In A Million to One, four women sneak onto the Titanic to steal a famous jewel-encrusted book. We follow their escapades as the story counts down to what we all know is coming, the boat sinking. Will they steal the book? Will they survive when the ship sinks and what will happen to the book if they get it?

I should have read this book sooner. This was a very fun YA historical fiction. I loved the relationships between the four friends and knowing the Titanic was going to sink going into the story added to the suspense.

I highly recommend the audio and also reading the author’s note at the end.

Historical fiction is often hit or miss for me, and this one landed right in the middle. It took quite a while for our group of girls to all get together and get the story going, so I struggled with the pacing a bit. There was also, of course, an impending sense of doom during the entire book because you know that the Titanic is going to sink. Looking back, I think that really colored my perception in a slightly negative way because it was so hard to enjoy even the lighthearted moments when you know there is tragedy on the horizon.

It sounded perfect but sadly it just didn’t hit. A heist on the Titanic, but sadly it missed with me. The characters are not fleshed out enough, and the actual heist isn’t flushed out. I was greatly disappointed

I really wanted to love this book. a book about women meet historical fiction meets titanic meets oceans 11. Sounded like a great time and although it’s not necessarily a bad book I just did not enjoy it.

The characters are very diverse and unique within their own stories. This story is told through multiple POV’s, and each character is unique in their past present, and the aspirations they have for their future. Despite their uniqueness, most of the characters felt to me. Because it was multiple POV. There were often times where I would be forced to read a point of view of a character that I did not care about. Another thing is the way that the reader learns about the trauma or past experiences of the characters. A lot of it was telling the reader as opposed to discussing it with another character in the story or experiencing it again, and because it was more and less doing it was boring for me.

There is romance in this book, but it is very flat and mute. Quite forgettable, and it didn’t help keep the story entertaining like I hoped it would.

I really enjoyed the action scenes in the ending. I thought it was well written in that aspect. I think if you are someone who loves the titanic and loves historical fiction this is a great story for you. But it just was not for me.

Thank you to HarperCollins Canada for providing me a eARC of this book, and exchange for an honest review.

This was such a fun and face paced read I enjoyed it the entire time. Was the premise slightly ridiculous? Of course but the escapism of a heist aboard THE Titanic was so fun to read. It was everything I wanted.

I feel like I’m alone in my option of this one. I LOVE the premise and the characters are all wonderful. I was super into it up until the 80% point or so when it all fell apart. Every decision made once the boat starts sinking was another nail in the coffin for me disliking the book. And then one giant, poor choice is made where 2 of the characters just DIE and it’s moved on as if it makes any sort of sense. There’s no emotional lead up or anything whatsoever, they just nod at each other and then die. The romance was out of left field and the characters who survived only did to enable a romance. I was at a very solid 4.75 rating pre death and then a forgiving 2.75 post death.

President of the Adiba Jaigirdar Fan Club reporting for duty! *salutes dramatically* In all realness, I really do love Adiba's books and she's easily one of my favorite authors! This one is a departure from her usual sapphic rom-com and is instead a historical adventure/heist novel set aboard the Titanic. It follows 4 teenaged girls who team up to steal a precious jeweled book on board the Titanic. This book is such a page-turner and the heist was such a fun, immersive plot that it will honestly make you forget that the ship is going to sink. I also love seeing historical novels focus on marginalized characters whose experiences may have been left out of these narratives in the past. This book features several BIPOC and queer characters, and this just made me so happy to see! This is super different from Adiba's previous work, but if you've enjoyed her queer romcoms, I think you'll still find something to love in this one! I'd also recommend it to fans of Stacey Lee.

ADIBA JAIGIRDAR <3333333
This book is seriously so good. Too good. Adiba Jaigirdar will seriously never fail me. When I heard about this book I lost it. Sapphics on the Titanic? It was my dream! And then when I got the arc?! I lost it even more! And it lived up to my hopes and dreams. The characters, the plot, the writing, everything. Absolutely fabulous book.

Also apologies I kind of dropped off of the face of NetGalley but I'm going to catch up and review all of the books that I did actually read but just never reviewed. Thank you for gracing this copy to someone who was too incompetent to review it on time. Or write a good review. I reckon I should probably give up on NetGalley but it kills me to see my score this low.

This book was absolutely fantastic. I've already added it to our list for order next year and will recommend it to students.

