I loved loved loved this book. As an aunt to two animal lovers between 4 and 6, this book will be number one on my must get list. The pictures are perfect for the story and it's really a fabulous fun fast read.

This sweet picture book is about a little boy who really wants a pet dog. When a stray cat finds its way to his door and the family eventually adopts the cat, the boy starts to realize that maybe a cat named Doggie might actually be the perfect pet! Each page has about 1 sentence of text in a relatively small font, but the text is fairly easy to decode. I really enjoyed this picture book and love that it is short, simple and has nice pictures. I also love that it sends the message about the importance of rescuing stray animals and the love that they can offer their owners, as well as the wonderful experience loving a rescue pet can have on children and their families. I would highly recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in the 4-7 age range. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!

“I wanted a dog. But I got a cat. She's my best friend.”

I loved this story! I am a dog lover too, but have a couple cats in my backyard who have nowhere to go so they practically stay at my home, so this story kinda resonated with me. The illustrations were cute and I loved how the boy eventually learnt to love the cat though it wasn't a dog.

Thank you NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for presenting me with an ARC of this book in exchange of a honest review.

This was a nice sweet book that teaches us to accept the situations that arise to us. The little boy wanted a dog but a stray cat shows up. It takes him awhile to adjust and learn to love the cat. When he does he calls him Doggie and sees how wonderful it is to have a cat best friend.
My 5 year old loved this book and it made him happy. He said hes happy that he likes the cat now but he doesnt want one.

An adorable story for animal lovers but also a great story about expectations and pre-judgement.
The little boy has always wanted a dog, but one day a cat appears on their doorstep. He doesn't want a cat! Cats are boring. (But are they really, or does he just need to give them a chance?)
Soon, he realizes that cats can be snuggly and fun too in their own way, and he falls in love with his cat, "Doggie".
My kids love books about animals, especially cats and dogs. The illustrations are fun and draw you in while the text is a good length for younger readers.

A simple sweet story about a boy who wants a dog, but ends up with a stray cat. This would be a great book to use during a needs and wants lesson for young children, and the fact that the little boy named the cat "Doggie" made my little boy giggle and giggle. I also loved the ways the little boy tried to show the Doggie could be like a dog (even if they didn't end up working for him!).

This is a very cute book that really resonated with my five year old daughter who has a cat that is her very best friend.

I thought it was very sweet and the right length to keep my daughters attention all the way thought.

Thank you Netgalley for the read now opportunity

Doggie is a sweet story of a little boy who wants a pet dog but instead finds himself with a lost wet cat. Will this cat be able to replace the pet dog that he desperately wants? Just read and see!

This story has a sweet message of accepting someone for who they are. The little boy in our story tries to see if he can pretend his new cat is a dog, even going as far as naming her "Doggie". But instead, he finds that Doggie is better as a cat and becomes his new best friend! This book would be a great read-aloud for young children to learn about accepting the unexpected. I'd love to get a physical copy for my young students to read in the classroom, too!

Thank you NetGalley and Clavis Publishing for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

I love, love, love this story! This little boy wants a dog very badly. Then a kitten shows up and they keep her. This is the story of how he learns to love having a cat instead of a dog. So very cute!
