If you know one thing about me, it’s that I’m a proud Jane Austen fangirl — and "Pride & Puppies" was just MADE for that side of me!

This small-town romance gave me, like, Keri Russel in "Austenland" vibes, and I'm here for it. Told in dual perspectives, it's a sweet friends-to-lovers, slow-burn love story with an "Emma"-inspired matchmaking side plot. It was so, so, so cute and fun, like, just perfect for any Austen fan out there. The language is very compelling and easy to get drawn in, telling the story of such relatable and authentic characters.

Honestly, Lizzie Shane’s book had literally EVERYTHING I love in a romance novel — especially as an Austen fan — and I just wanted to savor every sentence, every paragraph and every chapter. And then at ending? Oh boy, did it make me smile!

Y’all this book’s premise had me hooked and I wanted SO BAD to love it. But for some reason I struggled to read it.

The story itself was adorable and I loved the banter between George and Charlotte, but the story itself read very slow to me 🫣 I had such high hopes for the story but found myself wanting more of George and Charlotte.

Definitely not a spicy read so if you like a more sweet romance this is for you! ❤️

Charlotte has sworn off men and adopted a puppy instead. However, she and her neighbor, George, have a serious case of sparks flying.

This plot is nothing new. Girl falls for neighbor. Neighbor falls for girl. Will they or won't they? I wish we could have seen more of the love story rather than the pages and pages of miscommunication and confusion between Charlotte and George. Overall, the book was ok and good for a quick read!

Such a sweet love story between George and Charlotte. George was definitely a sweet guy and Charlotte definitely deserved to end up with him. He also deserved to have someone like her too. I liked the references to Jane Austen also. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy.

Pride and puppies is a small town office romance. Charlotte gives up on the idea of being in a relationship and thinks getting a puppy will make her happy. George just wants to be with Charlotte.

I honestly have mixed feelings about this one. I loved the Jane Austen themes and the idea behind George. George wasn't and isn't the normal hero we see and I like that. I like that they bond over dog poop of all things.

I don't like how the miscommunication kept happening over and over and over again. How we see Charlotte AND George make assumptions like not wanting to hold hands, or whatever. I wanted to scream through the book for them to just talk! We hear Kendall be the sane one, telling Charlotte to talk to George. I also disliked hoe selfish Charlotte was, she didn't want to move to Colorado because she'd leave her family, not expected/wanted George to stay when he LEFT his family in Colorado. She kind of expected him to give all. Yes she got mad at him for always giving in. But she wasn't willing to sacrifice anything but have him do all thw work. She projected her last relationships on George when she kept saying he wasn't like them. That was unfair. Let's also talk about how she strongly didn't want George to be compared to Mr. Knightly, because her mom hated Emma. She wanted George to be Darcy but heaven forbid your boyfriend not be Mr. Darcy.

I would recommend this to a Austen loving person but I probably won't read it again. The miscommunication was too much and how selfish Charlotte was turned me away.

This was a pretty cute book. It gave me all the Jane Austin and dog vibes it promised me in the title, as well as small town feels, which I absolutely loved. There’re some things I really liked about this book, like all the supporting characters. To me, they are what made the story so fun. I loved Charlotte’s best friends, as well as George’s sisters, and all the residents of the estate, especially Howard. They really gave life to this story to me. I also really liked the friends to lovers that this story had as well as the small-town vibes, with everyone knowing everything about each other. This story was pretty adorable, and really reminded me of a Hallmark movie.

There was a couple of things that I wanted more out of the story. Despite giving me some Jane Austin feels, I wanted more of it, as well as more pets. I feel like it was a big part of the start of the story, but then became an afterthought later on. I would have liked to see more of Bingley, as he was a little Rockstar. I also didn’t love the miscommunication that this story had, but that might just be a personal thing. To me, I feel like a lot of things could have been avoided if George and Charlotte only talked to each other and had real honest conversations instead of just talking about their feelings with their friends and siblings. Because of this, I felt like there was a lack of chemistry between them, and I would have liked a bit more from them.

Overall, it was a pretty cute story, but I would have liked to see more from it.

I had no idea that was the fourth book in a series until after I started it, but it can easily be read as a standalone. I requested it on NetGalley for a reading challenge prompt of a Jane Austen inspired book. I am so glad that I did! This book far exceeded my expectations which were low since I'm not a classic book lover and don't read retellings.

