I love this audio book. Its fun, quick, and romantic. The slow burn is nice but a little too slow for my liking. I like both main characters and I think they have good chemistry. This book is a lot like The Charm Offensive but with lesbians!

This book these characters have my heart.
This book is abour so much more then what you think it wouls be. The representation of queer, non binary, plus size and above all else love. This book is a reminder to live and LOVE outloud. New favorite book.

i didn’t enjoy this book much. the reality show was a poor framing device that only served to make me feel dread from the beginning. it made sure that we knew it wouldn’t end without hurt. i didn’t love any of the characters and the humour was a millennial’s wet dream.

This book is an absolute delight. I read the entire thing with a stupid grin on my face and almost immediately fell in love with both of our MCs. This book is both fun and funny while also having a side dose of a little bit of seriousness. It is the perfect light and fluffy rom-com that y'all need in your life.

The entire premise of the book kind of cracked me up because as an arospec asexual person my brain doesn't always comprehend the trope of love at first sight or committing to someone that you barely know and I consider it a success that I fully believed in this romance and their love story even though it all happens in 6 weeks.

So both of the MC's, Kris and D'Vaughn are contestants on this show called Instant I do and basically these contestants are randomly paired and they have to convince their families that they are engaged and have to plan a wedding in 6 weeks. If they make it to the end of the 6 weeks they either say I do or they each win $100,000. Kris goes on to the show claiming that she's looking for the love of her life. She walks in there fully intending to find a wife and is the hopeful romantic of the duo. D'Vaughn goes on to the show so that she has an opportunity to come out to her conservative religious family.

This one is a whirlwind. A lot of things happen and D'Vaughn's coming out scene is super super emotional. Make sure that you maybe have a tissue or two nearby. The representation in this book is also the stuff of dreams. Kris is an Afro-Latina stud lesbian and D'Vaughn is a fat Black lesbian. There are a ton of secondary queer characters including a fat Black trans woman, non binary character, Black gay men, I'm pretty sure that there's also a pansexual secondary character in addition to lesbian and gay characters. Kris is also bilingual and there's a decent handful of Spanish in the book.

So I loved both Kris and D'Vaughn, but Kris's family absolutely took the cake for me. They are the definition of joy and that type of family connection is so unheard of to me that I love reading about it. They're all so invested in each other's lives and supportive of everything.

Y'all I cannot recommend this book enough. It comes out later this month and I am super grateful that I was able to read an advanced copy of this through NetGalley (and that I actually read it before it's pub date). I can easily see myself rereading this book especially if it comes out on audio. It will 100% be a comfort read for me. Also there's a fucking rainbow cake on the cover, of course I love this book.

I'm always wanting more queer faking dating romances and D'Vaughn and Kris Plan A Wedding is one of these books in the best way! After being paired together on a reality TV show, D'Vaughn and Kris have six weeks to convince their families they're getting married and plan a wedding. I was in love with Kris and her family as well as the character development of D'Vaughn and her mom. I'm giving this a solid 4/5 stars! There was not quite enough conflict for a 5/5.

I received an advanced readers copy of the audiobook from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

This was a listen/read that I didn’t know I needed. It did not disappoint. I liked the fake dating trope and the characters. The way that they communicated their needs, their vulnerable moments, and the support of their family. It was a realistic story that was lighthearted. I think the narrator did a great job bringing the characters to life. She was really entertaining. I enjoyed it!

This was a really fun and steamy fake dating/reality tv butch/femme romance full of heart! I loved D'Vaughn and how instantly she was attracted to Kris, a self-assured and out social media influencer. D'Vaughn, in contrast is a closeted Black fat femme who's using the show as a way to come out to her family. The chemistry between Kris and D'Vaughn was sweet and spicy and I loved how supportive they were with one another's families. Perfect for fans of The charm offensive and great on audio. Much thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance listening copy!!

