I think Regency era novels have a unique charm when it comes to humor, and this book nailed it! It was hilarious, clever, and incredibly charming.

Our main character, Kitty, is a fearless force who stops at nothing to rescue her family from financial ruin. She's incredibly relatable and a breath of fresh air.

And Radcliffe... there's something irresistible about ridiculously wealthy men with a sharp wit.

The slow-burn romance, the palpable tension, those lingering glances... these nuances were truly the highlights for me. While I found the pacing a bit off at times, overall, I wholeheartedly recommend this book.

I did not enjoy these characters which made the book itself fall flat for me unfortunately. new authors are always a hit or miss for me and this was definitely not a hit

Enjoyable, quick read. I liked the main character and her plucky exploits through the ton. Don’t expect any Bridgerton-level steaminess from it but an enjoyable historical romance.

This book falls into the category of "fine." It was what it was: a silly little regency romance about a schemer and a grump. It had some action, it had some drama. However, I feel like I've read a number of books that have done what it is trying to do, only better.

I think a big part of the problem were the characters. Kitty was a supremely unlikable character. While her goal of saving her sisters and home was admirable, I really found her insufferable. The rest of the characters felt fairly one dimensional.

Also, I think the language was a bit too modern for my taste. I like a bit of extra formality in my historical fiction.

After Kitty’s parents’ passing, it is left up to Kitty to find a way to clear up their debt and keep the family home for her and her four sisters. The only solution she has is to marry a rich man. She sets off to London for the upcoming Season to seek a potential husband.

Lord Radcliffe, after catching wind of his brother’s intention to propose to Kitty, tries to stop it, but then falls victim to helping Kitty procure another suitable candidate. Over the Season, James finds himself falling for Kitty, even knowing her family circumstances. Can love really triumph over necessity and prestige?

The banter and pacing were just enough for this British romance. The supporting characters were mainly stuck up and vile (apart from a select few), but that just lent to the authenticity of the time period and societal standings of these people. The backgrounds of both James and Kitty were well developed and played a role in having the two MCs bond. This is a great read for anyone a fan of Bridgerton.

I was actually thrilled to have have the opportunity to read this highly anticipated novel I was hearing about from all angles.
This book had the perfect balance of humor and romance and I especially loved that it was set in the regency era.

I really enjoyed this novel.
I loved everything about Kitty, it was great to see a strong female MC, who was honest and determined. I loved the parties and the balls, the fancy dresses and food. Lord Radcliffe grew on me. There more I read the more I loved all the characters.



10/10 would absolutely recommend. I am off to read the second book in the series now.

I absolutely loved this book. The banter between characters was gloriously sharp and I just couldn’t get enough. It was a fabulous read.

I’m a very picky romance reader, and this book checked all the boxes for me. It had a witty main character, a dashing love interest, real world problems, and was set in a time of bustling dresses, grand balls, and fierce women doing their best.

This book was a refreshing historical romance. Showing that women are far more capable than most people assume, and that love for one’s family does not have to prevent you from finding love for yourself.

Not what I was expecting. Much slower than I thought it would be. It's not bad, just nothing really stood out and I've no idea who to recommend this too.

I thoroughly enjoyed A Lady's Guide to Fortune Hunting, Sophie Irwin's debut novel was charming and thoroughly engaging. Kitty and James are captivating protagonists, their ongoing banter and unfiltered appraisal of each other were refreshing and very entertaining. I enjoyed following their enemies to lovers arc, as they learned to appreciate and eventually love one another. Their honest, open understanding of each other felt more intimate than the most scintillating sex scene. I look forward to reading Sophie Irwin's future novels, hopefully with some of the characters we have been introduce to in this one!

I am a huge fan of Jane Austen. So to see a nod to her most famous work, ‘Pride and Prejudice’, was a wonderful surprise. There are many elements in common – five sisters, the need to marry rich, a proud titled gentleman who can’t stand the leading lady. Even the name of two of the sisters – Kitty and Jane – were the same, though it struck me as hilarious that the Kitty in this book was the responsible go-getter and Jane was the youngest. The book also begins with a quote from Pride and Prejudice. It was fun to see the Easter eggs from P&P sprinkled in this story.

I forgot to leave a review after reading, so I am coming back now to do so, very late. Unfortunately I don’t remember anything specific about this book, so I can’t give any kind of feedback.

In theory, this book ticked a lot of boxes for me. It's basically Jane Austen meets Bridgerton -- quite literally, as we see the family structure and struggles lifted straight out of Pride and Prejudice, and a pretty direct plot parallel of season 2 of Bridgerton. Just lacking the loveable characters and emotional nuance of Austen, or the passion and emotional investment of Bridgerton.

It's very slow-moving, and so formulaic that when you finally do reach the conclusion of the book there's no sense of payoff as the plot is predictable. If you absolutely love everything Regency era, then it's probably still worth it for you -- for the descriptions of the gowns alone. But it's a pale imitation, and I think does itself a disservice by inviting such direct comparisons.

Such a fun read! Kittie needs to marry well in order to save her family so she sets out to find the perfect rich husband. I felt as if I was in the story. Thank you NetGalley!

I wish I could start this book over just so I could read it again. A delightful regency romp, complete with star-crossed lovers, the difficulties of breaking into society, and all the balls one can dream of.

Catching up with all the reads I had thanks to Netgalley, so here’s one of many.

I am always afraid regency/period books written by contemporary authors won’t be as great as the OG thing, ya know? but I was gladly surprised by Sophie Irwin’s story and characters.

Kitty was quite funny and relatable, she’s got that 20 something voice that, regardless of the time she’s supposed to be in, you may identify with her. She’s impulsive, stubborn, smart, and has great comebacks.

The entire premise felt familiar, in a good way. It has one of my fave tropes ever, enemies to lovers (the banter was great!) and it was just very fun to read.

Brownie points for the writing, Irwin’s style is very good! I truly enjoyed it beginning to end.

I regency romance but this one just wasn’t for me, I could not get into the characters at all, and it felt more young adult than adult, I do think it had a Good premise and I will try this author again
