The story follows a timeline of the past as well as present. A string of murders from the past looks eerily similar to the ones at present and all of the characters are connected. I won't say that I couldn't see the ending coming, because I did, but it wasn't in a way that made it boring. Constance is engaging and fun to read. Eve is no nonsense and a total femme fatal. She is definitely my favorite character of this story. I was a little confused by the relationship between James and Constance as it felt incomplete. I would have loved more for Jet's storyline as well. I requested this story based on the description. I wanted a story that had suspense and scare and it delivered. I read it in 2 days because I didn't want to put it down. I was not bored at any moment and that's what I really like in a book. I will be recommending this story to my friends.

The story was very good in the beginning. I was intrigued in the beginning with the person questioning where she found herself to be. The story got better with the cryptic actions of Eve. The drama between Eve and her daughters is intense. The mystery to what Eve is searching definitely moves the book along.

1997. A captive woman is tied to a stinking mattress in a dark cellar. She is waiting. She knows he will come to her; he comes every day, to violate her, torture her, to remind her she is only alive for his pleasure. She knows it will happen; she expects it now. So she bides her time, waiting for an opportunity to escape.
Present day. Eve Foster has died. A sadistic woman: she has changed since her daughter disappeared all those years ago. She had gone to New Mexico to find her, and failing that, she adopted two young twins from Greece. Lisa, the ‘good daughter’ grows up to be her mother’s favorite and is showered by money and advantage. Connie, the ‘bad daughter,’ is outcasted, psychologically mutilated, and physically shunned by her mother. But now Eve is dead, except her iron control is never ending as it still reaches from the grave.
As Lisa inherits the wealth of their mother’s estate; Connie is banished to a little red house in New Mexico, the center of a mystery that started when Kelsey, Eve’s true daughter, disappeared all those years ago. A serial killer who was never caught, and a town unwilling to release its secrets, especially to an outsider. Can Connie solve the mystery before she is added to the killer’s tally?
Written in two timelines, this dark mystery weaves the story of a missing girl, an evil mother, and Connie’s attempt to find the truth. With the help of a young caretaker, Connie takes on the mystery herself, endangering not only her own life, but others as well.
I really liked this story. It kept me guessing until the end, gasping “oh my gosh!” when I realized who did what. I highly recommend to anyone who likes engrossing psychological thrillers and dark mysteries.
Thank you to NetGalley, Crooked Lane Books, and especially Liv Andersson for allowing me early access to this book!

Overall, I enjoyed Little Red House! I haven’t been enjoying many of the thrillers I’ve read recently, but I’m happy to say it wasn’t the case here. From the beginning, the book hooks you and makes you wonder what’s happening. The plot takes place across two timelines, one in 1997 with Eve and one twenty years later with Connie. I thought the 1997 storyline was more enjoyable initially, but I liked the other timeline better in the book’s latter half.

I didn’t think any of the characters were particularly likable, but I don’t think most were supposed to be. The most likable one was Connie, but I also got frustrated with her decisions. That was my general biggest issue with this book – several characters made decisions that seemed unreasonable. It felt like the characters’ decisions were holding up the plot – and if they had more common sense, the plot would have fallen apart.

However, what Andersson does very well are setting and tone! The town Little Red House is set in has all the elements of a creepy small town: everyone knows everyone, everyone hates outsiders, mysterious murders, and townspeople that have secrets. Andersson creates an atmosphere where you can tell something is wrong. I recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good, spooky thriller!

Thanks to NetGalley, Crooked Lane, and Liv Andersson for this ARC in exchange for an honest review! Social media reviews will be posted a week before the release date.

The basic plot may well have been done before - secrets in a small desert town in New Mexico, but the writing and vivid descriptions of places and people raise the book to an immensely readable level.

The two time lines, 1997 and 20 years on starts with Eve Foster's will when she leaves one if her adopted twin daughters Lisa most of the Vermont estate whilst the other daughter Connie, inherits 5000 US dollars and a derelict house in New Mexico, painted mainly red.

