I enjoyed this book. This is my first book in the series but not my first book by the author. I'm a big fan of her other series. I enjoyed the mystery and following Shiloh as she stuck her nose where it didn't belong just like a cozy sleuth should do. I enjoyed the love interests and I'm really excited to see what happens next. Overall, a fantastic series and a good cozy mystery.

I enjoy this series with its small town charm and taking place on a family run organic farm. A satisfying mystery, some good character development, and a potential love triangle makes me intrigued to read the next book.

After reading this I am on the hunt for a cherry stout and might have to settle for a Black and Red, (my version of a Black and Tan) using a cherry beer and a dark stout. I wonder how it would taste in a chocolate stout cake, hmmmm. Anyway, I digress from the plot of this stand-alone cozy that gives you plenty of back story, when needed. For example, the relationship between Shiloh and her father is not warm and fuzzy, rather, it is a tad chilly and stiff like the winter weather they are experiencing. This character aspect is very true to life, I could imagine a parent having a difficult time showing love to others, even their own child, while dealing with the loss of their spouse. Thank goodness for Shiloh’s grandmother, who was able to pick up that slack as it were when Shiloh’s dad pulled away, mourning. I like the way Shiloh is working towards a better relationship without compromising herself. She does point out that therapy has made her progress possible. Several of the characters have some hard-hitting character development which draws you into the story even more. Speaking of the story, very typical cozy where our protagonist is asked to help get a friend off of the police suspect list. There are many characters as well as some questionable goings-ons. While it appears that Shiloh has her share of challenges it also looks like she is going to have her share of good fortune. I look forward to seeing what she does with both her business/farm life and her personal life in the next book. As an added bonus the book has instructions on how to make a bird treat to help our feathered friends during the cold wintery weather.

Amanda Flower's In Farm's Way is book three in her Farm to Table Mysteries series. It features Shiloh Bellamy who has saved her family's farm from financial ruin. Now she must build on her success but the farm is barely afloat despite branching out into organic produce and she has plans for a café to showcase her baking skills. When Shiloh’s best friend, Kristy Garcia Brown invites her to a beer tasting party and voting contest for a new cherry flavoured beer she reluctantly attends but the results of the vote are questioned and the brewery owner is found dead.

Set in Cherry Glen, Michigan, this is a great cozy mystery you shouldn't miss that will keep you guessing. A joy to read, I will be backtracking to book #1, Farm to Trouble as well as looking forward to the next.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel from Poisoned Pen Press via NetGalley at my request and this review is my own unbiased opinion.

Review:

The characters are well developed and well rounded. Shiloh
Is working hard to make improvements to her family's farm and wants it to become organic. She would like to get in a partnership with a brewery to be organic. But as luck would have it, the owner of one of the breweries is found dead. She knows she will have to find the killer before her friend’s husband takes the blame.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and these descriptions helped me to enjoy the book that much more. The mystery was well plotted and there were enough clues to sift through and suspect to consider. I was not sure who the killer was until it was revealed at the end, which is how I like my mysteries.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. This book has everything you would want in a cozy mystery, including an adorable pug.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Poisoned Pen Press, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.

This is a Cozy Mystery, and this is the third book in the Farm to Table Mysteries series. I have read and reviewed the first two books in this series before picking up this book. I think that this series is better if you do read this series in order. I really enjoy the characters in this book, and I love the farm talk and stuff in this book. The mystery in this book was fun to follow along with, and that is what I love in a cozy mystery series. There was a lot of suspense and build up, and the ending was really good to me. I was kindly provided an e-copy of this book by the publisher (Poisoned Pen Press) or author (Amanda Flower) via NetGalley, so I can give an honest review about how I feel about this book. I want to send a big Thank you to them for that.

In Farm’s Way by Amanda Flower is another terrific story from this author. This one takes place in Michigan, in the middle of winter, so snow is a main character that makes its appearance almost immediately when Shiloh ends up in the ditch. Not to worry, though, Quinn was right there to rescue her. He always was, but when she asked for more, he said no. It was all very complicated and rooted in the past. Then, all those smaller problems were put into perspective by murder. Wallace Fields was killed in his own brewery. That didn’t bother Shiloh as much as the fact that Kent was married to her best friend, Kristie, and was a bartender at the brewery. He also had just lost a brewing contest that cost him thousands. They all knew how that made him look.

