I haven't read any of the other books in this series but it didn't prove to be an issue. Each book features a new couple.

I do enjoy the nanny/boss trope and I did appreciate the nod to Jane Eyre and the Gothic Romance element. This book has serious potential and I did enjoy reading it. I mean, who can resist a broody handsome hero. Particularly a single father with issues. It's a recipe for success.

I did feel at times Ava was naive and made some poor choices. This did annoy me a little which is reflected in my rating. It was an okay read that I do recommend even if it's just to get a taste of Edward.

I received an arc of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

There is so much about this book that I wanted to love! In fact, I really enjoyed the first half of the book. The part where they were sailing was my favorite! However, the second half was not doing anything for me. This book is pretty short, so it wasn't a long read at all. Because of the length, I felt like there was room for more development of the characters and the plot. There's just so much more that could have been included in this story. One thing I really didn't care for and could have done without was the dreams that Ava was having. I absolutely love some nanny romances that I have read, so I had high hopes for this one, but it just wasn't quite making the mark. This is book five in a series of standalone romances, all by different authors. Also, this book is said to have been influenced by Jane Eyre and Rebecca, though I've never read either so I can't speak to how those play into this story.

Ava wants an escape from living with her family and its drama so accepts a nanny position in Sweden. When she arrives, there's been some miscommunication with regard to her start date and she's just got the broody father to contend with for two weeks until her charge Sofia returns.

This was certainly an interesting premise with a number of nods to Jane Eyre and other Gothic romances. I don't think the intentions were quite pulled off in the end but it's not a bad story. Ava seems to have a habit of falling for the fathers of the kids she nannies. This is the third time as a nanny and she's fallen again. Edward is quite broody and has his demons to deal with but I'm not sure if they are quite so dramatic as has been made out here.

There's a fair bit of focus on the actual manor where the story takes place which seems rather typical of a gothic romance. I was rather pleased with the way the house was handled at the end and it made a fair bit of sense to me.

At the heart of the story is the romance and I must admit that it was a bit lackluster to me. due to some lack of chemistry between to couple. Most of what is there just seems forced. I did enjoy the relationship between Sofia and Ava though and felt that was the most realistic of the relationships.

Overall this was an okay read and I will give this 2.5 stars. I would like to thank Netgalley for the advanced reader copy. I have provided this review voluntarily.

I loved this book. It was a lovely romance novel, full of complex characters, interesting plot and an exciting Scandinavian location. It was lovely to travel to Sweden, Stockholm and the many little islands nearby. It has been many years since I have been in this beautiful country but I love reading books about it, and reading novels by Scandinavian authors.
I loved learning more about the main characters and the book held my attention from page one right to the end. It was a delightful and quite a quick read.
I gave the book 4 stars as I liked it. The characters developed throughout the story and I liked getting to know them. It was the first book I read by the author but I hope to read more in the future as I really enjoyed reading this one.

I really enjoyed this book, but felt like the title was a poor choice for it. I honestly was hesitant to read it because the title made it sound trite and uninteresting. But I found it very engaging and a captivating read! I would highly recommend a title change to truly capture the essence of the book, as I don't think the title was really fitting either. The characters are great with deep layers, the plotline full of interest and intrigue. 4 stars only because of the title!

The Overseas Nanny Mistake is a contemporary Gothic romance with hints of Jane Eyre and Rebecca, set in a mysterious house on the misty shores of the Baltic Sea. The story itself was also even more interesting than I had anticipated. I went into it expecting a romance story and got so much more.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. I found out to be a quick, easy read. I liked the pacing of the book as well as the overall plot. I would have liked the characters to be a bit more fleshed out but it didn't detract much from my overall enjoyment.

"It felt as if we had both come to each other lost, both hiding away from the world in our own ways. He was lost in some hidden sorrow from his past, and I was drifting through my life, lost in my fantasies."

With hints of Jane Eyre and Rebecca, The Overseas Nanny Mistake had the potential to be a fascinating modern contemporary Gothic romance. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me as well as I had hoped. I found it difficult to connect with the characters, not feeling as invested in their story as I would have liked.

Looking for an escape from her family in Brooklyn, Ava took a position as a nanny for Edward's six-year-old daughter Sofia at his old manor house in Sweden. The setting perfectly encompassed Gothic elements with a dark, forbidding forest, a possibly haunted house and ominous clouds and storms. Dark and brooding, Edward had his own storm brewing beneath the surface covered with a guarded, controlled exterior. But behind his distant and stoic demeanor, there was vulnerability and pain.

Ava always looked to please others, finding herself attracted to men of authority. Instantly drawn to Edward, Ava tried to understand him, peeling back his protective layers to solve the missing pieces of the mysterious puzzle that defined him.

"His eyes were stormy, both forbidding me to enter and luring me in."

When Ava and Edward finally surrendered to the off-limits pull between them, the steam was intense, wrapped in powerful emotions. However, the dichotomy between their desire and the need to hold back didn't transition effortlessly to make it truly believable.

I loved watching Edward come undone as he struggled with sadness and happiness, darkness and lightness existing so close together. I also liked seeing Ava learn to value herself and know she was good enough just as she was. With Edward living in his past and Ava living in her fantasies, both looking for something different, I enjoyed watching them realize they deserved happiness as they made each other feel alive again with the freedom to make choices in living their own best lives. But would those paths ultimately lead them together or apart?

"What’s waiting for me at the other end of it?"

I LOVE SINGLE PARENT/NANNY ROMANCES SO MUCH. my god, I cant believe that I nearly didn't find this. I love these types of books so much, ever since I read another book like it called Broken French which I fell deeply and indescribably in love with. Nanny romances are the tip tier of romance tropes.

This book had this perfect blend of happiness and heartbreak all tied together with a happily ever after. I WOULD READ THIS. 1000. MORE. TIMES.
Read it. Please. For your sake and for mine. You will love it.
5/5 stars, I no longer have a soul, it was left in the pages of this book.