Connie realises Eve has given her some sort of 'mission' but has to deal with a caretaker on site, Jet, improving the living conditions and finding a job. Local murders give Connie the chance to become some sort of detective and maybe these deaths are connected to her house?

Plenty of interesting characters in town, and the author gives us lots of twists to a very complicated but satisfying ending. The power of the writing can only lead to a 5 star rating.

Thanks to Net Galley and Crooked Lane Books for the chance to read and review it.

This was a fantastic serial killer thriller with several twists that I did not see coming! It also included a complex & disturbing family dynamic. I highly recommend adding this to your TBR list!

This book is very intriguing. It had me turning the pages and wondering what was going to happen next. It's a thriller/mystery for sure. Every time I thought I had it figured out something would happen to prove me wrong. That the kind of book that I love. Many twists and turns. Many surprises to keep you wondering and guessing. This book is about very sick, sadistic person/persons.

Young women are being killed. Many left out in the elements. Raped and dismembered. Severely hurt. Some identified. Some not. One mother is on a quest to find her daughter before something happens to her. If it hasn't already. Back in 1997 Eve goes to New Mexico looking for her daughter Kelsey. Kelsey had run away from home and was followed to New Mexico where she was last seen. Alive anyway. Eve will not stop until she finds her daughter. No matter the cost.

In the present there are two young ladies, Connie and Lisa, who Eve had adopted after losing her daughter. She's a very evil woman to Connie. Some of the things she does seem horrendous. Why would anyone adopt a child or children just to terrorize them? Eve sends Connie to live on the streets. She gives her just a tiny amount of money and a few clothes. Connie has to figure out how to survive. She does it to protect her twin sister Lisa. To keep Eve from hurting Lisa.

Connie ultimately ends up in New Mexico where her mother had left her a worn down house. A caretaker. And five thousand dollars a year to live on. After Eve died that is what she left Connie. She left all of her money and homes to Lisa. Lisa was very wealthy and could not help Connie in any way or she would lose it all. What Connie uncovers in Nihla, New Mexico will curl your toes. Make you cringe. Make you wonder what kind of people truly make up this world. What Connie does is survive. She fixes up the Little Red House and uncovers a lot. Along with the caretaker Jet she finds out a lot.

This book is full of so many twists and turns. It keeps you on your toes. You won't see it coming until it finally hits and then you will expel the breath you was holding. Parts will make you sad. Bring out some tears. Parts will make you angry. Wonder why or how can a person do these things. How can a mother do this to her child. And just exactly who is Jet. Who can Connie trust. Can she trust anyone really???

Thank you #NetGalley, #LivAndersson, #CrookedLaneBooks for this ARC. This is my own true thoughts about this book.

5 huge stars and a very high recommendation. It releases December 6th. Be sure and grab this one. It's edge of your seat good.

In 1997, Kelsey (Eve Foster’s daughter) runs away to New Mexico. Kelsey disappears and Eve is sure that she was the victim of a serial killer in New Mexico. Kelsey’s body was never found. When Eve dies her adopted twins are the inheritors. The majority of the wealthy estate is given to the good daughter, Lisa. Connie is given a stipend of $5,000 and a property in New Mexico. Lisa can’t help Connie or they will both lose what they inherited. Connie is sure that it was of her mother’s vengeful games. When Connie arrives to her “new home,” she finds a run down red house with a caretaker living on the property in a shack. Connie finds out that there is a serial killer on the loose. He has killed several women in the area — murders that no one won’t talk about. Why? Before Connie can get to the truth, her deceased mother callous mind games come back from the game. It makes the danger all too real for her. With a serial killer on the loose and deadly secrets coming to the surface, Connie is in a race to save herself and her sister. Will she be successful?

The author takes the reader down dark twisty roads. Everything I like in a novel was included. What I enjoyed was the intense, dark characters, lies, secrets, and danger with a surprising twist. It’s a thriller that I will not forget!

The book starts off strong. It hooked me from the beginning. The plot was twisty and dark and kept me engaged like 85-90% of the time which IMO is pretty darn good. There are so many secrets in this book. I had to go back and re-read a few times just to make sure I had all the information correct. I think it was due to the dual time line. I really enjoy a dual time line though. If you skim when you read you'll probably get confused so don't skim this book.