Queer fake dating? Sign me up. Reality TV? Also sign me up! This was a super fun book. I listened to it in one sitting. Definitely would recommend, it was a good time.

I love a cute, low drama romance! D'Vaughn hopes being on the newest season of Instant I Do will help her finally come out to her religious family, while Kris is looking to find the love of her life. All they have to do is convince their families they're marrying a complete strange in six weeks. If they make it down the aisle without anyone guessing this is all for TV, they get to choose between a $100,000 cash prize or getting the all-expense paid wedding of their dreams. Now, Kris just has to convince D'Vaughn that their is more between them than just reality TV magic.

This was a super cute, light read without much drama, which was exactly what I was looking for. While there was some miscommunication, nothing was dragged out just for added drama and conflict. If you're looking for a low / no drama romance novel, this is definitely a great pick!

D’Vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding is a slow burn, steamy, fake dating to lovers sapphic romance.

D’Vaughn Miller and Kris Zavala both find themselves on a dating reality show where they could each win $100,000 as long as they plan a fake wedding in six weeks with their families on board. No pressure.

I really enjoyed the chemistry between D’Vaughn and Kris because both women really brought out something in each other, and the loaded banter between the two of them was flirtatious and even super steamy at times.

I don’t normally enjoy coming out stories because they can be filled with so much trauma, but I really enjoyed how Kris navigated D’Vaughn not initially being out and stepping up in the supportive department when the time came.

There’s also a really fantastic conversation that takes place between Kris and D’Vaughn’s mother in regards to Afro-Latinx folks being a part of the Black diaspora that needs to happen more often.

Oh, and lastly, the steamy scenes in this were *chef’s kiss*.

Had this on my list for while so I was pumped to see it available in audiobook format on Netgalley. It was precious, the queer and afro-latino representation, the fake relationship/reality TV show elements, the very different but equally entertaining families, it was just perfection. If you have never read anything by Chencia Highins, I also highly recommend her werewolf series, one of the best out there. Happy Pride month everyone!

No third act conflict!! That was so refreshing, especially since it would have been so easy to do based on the set up of this story. I loved the reality show aspect. It was so out there and fun. It was the perfect way to create a fake dating scenario! I also thought D'Vaughn and Kris had incredible chemistry and I appreciated that they had important conversations. The families were interesting to read about as well. The perfect lesbian romance, imo. So supportive, steamy, and authentic.

d'vaughn and kris plan a wedding' is a quick and super fun black lesbian romance! i adored the representation and how entertaining their relationship was. the characters were amazing and i loved reading about the different family dynamics kris and d'vaughn had.

the romance progressed quickly which I hadn't loved but made sense considering the whole premise. despite that, i was very happy to just see an unapologetic lesbian romance bloom. reading this very fluffy book where the main characters are just very in love was so much great.

5 stars

The reality dating show has been fodder for romance books for years, but never before have I seen a book that parodies shows like "90-Day Fiance" and "Married at First Sight". It's a fantastic vehicle for this sapphic love story that manages to be sweet, sexy, and enthralling in equal measure.

Honestly, this book had everything: fantastic banter, wonderful characters, important conversations about the intersection of religion and queer identity, and a completely swoonworthy romance. I started listening to this in the early morning and found myself quickly making excuses to avoid my responsibilities so that I could keep listening. I absolutely adored this book and it's the perfect romance read not only for Pride month, but for any month!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for an ARC of this audiobook in exchange for a fair and honest review!

This book has been on my priority TBR for months, and I'm so glad it was made into an audiobook as those are a lot more accessible for me! Overall I definitely enjoyed the story, though I found the narration & dialogue to be a bit stilted at times. By that, I mean there were moments where the word choice was very strange, and gave the impression that the author was trying to sprinkle less common/bigger words throughout the prose in a way that read as very stiff. Despite this, I still really enjoyed the story, and thought the romance was to die for! Will definitely be reviewing on my page.