Flower is continually maturing as an author. I have been following her for years and am constantly amazed by the way she pushes boundaries, mostly her own. This was a good mystery; it took some serious sleuthing and two law enforcement agencies to solve it, plus Shiloh. The solution was certainly not obvious, although in some ways it was. Shiloh is a well written character who had made some changes in her life and was reeling from that reality. She had things from her past to over come and she was dealing with that well. The nice surprise was Sheriff Milan Pembroke, from the next county. He seemed to welcome her assistance, a nice change of pace from Quinn’s father, the local police chief. He is intriguing. It was a good book. Looking for more going forward.

I was invited to read In Farm’s Way by Poisoned Pen Press, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #PoisonedPenPress #AmandaFlower #InFarmsWay

Dollycas's Thoughts

Winter in Cherry Glen means plenty of ice, snow, and slippery roads. It also means the annual Lake Skegemon Ice Fishing Derby. Shi's dad Sully will be out on the ice with Quinn and Hazel. This year it also means a contest at Fields' Brewing Company to name a new brewmaster. Each contestant had to enter a cherry beer. Shiloh has plenty to keep her busy trying to come up with ways to save the family farm but her best friend Kristy's husband Kent is one of the finalists in the contest so she had to go to the party. Kristy thought for sure his cherry stout would win but when owner Wallace Fields announced the winner it wasn't Kent.

The next day Shiloh arrives at the derby to drop her father off and work in the Cherry Glen booth with Kristy. She gets waylaid on her way to the booth when her pug Huckleberry drags her over to see something under the ice. It's Wallace Fields and he won't be catching any fish or brewing any more beer.  The police quickly place Kent at the top of the suspect list which means Shiloh is going to have to break a lot of ice to get them to take a look at a bunch of other suspects. She has to be careful too or she could be the next one swimming with the fishes.

______

My heart was just breaking for Shiloh several times during this story. She is working so hard to keep the family farm and make the repairs it needs. Going organic may be the answer but it's a long process.  That is a lot of weight on her shoulders. Then her relationship with her father has not improved much at all. Seeing him have a great relationship with Hazel makes things even harder. She is happy they are friends and have fun together, she just wishes for a similar relationship with him herself. Then there is Quinn, who put Shi firmly in the friend zone when they would be great as a couple raising Hazel together. He is going to be sorry if she moves on with someone else. All of Ms. Flowers's characters are interesting with great real-life connections. I do love Shiloh's pug, Huckleberry. He and my dog have a lot in common when it comes to proper attire for canines in the winter months. Too Funny. Three stories in and I am very invested in these characters.

There were several viable suspects when it comes to the brewery owner's death. I really enjoyed the way Shiloh threw herself into her investigation, even if it did put her into some tricky situations. The police warned her several times to butt out of their case. As they predicted her pursuit of the truth took an ugly turn that set up a scary reveal. It gave me chills. The guilty party was not on my radar at all. Readers were introduced to several new characters in this book and my focus was cleverly diverted to a different one by the author.

Winter in Michigan is pretty darn similar to that in Wisconsin. So the weather outside my window was the same as it was at the derby and the Bellamy farm.  A nice furry blanket, a Christmas present from my daughter-in-law, and a couple of cups of hot chocolate kept me warm and toasty as I read about the frigid weather in Cherry Glen and the surrounding area.

In Farm's Way was full of cherry beer and winter fun, a captivating mystery, and true-to-life characters. I really enjoyed the entire story.

There are some more interesting times ahead for Shiloh so I am counting the days until I can return to Cherry Glen and the Bellamy Farm next year.

Shiloh Bellamy is determined to save her family farm. She's doing all the repairs she can during the winter so she can focus on crops in the spring. She's also working towards getting her cherry trees certified as organic so she could pair with a local brewery. Anything to save the farm.

