'The World of Yaxin: Day of the Unicorn' with story and art by Manuel Arenas is a kind of visual poem about the birth of a unicorn.

In a series of lush illustrations, we follow a unicorn from the dawn of unicorns through to the birth of a new unicorn. A tiny faun and a fairy accompany the unicorn through blowing petals, flocks of birds and blowing leaves.

The verse that weaves through the book brings a good weight to the art and is really nice, but the illustrations are really why I liked this book.

A poetic story about a unicorn family with beautiful illustrations.
Each page is filled with magic.

A book worth to be collected and to put on display not only for children but also for adults and new mothers as a gift.
I love it!

A young faun celebrates the life of a newly born unicorn, and we see them as the seasons change and the unicorn grows.

Beautiful, ethereal and dream-like illustrations are accompanied by a short tale told in poetic language. It's gorgeous.

Thank you to Netgalley and to Magnetic Press for this ARC in exchange for my review.

This is an interesting book. The graphics in this book are amazing. They are each masterful works a fantasy art with a fawn (mythical creature) and a unicorn. There are the thoughts on the importance of unicorns and how it flows with life. It’s more of a journey of philosophy in the land of unicorns then it is a story. And while I’ve read it once I wouldn’t read it again. But I would hang every single piece of art on my wall permanently

Lovely story about a unicorn family with beautiful artwork. Be warned that some readers might find the birth scene artwork a bit much.

This is a really beautiful book to look at. I did not find much substance to it though.

It follows the life of a fawn and Unicorn. It feels like a visual poem that is intended to illicit strong emotions.

For me it missed the mark. It's worth checking out for the art alone, maybe something was missed in the translation but the actual text and dialogue did not strike a chord with me.

Fahed

I LOVE all things unicorns, so when this book came across my computer screen, I decided I had to read it. The cover is gorgeous - so if you love unicorns, the illustrations alone are 100% worth reading it.

This is a story of fauns and unicorns and their unique bonds and connections. I loved the main faun's dedication to his unicorn friends. This is a poetic story of birth, seasons and renewal.

What I loved:
The typeface. The lettering is unique and poetic in its styling.
The poetic nature of the narrative: while more free verse in style, the story still had a great poetic cadence.
The beautiful illustrations of the fauns and unicorns.
This was a very short and magical illustrated story.

(the original text was written in French, but I feel like the translation still carried over the poetic nature of the original language.)

Educator warning: there is a rather realistic birth scene of a baby unicorn. It's tastefully rendered, but may be a little much for littles.

This is an amazingly beautiful graphic novel. The pictures in this book are stunning. Each is like a piece of art work. I would go as far as saying a masterpiece. This book is worth every penny, just in the beauty of the pictures. The book short but the story is wonderful. This amazing fantasy book is aimed at 10 + audience but to be honest I feel they probably won't appreciate the stunning pictures whereas adults will. This is a book that you will go back to time and time again. I actually put this book in the same league as the boy , the mole, the fox, and the horse by Charlie Mackesy . This book just made me smile and feel so happy. The story follows the birth of a unicorn. The words read like poetry with depth and meaning. I just adored the use of colour. This book just has to become a bestseller.

Only the highest of praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating this magical masterpiece. That I am positive you will love just as much as I did. I will definitely be looking out for more titles by this exceptionally talented author.

Horses are notoriously hard to draw, but Arenas shows his unending talent in every pose of the unicorn. There is not a single picture in this short graphic novel that isn't anatomically accurate. The unicorns have a weightiness to them, an earthiness, not like the more airy, thin creatures you would see in something like "The Last Unicorn." These are purely equine, with just a little extra on top.

I'm not so sure how libraries will categorize this book, but it's vocabulary and poetic text doesn't fit well with children's picture books. This book is meant for someone who needs a moment of calm introspection.

There's a small plot here, which I won't spoil. It's more on the nature of the World of Yaxin, rather then any grand developments.

It was an interesting little thing. I liked it.

This book features beautiful illustrations of unicorns and their faun companion. Each page contains beautiful poetic lines that serve to tell a story, as well as describe the beauty of unicorns. The little faun helps the mother unicorn welcome new a baby who becomes a brother to him. This book is really sweet and the artwork is brilliant. It is well worth the read.

The art of this novel is amazing, beautiful, whimsical, and fills the heart with magic. I would love to have some of the pages framed so I could always revisit this fantastical dream world where unicorns dwell. For me the art was drew to this book, and kept me reading it. I think this is perfect for those who value the art over the story. I think the story was cute, but it seemed almost more like a whimsical poem then a story. I points I felt a bit confused. I wanted more information and clarity. I know people who would love this purely for the art, and some who would find the story lacking.

ARC Copy...I found the illustrations to be very beautiful and dream like. The fairy-tale loving kiddies and young at heart will love that. The narrative felt gentle, dream like and almost poetic verse in nature.

The beauty of this book lies in the magical illustrations within. The art is delicate but profound, and describes the story more through images than in the words that accompany the drawings. I do think some of the magic of the words, which are more "feelings" rather than a coherent story, were lost in translation from French to English, but the general idea is still there. The words are much more poetic and whimsical than they are concrete, and I feel like it does evoke the emotions of wonder and innocence. I think that this book would be a great read for a younger child who is preparing for a sibling to enter the world as it paints a picture of the excitement and wonder at what is to come. There is a birth scene, but nothing that is graphic and I still feel that this is an acceptable book for younger school aged children rather than the Young Adult category it is currently listed in.

A whimsical story of a faun and the unicorns they live with. I loved the art style which I feel helped set the stage for the story and played into the feelings the book evoked. I liked that the story both had the impression that the characters would last forever, but also that it was also about growing up and making changes.

I saw another person mention that they thought this belonged more to juvenile/middle grade than YA and I agree with that.

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me this eARC to review.

The art in this is so beautiful. I want prints of the art to be put over my wall. The book explores the magic of unicorns as well as new life. This is a translated work and while I liked the story/dialogue (there isn't much) so I feel like we English readers didn't get the full effect of the original prose, however, it was still beautiful.

There is a bit of art showing birth but it is not graphic.

This is a very beautiful book, it is however brought in the wrong category. This is not YA but feels more like juvenile fiction. For more younger readers than teens. I however found the poetry and the pictures dream like. It felt like being in a wonderland. This may be for all readers, but it feels like it was categorized wrong though. However it is a beautiful book.

A beautifully illustrated book centered around unicorns and the magic of nature.

The illustrations are out of this world. The "story" or poetry brought it down however. Not sure if it was translated or what the exact purpose was. I feel the text doesn't do the book justice.

Such a beautiful book with amazing and magical illustrations about the beauty of this mythical creature that is the Unicorn. I loved the artwork so much but the story was told in such a poetic way that was originally written in French but wasn't well translated into English, in my opinion. Anyway, we can understand easily the story without the text.

Such a beautiful art! For me the illustrations in this book is out of chart. How the illustrator painting is masterful and infused it with real magical feels. I can feel how surrounding forrest alive in picture. I love all characters especially the narrator, little fraun. Storyline in this book deliver in poems form and I kinda struggles to grasp the meaning except praises for natural and the process of new life a baby unicorn.

Thank you Netgalley and Magnetic Press for provided another awesome copy.
