, she loses her job and is practically homeless. She then meets a woman named Carolyn who hires her to be her housekeeper. Carolyn has turned Amelie's life around and Amelie is swept up into this new life . Through her new friends she meets Ned Hawthorpe, the son of a
billionaire and owner of Exclusives. The well renowned billionaire concocts a plan for Amelie to marry him in Las Vegas and in exchange, he will give her 100,000 dollars
so that she may pursue her dream of becoming a lawyer .Shortly after their marriage they are both kidnapped.

This story is told in two parts. The first
part is told in two timelines: past and present. The beginning of the book is reminiscent of BA Paris' earlier works , fast unputdownable, and thoroughly enjoyable. However the second half lacked suspense partially because at least half of it was filled with internal dialogue, with little movement of the plot.
Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the story and read it rather quickly and I'm still a fan and will read any new work by this author.

Many thanks to the author, NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an advanced copy of the book on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. This will be published on November 1st, 2022.

I really enjoyed this one. I have read all of BA. Paris’ books and this was one of my favorites. The book is broken into 3 parts. The first part was amazing and suspenseful! I couldn’t wait to see where it was going. Part 2 was good but definitely fell short. The ending was a little disappointing. However, I definitely recommend reading it. 4 stars from me!

Thank you to NetGalley for an arc of this book!

A solid 3.5 stars. This book is reminiscent of BA Paris’ earlier works in the first half. Fast paced, unputdownable, and thoroughly enjoyable. The second half reminds me of her book about a birthday party. Plenty of internal dialogue for about 30% of the end of the book, with little movement of the plot. I didn’t really care for the second half, and skipped a few chapters to get to the big reveal. By the end, I didn’t really care for the reveal, but I was satisfied by the ending.

While I usually love Paris works, this one fell a bit flat for me. I enjoyed the writing style and short chapters, but I was never fully invested in any of the main characters.

Stellar! Kept me on my toes from the start and really reminded me why I fell in love with BA Paris in the first place. Non stop twists and turns and excitement

I was really excited to read this new book by BA Paris. I didn't hate this book but I didn't really love it either. On a scale from 1 to 10, I'd say a 6.5. It wasn't like edge of your seat thriller but was a good story. The reveal at the end was almost too unbelievable.

Amelie leaves Paris at 17 after her father passes away from cancer as she has no other family. After some bad luck of losing her job and housing, Amelie meets a woman named Carolyn who hires her to be her housekeeper so Amelie can save for college. Flash forward a couple years and Amelie has wonderful friends, a great job, and overall a perfect life. In a turn of events, Amelie gets married to a very rich man and not long after their wedding they are both kidnapped. They hope her husbands father will pay the ransom but what will happen if he doesn’t? This story is told in two parts. The first part is told in two timelines: past and present. I enjoyed the story and read it rather quickly but it is not my favorite from B.A. Paris. Some parts drug out a bit to me but I’m still a fan and will read any new work by this author. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for an ARC of this book.
