Tahira has spent her career researching what we’re supposed to be fairly benign spores falling to earth from space. Her father was involved in building the towers that kept the little creatures under control. Only now the spores have turned out to be much more sinister and are definitely no longer under control. The book follows Tahira and her friend Zareen, who is a member of a marginalized and feared group. They have been friends since childhood, despite the fact that Zareen’s people are sequestered to an area and kept there behind a fence. This book was confusing and slow moving at times, but the Riebeckite were fascinating.

This is only the first part of the story. Here, we learn that the asteroid that hit the moon has some little beings falling down the Earth. In the beginning, those are simply a nuisance, but later turns out they are a bigger threat. The main character is doing a research on it and gets in a big trouble doing it. The story is set on an island in Middle East with the two nations fighting with each other for no apparent reason, with one side totally dominating the other, plus the evil Americans watching over them and doing various despicable things, and all three suspecting each other in using the aliens to their advantage to get the rest.
There is not much is learned about the aliens, although there is a some hint about their nature presented in the epilogue. The action is quite fast and exciting. The characters are quite black and white and somewhat cartoonish.
I have not decided if I want to read the next part in the series.

I received the book from NetGalley

This was a nice find, since I missed it when it was released in 2021. This has action, some slower parts (variety and good pacing), and interesting characters. A solid sci-fi story. Recommended.

Thanks very much for the free review copy for review!!