As a first step toward local partnering, Shiloh attends an unveiling of a new cherry beer at Fields Brewery. She hoped to speak with the owner but it didn't happen. The next day she takes her dad to a local frozen lake so he can participate in a ice fishing tournament. After getting her dad settled on the lake, she discovers the dead body of the Fields Brewery owner under the ice.

The police suspect Shiloh's friend so she's determined to identify the real killer, and there's no shortage of suspects.

This is the 3rd in the Farm to Table series. It's a great series with interesting plots and wonderful characters.

I honestly reviewed an unedited digital arc provided by NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I am a big fan of Amanda Flower’s books but this series just doesn’t do it for me. There’s something almost formulaic about everything in it – the quirky characters, the quaint setting, saving the farm, dealing with the past – it almost feels like there’s a cozy mystery checklist, and not in a good way. I love the dog and Hazel but the other characters are not loveable, right down to Shiloh. The mystery felt rushed and I wasn’t even really invested in the investigation. I think this series is just not for me.

Shiloh is trying to get organized and figure out just what she can accomplish during these last months of winter and what she needs to start doing in the spring. She's even hoping to make a deal with a local brewery called Fields thinking that including other businesses will help build her own. Fields is having a party to announce their new Brewmaster and the ale they have created, her best friends husband is one of the finalists. After the winner is announced not everyone is happy but Shiloh heads home, she has an early morning because the Ice Fishing Derby starts the next day. Shiloh's dad is entered in the derby and she takes him and gets him set up. She decides to walk around and check things out but it all goes wrong when her pug drags her to a piece of ice that is holding a dead body. The derby is in a different county so she doesn't have to deal with the sheriff but isn't sure how the investigator will feel about her butting in. She dives into the.mystery because it looks.like her best friends husband is the main suspect. Follow along to.see if she clears his name and figures out who the killer is!

I received this ARC thanks to NetGalley. In Farms Way, Shiloh is on the case again to figure out who killed a brewery owner while also trying to fix up her farm. This book is a great cozy mystery. This is a great read if you enjoy mysteries with a twist.

This mystery definitely has a mix of different quirky topics going on including ice fishing, birding, organic brewing including a cherry beer contest, and further plot about the Bellamy farm.

I really liked this cozy mystery, even with the finding a murder victim under the ice part. I definitely bounced around on who I thought was responsible, because there were so many good choices to throw me off. Maybe some cherry beer would have been a good addition to have along with reading this book.

This book also pulled me into wanting to read the next book. I want to find out what Shiloh does with her grandma's hidden secret and if her relationship with Quinn changes.

Thank you to Poisoned Pen Press and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.

In Farm’s Way is the third mystery featuring Shiloh Bellamy. The series is growing on me.
It’s winter in Michigan and since I’m experiencing a bitter winter myself, I have a pretty good idea of the conditions occurring in the story. I usually like reading books in the same season that I’m experiencing but this might have been a little too real. I’m not really a winter outdoor activity person, so all the ice fishing and walks sounded like a bad idea to me.
Shiloh finds a dead man under the ice at the annual ice fishing competition. When her friend Kristy’s husband becomes a suspect, Shiloh starts asking questions. There were lots of good suspects. It took until more pieces of the puzzle were revealed before I had an inkling of who might be behind the murder.
It takes until this book to get an answer to the question of where the heart of the farm is located. It’s something from the first book, a message left for Shiloh from her grandmother.
I like how the series is building on the foundation of the first book. While this book could be read as a stand-alone, I think it shines best if a new reader starts at the beginning.
I would recommend In Farm’s Way. Especially if you’re curious about farms and Michigan.
Thanks to Netgalley and Poisoned Pen Press for the opportunity to review this book.

This is the third book in the series. For some reason I was thinking it was the last, but the way it ended has me wondering. I like all of Amanda Flower's series that I have read, but this one is going to take some growing on me. I couldn't tell you why, I live in Michigan, not far from where this is set, and everything she has written so far is correct. I especially like the animals, her Pug, Esmeralda the cat and Diva, the chicken. Maybe it's just that I prefer stories centered aound books, rather than saving a farm!
