Hello Book friends!

Today I’m reviewing The Do-Over by Lynn Painter. In this YA romance we follow Emilie Hornby rule follower, type-A personality, and future valedictorian. But then February 14th comes around and it’s the worst Valentine’s Days ever, Emilie gets stuck reliving the same day, over, and over, and over again.

It’s been some time since I’ve read an AMAZING YA novel that sucked me in from start to finish. I literally read this book in one sitting and I cannot stop thinking about Painter’s incredible story telling.

Now, let’s chat about the book itself. There are certain authors who really know their craft. To take a simple idea of reliving a crappy day over and over and turn it into a masterpiece that takes your breath away and consumes every inch of real-estate in your brain.

I hands down love this book.

Just like a good meal that makes you feel full and completely satisfied, Painter captures you in a snapshot of the same day, but makes it feel like so much more. Everything from the characters to the story of reliving the same day, Painter draws her readers in delivering a heartfelt, hilariously sweet story about two young people finding their way to a happily ever after.

If you enjoy the movie Groundhogs Day (reliving the same day over and over), opposites attract, and quotes you’ll highlight for safe keeping, make sure to get this book.

Happy Reading ~ Cece

Anything Lynn Painter writes, I’m going to read. She’s incredible and I absolutely adore her storytelling style. An auto buy author for sure.

I can confidently say that Lynn Painter is one of my favorite YA contemporary romance authors.

Her books are for the swifties, romcom lovers, and playlist enthusiasts.

There's something so special about her characters and the way she makes you fall in love with them.

I loved The Do Over just as much as Better Than The Movies :')

Another win for miss Painter <3

Read this in less than a day. It was a perfect blend of funny, swoon, sweet, and ridiculous.

I really liked Em. Her view on taking fate by the reins and steering it, with an intensity only she can conjure, where she wants to go is admirable (and something I would like to emulate, tbh). She knew exactly what she wanted. She's also a bit of a people-pleaser; always trying to avoid rocking the boat especially when it comes to her divorced parents... and I found it comforting to be able to kind of relate to her. See bits of myself in her. One of these days, I'd like a DONC too and see where it takes me. (I promise this would make sense once you read the book.)

But the real winner of The Do-Over is Nick Stark. It will come as no surprise if you read the book and end up loving him too. Someone you can talk to about books? Who gives piggyback rides? With a sweet tooth? Uhm, yes please! Nick Stark is dreamy. Swoon must be his middle name.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Do-Over. Go grab yourself a copy!

I'm such a sucker for time-loop romances and this one was awesome! It was a fast-paced, breezy read that was a great way to spend my afternoon and the romance was ADORABLE. Emilie, our MC, is definitely the typical Lynn Painter sunshine-y, over-achiever, hopeless romantic lead girl. This book definitely made me feel like I was living vicariously through her and I absolutely loved following along her + Nick's day of doing whatever the hell they felt like. It definitely gave me that rush of teenage spontaneity and freedom.

Nick was the perfect counterpart to Emilie, with his broody charm, and I thought he was a great love interest. Besides the fact I doubt anyone could fall in love with someone through only a day of knowing them, they were a very cute couple and I loved all their interactions.

I also thoroughly enjoyed all the Taylor Swift references. Lynn Painter's books always feel like little word searches for Swifties, it's so fun, and Emily getting a "The Last Great American Dynasty" tattoo was absolutely golden.

5🌟 - I loved it!

This book was so cute 🥹!! I love @lynnpainterbooks so much! Her rom-com’s just hit different!

I love a time-loop/magical moment with some Ferris Bueller/Groundhog Day vibes! The swiftie moments, the magical realism, and all the swoon!

I loved Nick and Emilie, the grumpy/sunshine, and enemies-to-friends-to-lovers!

I need all of her books to be adapted to a movie ASAP.

Okay cuties! I will apparently never get used to how cute and swoony Lynn Painter’s books are. My favorite thing about YA is how BIG the characters’ feelings are, and this book definitely delivers. Ferris Bueller meets Groundhog Day on Valentine’s Day (and it works). Painter is an auto-read author for me now!

The Do-Over was so fun and so cute. It gives me such nostalgia to read sweet YA romances even if I didn’t experience any type of relationship like this in high school. It was both so funny and emotional and I love books that make me laugh and cry. Lynn Painter does banter so well and I eat up her books every time,

Great book! This follows our main character who keeps waking up each day to relive the worst Valentine's Day ever. I have recommended this book to several of my students who enjoy romance books and they've all loved it too. It is fast paced, cute, fun, and also has some depth to it. Both main characters have a lot they are dealing with in their personal lives and so that made the story interesting beyond the main plot point.
Highly recommend this book for any high school library.