I was drawn in by the vast differences in the physical appearance of the twins Lisa and Connie. I was also curious why Eve treated them both so differently. I also needed to understand Jet's place within the play and his relevance to the characters. Fortunately, I got my answers to those questions by the end of the book.

I didn't predict the ending although if you can easily predict endings you'll probably guess part of this ending. I think it's still worth the read if you're one of those people. This book is perfect for spooky season!

My only suggestion would be to clarify what happens at the end with Eve. How long did Kelsey torture her etc. I feel like that would add more detail and a bit more closure to the story.

I'll post the review a bit closer to the pub Date.

4.25 stars

In 1997, Eve’s daughter Kelsey has disappeared. Eve tracks her to a small town in New Mexico where the trail ends, but Eve is sure Kelsey is there somewhere. But the townspeople not only don’t help, they seem to be covering up something. Twenty-some years later, Eve has died, and her adopted twin daughters Lisa and Connie are left with very different inheritances. Lisa, the “good” daughter, is left with pretty much everything of value. Connie was left a small house in a town she’s never heard of in New Mexico… a town where strangers aren’t welcome, and the house leaves something (or a lot of somethings) to be desired. There are a lot of rules to this inheritance for both Lisa and Connie. Connie was never treated well by Eve.

This was really good. It pulled me in quickly and kept me wanting to read to find out what was going on. I’ve read a lot of mystery-thrillers the past couple of years and sometimes they have blended into one another. I think this one will stand out in my memory. Have to say that Eve sure was a hateful character – both in 1997 and in Connie’s memories as she looks back on how Eve treated her. I should add that the book does go back and forth in time – in 1997 from Eve’s perspective, and in the present day from Connie’s.

I really enjoyed this book. The characters felt realistic and I enjoyed reading from the two points of view.

Unfortunately this book was not for me, it was a bit slower than I would like and it just didn't hold my attention. I am sure other people will love it!

Dark, twisty and very intriguing! Little Red House takes you on a mysterious ride through the past and present, all leading up to one interesting ending. The storyline did drag at times, but I would recommend this book to others. Thanks Netgalley for this ARC!

This was an absolute thrill to read! It's Little Red House by Liv Andersson which I received from Crooked Lan Books via Netgalley and it will be out on the 6th of December.

We follow two timelines, one in 1997 and one some twenty years later. Eve Foster is the main character in the story taking place in 1997 and she travels to New Mexico to look for her missing daughter, Kelsey. When Eve dies twenty years later, one if her adopted twin daughters inherits it all. The other daughter, Connie, inherits a derelict house in New Mexico, a house with horrible secrets. Even from the grave, Eve torments the 'bad' daughter with sadistic games. Bit by bit, Connie finds out the awful truth.

I really liked this book a lot! Great characters that are well-worked out and a storyline that had me guessing throughout most of the book. Some twist I didn't see coming and a great ending. Definitely a recommendation!

5/5⭐

A good, solid, suspenseful novel with psychological twists...

After years of searching for her oldest missing daughter, Eve passes away in an accident leaving her estate to her twin daughters Lisa and Connie. In Vermont, Lisa received the bulk of the estate, while Connie inherits a small, old in New Mexico. Upon arriving at her property, Connie hears that several women in the area have been brutally murdered. However, nobody in the community will talk about it. (It almost had a gothic feel to me when she was in town).

To makes things ever weirder the run down property that Connie inherits comes with a hot, unfriendly caretaker with some strange rules.

I really enjoyed this book. I kept the pages turning to see what happened next. The story went back and forth in time, which I equally love and hate.

There were so many mysteries wrapped up on this one book... And that ending...

A solid 4 stars..

Thank you to the author, the publisher and to #netgalley for the ARC which did not impact my review.

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc!

This was beyond intense for me! A cruel and harmful mother, Eve, leaves her estate to her daughters. Connie receives property in New Mexico, which have potential to be a lucky break... or not. She has a troubled life to put it mildly which doesn't help. When she learns more about her new home it involves the details of murdered women. The question turns into what kind of twisted messed up game did her mother leave her in? And, how will she survive?

