So this was definitely not a favorite for me. I am a huge Patterson fan but this storyline had me a little so-so right from the start. Pregnant women who make poor choices with drugs, alcohol or men hold little appeal to me and a story with one who flounders in all three is definitely in the negative range of interest. The characters were definitely well defined and the story moved right along with his signature short chapters - it simply was not my call to interest.
Did not see that ending coming at all.
Good reading if you are good with the subject.

Emily is pregnant, and has gone missing. Her best friend - Betsey is joining in on the search with the police department to not only find her, but to also figure out who the father of her unborn child is. There are multiple suspects, as she has a unique relationship with multiple individuals.
The story goes between the present and the months preceding her disappearance. Another good one from James Patterson that doesn't disappoint in the thriller department.

I didn't really like Emily Atkinson. She is a spoiled little rich girl who drinks, parties and does drugs way too much and has no redeeming social value. Then, when she passes out on the street after a particularly busy night, she finds she is not only sick from everything she has done to her body, she is also pregnant!! She doesn't know whether she will keep this baby or get rid of it, and she is so emotionally and physically drained that she can't even make THAT decision. But Betsy, the nurse who was on duty in the ER the night Emily was brought in sees something in her that no one else does. She sees a decent human being that, with a lot of support may show herself to the rest of the world.

Emily does decide to keep the baby, but she has a hard time not drinking, partying and generally carousing. But the months pass and she falls in love with little "Oscar" in her belly. Is someone stalking her? Or is she having hallucinations? WHAT is going on? And then she disappears.

What follows is a story told in two parts: Emily's narration of her pregnancy and what she THINKS is happening, and Betsy's frantic efforts to find her friend before she has the baby.

This was hard to get into at first, partially because I REALLY didn't like Emily. But it slowly caught my attention and I finished it quickly after about the halfway mark. I did not figure out what was going on, and was suspicious of EVERYONE, just like Emily.

The Ninth Month by James Patterson is one of the best thrillers with a really twisted outcome. Readers will not be able to figure this one out!

Fast-paced story that quickly pulls the reader in. However, the characters were a bit hard to like, and it was difficult to root for them at times. There were some loose ends and unanswered questions, which was somewhat frustration. Patterson fans will likely enjoy this one.

Emily Atkinson lives in a luxury apartment in New York City. She is smart, rich, and a hard worker, but she parties way too much. She ends up in the hospital with a heart attack. While there, she learns that she is pregnant. Her nurse, Betsey, shares that she is also pregnant. The two become friends and Betsey encourages Emily to live a healthy lifestyle for the sake of her unborn child.

As Emily tries to live her daily life in the city and remain sober, she gets the feeling that she is being followed. She learns of a couple women who are missing. She worries that she may be next. She becomes paranoid, believing that everyone she sees could be after her. It begins to get really frightening when she comes home to find that some of her picture frames have been turned over. Is this really happening or is it all in her imagination?

This thriller was a page turner. I thoroughly enjoyed it, however, I felt there were some loose ends. The ending was too abrupt. Overall, I recommend it to fans of James Patterson’s work. It will not disappoint.

Emily living an unhealthy life of alcohol and drugs has a heart attack and finds out she’s pregnant. The story begins with the disappearance of a very pregnant Emily, and nurse Betsey who became her best friend is trying to find her.. Betsey’s worried because Emily has been convinced someone is following het and trashing her house. Although Emily is not a likable character, nor are most of the others, the book sucked me in and was a page turner until the story ended abruptly leaving too many unanswered questions. Why end the book by the side of the road just as Emily gives birth?

I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
Emily, an executive finds herself pregnant- now she needs to quit her drinking and partying. When Emily suddenly hears of two women missing she becomes worried as she has felt she is being stalked. Is this for real or her imagination? Could it be one her former lovers or the escaped murderer? Why would someone stalk her?
And then things become really scary!

3 stars

This was a typical Patterson novel. Not one of my favorites. This one seemed to not really go anywhere until the last 5 chapters, and was pretty repetitive too.
There are quite a few unanswered questions too, like how did Betsey and Emily become best friends so quickly? What was the blue spot on Emily’s belly? There are others too, but I’m just so frustrated I can’t think of them. Just too many loose ends.

Another thing is that all of the characters are just awful, I couldn’t really route for any of them.

Overall it was just ok