Adiba Jaigirdar has impressed me. A sapphic Titanic heist novel is an interesting premise on its own, but they deliver a wonderful novel. As a child, I was always fascinated by the Titanic and it was nice to have another story about it to read. The main characters are interesting and unique, each introduced with their own personal drive to complete the heist, and I found myself rooting for them quite easily.

Hello Again,

I spent time going through my libby wishlist recently, I got rid of a ton of titles that I had listened to but were still lingering on my list, titles that I DNF’d, and titles I just generally did not seem interested. After I finished that, I went back through and added lots of new titles that I might be interested in listening to. One of those titles was A Million to One. I had heard about this book right before it came out and I really love a good historical fiction. I have never ever read one about the Titanic so I figured let’s give it a try! So without further ado, let’s talk about A Million to One.

SPOILERS AHEAD

A small group of women decide they are going to rob the Titanic! It’s about to make it’s maiden voyage and they know that something priceless will be abroad the ship. If they are successful with this heist, they will all not only have a much better life but they will be able to solve pretty much all of their problems. So the group makes a plan and decides they are going to do this! They get abroad the Titanic and they all have their dedicated roles in the plan. But what if, the one thing they have been assured will not happen, happens? What if the Titanic sinks?

I was super excited to give this book a try. I thought the audiobook would help with the multiple characters/perspectives and help me to clarify what is going on in the story with everyone. Overall, I thought the story was fun and unique but I found myself struggling through some pieces of the story. On a final note, I wanted to mention that the cover is amazing! I absolutely love it. Let me know in the comments if you have read this one or any other historical fiction books lately!

Overall a decent book, the characters didn't fully get the development I was looking for, but still good enough.

I was so excited to read a sapphic historical fiction by a favourite author but sadly this missed the mark a bit. There was no suspense to this story at all, I liked the characters and I wish there had been more chemistry between them and just more romance to be honest. The sinking of the titanic was inevitable and yet was almost hardly included in the story line, it took so long to reach the sinking that the ending felt rushed. I'm sad to say I'm disappointed with A Million to One but this definitely won't stop me from reading more of Adiba Jaigirdar's novels.

Over all I enjoyed this! I definitely think some of the characters weren’t as fleshed out as they could be, and it’s definitely a bit rushed. I do think that’s a consequence of the setting of the story, but I did have fun with it nonetheless. I will recommend this to the YA enthusiasts in my life!

I love reading about heists, it's one of my all time favourite tropes. Plus, the Titanic is such an exciting and high stakes setting that I knew I had to pick this book up. The beginning of A Million to One was a great set up for the story. I enjoyed learning about each of the girls on the team and their motivations for joining the heist. Unfortunately, the pacing of this book was too fast. While we had a great cast of characters, their development and relationships felt rushed. It was hard to get invested in their stories when we didn't get a more in depth look at their pasts. The heist itself was an intriguing idea and I liked the Titanic ship setting and how this made their goal more difficult. However, when the ship hit the iceberg, the plot was predictable and I was able to guess what would happen early on. All in all, the concept of A Million to One was a lot of fun, but the pacing took away from the story.

This review is kind of hard to write, because there are so many great things about this book, but there were a few small things that really bothered me. A Million to One is a heist story that takes place aboard the Titanic. Our heist crew is a diverse group of teenage girls, from different backgrounds and countries. There’s a sweet sapphic romance, a which was always a nice break from action-packed adventure. This also leads to one of my issues, which is that I wish we got to know all the girls just a little more. I think character work is really important in stories like this, and I definitely cared about these girls, but I needed a little more. I wanted to sob when tragedy struck and the boat sank because I cared so much, but I wasn’t there. I needed it to be a little longer.

I also thought the villain was ridiculous and made our heist leader look awful. There’s also a white girl who doesn’t realize racism exists, and a few other heavy topics that needed more time. Still, the heart of this is excellent. The heist is fun and I was on the edge of my seat. I was filled with dread the whole time, and I rooted for our crew until the bitter end. I’m glad this exists and I think teens will love this, especially queer girls or girls of color. This is such a unique take on the Titanic and I think it would be an excellent film.

Entertaining YA novel set on the Titanic! I do think the characters could have been fleshed out a bit more, and some elements felt a bit rushed, but an entertaining heist story that teens will likely enjoy nonetheless.

I love historical fiction about young, scrappy sapphics! A fun, mysterious romp. The ending is a bit of a bummer (it's The Titanic after all) and I found the constantly shifting persepctive a little disorienting at times, but this book felt fresh and fun.

Thanks to HarperCollins and NetGalley for this ARC.