I didn't completely love this. I didn't love the characters or the writing style so much. It All did, however, leave me very unsettled so I suppose that makes this a good horror. At the same time, the plot and the ending kind of didn't hit right with me but to each their own.

Little Red House by Liv Andersson is a suspenseful psychological thriller, due for release on 6th December 2022. I reviewed the ARC edition that was sent to me by the publishers in New York. Liv (writing as Wendy Tyson) has penned several other books including the Allison Campbell Mystery series and the Greenhouse Mystery series. Liv Andersson multitasks as an author, a lawyer, and a homemaker. She lives with her husband, children, and their dogs in the beautiful state of Vermont, USA.

Every family holds secrets, some of them sinister and Little Red House builds on this premise. The story goes back and forth between 1997 when Eve Foster’s daughter, Kelsey, runs away from home and the present day. Kelsey vanishes without a trace and Eve goes on a search that leads her to Nihla, New Mexico where a spate of killings by a serial killer have been reported. Years later Eve dies, leaving behind most of her wealth to her “good daughter” Lisa and barely a pittance for her other daughter Constance, which includes a dilapidated house in New Mexico. Constance arrives at her house, and at once realizes her dead mothers torture and mind games are not over. Gradually, the horrors of her house, the cold demeanor of the town residents and a deep dark family secret begin to unravel, almost driving her insane. The ending is unexpected and nothing short of shocking.

The novel is a complex web of secrets, revenge, lies and deceit. Almost every character in the story is reasonably well developed. The length of the novel, allows that gradual build up of character arcs. In my opinion, Eve Foster is “the protagonist”, she is believable and brings in charisma each time she appears in the story. There is a constant dark tone to the overall ecosystem in which the story operates. The authors use of language is simple and on occasion her choice of words and framing of sentences was something I took a liking to, for instance: “My traitor of a stomach growled”, “I could feel Eve’s presence like a malignancy that couldn’t be excised”, “Nothing motivates like fear”, among others.

I reviewed the digital ARC copy sent to me by the publishers in New York on my Kindle. The front cover is simple yet effective in my opinion. Dark, gloomy skies, a half-view of a run-down red house – all add a sense of secrecy and mystery, which I found to be the essence of this novel. This was my first time reading a book by Liv Andersson. She does hold promise as a suspense and mystery writer. However, personally for me, I found the book a bit too long. This surely gave space to develop the characters well, however, the tension that was so well built-up in Chapter 1 of the story, dwindled half way through, though things picked up a bit towards the end. The final 2 or 3 chapters had things wrapping up swiftly and the ending, I admit, was not something I saw coming. If you are a sucker for happy-endings, prepare to be disappointed. The final chapter left me feeling lonely and empty … yes, empty would be the right word. I will not say that is bad in this case, considering that psychological thrillers have so much going on that the manipulation and deceit can often leave emotionally involved readers rather distressed. If you are a fan of suspense, mystery, or psychological thrillers, go ahead. The book could also be a good candidate for an adapted screenplay, like a slow burn 6-to-8-episode web series (possibly).

Little Red House is a captivating, quite eerie, thriller that spans over 20 years and follows the Foster family (mainly Eve in 1997 and Constance in the present). Eve's first child, Kelsey, goes missing in 1997. Eve then follows clues to her daughter's whereabouts in New Mexico; however, rather than finding her daughter, Eve discovers a close-knit community who are willing to lie, cheat, and, possibly, murder for one another. In the present, upon her mother's death, Constance inherits a random house in New Mexico. Constance travels out west and discovers that there was much more to her devilish mother's ways than she had ever known.

The author does a great job describing the deserts of New Mexico; I truly felt like I was there. There are so many twists in this book, many of which I was unable to predict. The story kept me at the edge of my seat, reading the book in one sitting. Little Red House is definitely a book that stays with you. I find myself continuing to think about the characters, the story, and the ending. It's unique and one of the better thrillers of 2022.
