Gritty thriller featuring DCI Danny Flint and his team. When sex offenders are being murdered ,it makes you think. Where would your sympathies lie. A good read.

Danny and his team I thought was very thorough in their investigation in the hunt for a psychotic killer. In these scenes I could tell the writer did a great job in researching in many of the responsibilities that detectives must do to catch a killer, The book was engaging. The book is a definite page turner for those sleuths that love to find out who done it. The book is entertaining, with adding the main parts of the story at the beginning of the book.

Another good read from Trevor Negus. The crimes in this book involve child abuse and fairly graphic murders. Not for you if you are of a delicate disposition. Set in 1988-1989, some of the evidence techniques take longer than nowadays and there are no mobile phones.... it makes you realise how far we have come in 35 years.
The crimes are well thought out, the main character, Danny is well portrayed. The investigation is interesting.

Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review

Not the first Trevor Negus book, I've read and certainly won't be the last.
Sex offenders are being released early from prison and someone is killing them with a hammer to the head.
Danny Flint and his team face the difficult task of tracking down the perpetrator without the help of the general public who aren't exactly rushing to assist the police with the task.
This book will certainly set you thinking as to where your sympathy's lie.
Is revenge of this nature ever acceptable ?
Rattled through this book in the space of an afternoon in isolation whilst suffering from covid.
A great read and thought provoking at the same time.

This is the first book by Mr. Negus that I have read and I have to say I am in love with his writing. This book pulled me in from the start and kept me wondering till the end.

They preyed on the innocent. Now they will pay.
Manfred Bauer, a convicted sex offender, is found bludgeoned to death.
As DCI Flint and the MCIU begin a murder investigation, they are faced with a wall of silence from an apathetic public who have little sympathy for the dead man.
Then a second sex offender is found murdered. The killer has left an identical signature on the shattered skulls of each victim, leaving DCI Flint in no doubt the murders are linked.
As the subsequent investigation gathers pace, it uncovers the existence of a shadowy organisation targeting sex offenders. But who is behind it? And how can it be stopped?
When a third victim is beaten to death on a canal towpath, Flint realises he is in a race against time – he needs to move fast if he is to prevent the killers striking again.
But working quickly means taking risks and Flint soon realises his own team may be in grave danger - as they face off against a group who will stop at nothing to accomplish their deadly mission.

This is a thrilling and gripping read.
Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start.
Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable.
Great suspense and found myself second guessing every thought I had continuously.
Can't wait to read what the author brings out next.
Recommend reading.

I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.

A fast paced and gripping police procedural who kept me on the edge. I liked the team working and the clues left by the authors that helped you but never gave the solution away.
It's the first I read by this author and won't surely be the last.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

"A Sweet Revenge" was interesting and kept my attention, especially regarding how the murders took place. The author give just enough details about the murders to keep you guessing as to the identity of the killer. I liked the idea of adding a quirk in the plot that keep you reading. I would recommend this book for people that like mysteries, murders and a surprising outcome.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Inkubator Books for an advance copy of A Sweet Revenge, the seventh novel to feature DCI Danny Flint of Nottinghamshire Police’s Major Crime Investigation Unit, set in 1988.

Someone is battering newly released sex offenders to death and Danny is having difficulties in his investigation. There is nothing by way of forensics and the public is largely uncaring about the victims. Could it the work of a shadowy group ostensibly campaigning for longer sentences for sex offenders or could it be more personal? It’s time to think outside the box.

I enjoyed A Sweet Revenge, which pursues the usual conundrum of did the victim deserve his fate? There are no answers to this in the novel, but plenty of horrifying tales of abuse.

The novel is a straightforward police procedural where everyone is a suspect until eliminated. I enjoy the grind and logic of a procedural where dogged investigation and experienced people watching allows them to narrow the field. I must admit that I guessed the perpetrator in advance of Danny and his team, but it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the novel as it was fun to watch them catch up and build a solid case in the face of my gut feel.

It is not a novel of strong emotions. There is the odd worrying moment, but on the whole it is all about the investigation and the steps taken to catch the perpetrator. The way that catching was done appealed to me as something a bit unusual and the author saves his best twist for the epilogue.

Apart from the lack of modern technology there is little to place the novel in the late 80s. There are a few archaic attitudes from Danny about working wives and child care, because his job is so much more important than his wife’s even if she is a doctor. On the other hand he is happy to accommodate his staff and how they want to do the job and that is not my memory of working practice at the time.

A Sweet Revenge is a good read that I can recommend.

The fact that this is the 7th of the DCI Danny Flint books by Trevor Negus indicates that it is a very popular series. It was the first one of the series that I had read and I found it perfectly readable as a stand alone story. Yet while it delivered many of the ingredients I expect and enjoy in a police procedural murder mystery, the overall mix left me disappointed. While the premise of a serial killer targeting sex offenders is intriguing, with the added ingredient of a shadowy organisation with malevolent intent towards sex offenders, I found the plot to be simplistic, the dialogue (especially between police officers) to be unconvincing and the ending to be rather predictable (roughly halfway through the book, I had correctly identified the killer, their motive and the significance of the killer leaving their “signature” on the victims’ bodies).

One only for the loyal fans of DCI Flint I think.

I just love Trevor Negus's writing and I was very happy to see a new title pop up on NetGalley.

A convicted sex offender is found bludgeoned to death and the killer has left a very unusual calling card. DCI Danny and his Major Crimes Investigation Unit start the hunt for the perpetrator, but they’ve covered their tracks very well.

The bodies of a second and a third sex offender are found, and both have the same strange item left on their bodies as the first one. The team is frantically trying to catch the killer before there are any more deaths, but they’re also up against an organisation of vigilantes.

A great, thrilling read with lots of surprises. I loved the more personal side to Danny in this book - it was great to build on him as more of a human being than just a DCI. As always, great character development, even in those characters we only get fleeting glances of. Lots of twists and turns, surprises and gruesome killings. Set in the 80's in England which adds to the gloomy feel.

Number 7 in the series but easily read as a standalone. A great read for those who love crime novels.

4 stars

The book opens with the smothering of an old man in a care home.

When convicted sex offender Manfred Bauer who was recently paroled from prison is murdered, DCI Danny Flint and his team swing into action. Their investigation leads them nowhere fast. Another offender is murdered in the same manner with a chocolate bar left on his forehead.

They get a lead that a group is operating in the area who takes offenders to task. But they get no proof that they had anything to do with these deaths.

Another offender is murdered, beaten to death in the same manner as the other two. The police really try to step up their efforts to capture the killer. They are met by apathy by the general public. They don’t care that such men are being killed.

Then a clue happened. One that just might give the police a solution. They devise a surveillance plan that is labor intensive.

An officer is injured, but the suspect is captured. Their identity is a surprise, but I can see why they committed the crimes.

The book is well written and plotted, as are all of Mr. Negus’ novels. I enjoyed it very much. I liked DCI Flint and the team. He really cares about his team members. They get along well. I will continue to read his books.

I want to thank NetGalley and Inkubator Books for forwarding to me a copy of this very good book to me so that I may read, enjoy and review it. The opinions expressed here are solely my own.