MY THOUGHTS

My first Lynn Painter and certainly not my last! What a wonderful book!!!

I’ll start by saying i LOVE time-loop tropes. Can’t get enough of them. So if you don’t like them, skip this book because if it isn’t clear by the title, that’s exactly what you’re going to get. With time-loop tropes, i feel like the MC typically is in the time loop because they’re on a journey of self-discovery and it ties in themes other than love which is refreshing in a romcom! It forces the MC to figure out for herself what’s really important in life vs. what isn’t. The main character in this one was lovable, fun to follow &, to be blunt, not annoying AF for a YA MC🤣 the different parts of her day that she had to continue reliving were fun to continue seeing, as well as all of the new adventures she found herself pursuing by the end of her Groundhog Day escapades. The ending was picture perfect and I couldn’t see it going any other way than the way that it did, which is a wonderful thing about YA novels. I absolutely recommend this one for all ages and I can’t wait to read further into Lynn Painter’s backlist!!

This was an overall really fun read. It's not very often I have the pleasure of enjoying a YA based book, but, this one did it. This was my first Lynn Painter but have heard many good things and now will definitely dive into her other books!

I NEED Nick in an adult smut book please... it feels wrong now to swoon, but it doesn't have to 😂

Getting to see Emilie grow was my favorite part of this story. She was the typical goody goody wanting to please everyone and never take her own feelings into account, but not anymore! She got frustrated doing the time loop, as anyone would, but kept approaching it from different angles and realizing along the way that she is strong.

Super cute YA romance with good humor. Please pick this up!

I loved this book so much! It’s the perfect amount of YA sweet and surprisingly emotional. It was a little cheesey but in the perfect way that teen romances can be. No eye rolling moments here.

I enjoyed the time loop scenario here. The DONC was really a perfect day. Nate and Emilie are a great book couple that I will now ship forever.
Overall this is a top tier YA romance in my opinion.

I said I was done reading time-travel romances, but then Lynn Painter had to go and write one and of course, I had to read it. Filled with Painter's signature banter and wit, this was incredibly well done and I am glad I picked it up.

I LOVED Better Than the Movies, but I just could never get into this one. I think I wasn't as excited about the concept of living the same day over and over... I don't know. I'll still try everything Lynn Painter writes though, and I'm grateful that she is writing good, clean stories for young adults! :)

Lynn Painter has become one of my favorite authors! Her books are so bingeable! Emilie has just experiences the worst valentines day.... well day ever and she just wants to move on. However, the universe has other plans and she is forced to relive that day over and over again until she figures out why! We get this fun story of trying to figure out if Emilie should try to fix everything thats gone wrong- or if she should just do everything shes ever wanted to do without consequences! This YA romance has something for everyone, and will truly be a book you wont be able to put down.

Having experienced a twice incinerated dumpster fire of a Valentine’s Day, Emilie Hornby finds herself stuck in a time loop. In addition to having to watch her boyfriend cheat on her over and over again, she also keeps running into her grumpy lab partner Nick Stark…how many times will she have to watch her life go up in flames before the universe stops doling out the do-overs?

This book was a DELIGHT from start to finish and I can’t see it not being made into a movie one day.

Read if you enjoy
- YA fiction
- Time loops
- Coffee and (unicorn) cake
- Grumpy love interest
- Soul searching and bonding
- Epic first love
- Taylor Swift references

Em wakes up on Valentine’s Day excited to celebrate with her boyfriend Josh. Her day goes horribly in so many ways that she’s relieved to have it end but she wakes up the next morning and it’s Valentine’s Day all over again. This happens several times and she finally decides to not care about anything and has a great day doing whatever she feels like. She pulls her chemistry lab partner along for the day and they have such a great time that she doesn’t want this Valentine’s Day to end. When she wakes up the next morning expecting to have to relive another Valentine’s Day, she has a lot of repercussions to deal with! 5 stars for a thoroughly entertaining story!

This was such a fun story! I loved that the repeating days didn’t get boring, and it was such a fun plot to have that happen on Valentine’s Day! I absolutely devoured this one. It gave me all the warm fuzzies! Such a cute YA romance, perfect for February!

Did I finish this in one night? I sure did, and I loved every minute of it! Another amazing book by Lynn. Sometimes Groundhog Day books and movies can get old and repetitive, but The Do-Over was done perfectly. I loved Nick, and I’m so glad we kept getting to know him. As always I love all the Taylor Swiftness and Omaha landmarks scattered throughout Lynn’s books.

Thank you Simon & Schuster for my gifted arc in exchange for a honest review.