Highly recommend this book if you love Jane Austen novels and dogs. The book was a very adorable read and had me vying for the main characters to fall in love and have their happy ending. I enjoyed the lead female characters energy, her enthusiasm and also her self esteem issues. The male character brings a sense of calmness and gentleness. I was so thrilled with the puppy and dog story, as the helped to connect the couple. The Austen quotes were very captivating at the beginning of each chapter. Such a beautiful connection of classic romance novels and modern one. I read this book quite quickly as I was wanting to have a happy ending.

Charlotte is a doctor in Pine Hollow, Vermont who has had trouble finding the right "one," and her love for Jane Austen may be leading her to date jerks instead of finding her own "Mr. Darcy." Physical therapist, George, moved to Pine Hollow in order to find his own happily ever after, but is considering moving back to Colorado after struggling to find his place in the small town. After a series of bad boyfriends, Charlotte decides to swear off men and get a puppy, but after she and George grow closer, she wonders if her "Puppy Pact" was such a good idea after all.

I really enjoyed this book and appreciated the sweetness of this friends to lovers story. I also appreciated the ways that the two main characters grew throughout the book. While Charlotte is able to focus on herself and realize that she doesn't have to be alone in order to be happy and healthy, George learns that it's OK to put himself first. George's sisters and the dogs were a welcome addition and I liked how the author incorporated the Austen quotes in each chapter, too. While this book is part of a series, I think it can easily be read as a standalone novel. The writing was really good and the story flowed well, but I felt like some of the extra storylines could have been left out to "speed up" the book.

Friends to lovers, Jane Austen quotes and puppies! What more could a romantic at heart ask for! I thought this was a cute story. We have Charlotte, a spunky energetic doctor who has had a bad string of relationships and has sworn off men after the latest breakup. We also meet George, Charlotte's coworker who is sweet, lovable and would do anything for anyone he loves. I enjoyed the growth with both characters and watching them fight their fears and follow their hearts.

Charlotte Rodriguez is a Jane Austen super fan looking for her own Mr. Darcy. After her most recent romantic disappointment, she swears off men and adopts a puppy. It’s an unfortunate turn of events for George, Charlotte’s coworker and friend. He moved to the small town of Pine Hollow for a job and has had a crush on Charlotte practically from day one. This is a closed door romance but there is a lot of swearing that I could have done without. It’s book four in a series, but the first that I’ve read and it works well as a standalone story. It’s a quick read but I felt like it could have been tightened up a bit more. I really liked the Austen references throughout and quotes at the beginning of each chapter.

What a wonderful book!! I just sighed every time i put it down! George and Charlie are the cutest couple and the chemistry is natural and believable. The family dynamics add to the story line and make for such a delightful romance. Characters from the other sister novels pop in and make it feel like you're a resident of pine hollow yourself. Such a good story, how do i wait for the next installment??????

This book focusses on Charlotte and George in particular. Dr. Charlotte Rodriguez has a messy track history with men, and is oblivious to the admiration of her Colorado transplant coworker, George. To make matters worse for George, Charlotte decides to enact a "Puppy Pact;" swearing off men (temporarily) and getting an adorable golden retriever puppy, Bingley. With this book you'll find a cozy setting, some adorable puppies, and likeable supporting characters.

If anyone guessed this is going to be cute and sweet romance, you got it right! This is absolutely sweetest with sweetest George who is secretly in love with our girl, Charlotte. Charlotte, after dating series of Darcys, gave up on men and adopted a puppy.

Charlotte and George are two doctors in a cute vermont town who are the best of friends, even if George is hopelessly in love with Charlotte and hasn't been able to tell her.

This was a very cute friends to lovers story. A quick clean romance with no spice except a few well placed innuendos. It was a very cute little escapism novel but my chief complaint is that I feel like we missed all of the flirting. Most of the story was internal monologue about how each character was so nervous to make a move that basically nothing would happen. I wish we had gotten to see a bit more flirting or just sexiness in general.

Overall a super fun quick read that gives off great summer hallmark movie vibes - 3.5 stars!

This book was cute, clean, sweet, and adorable. I enjoyed a lot of parts of it, but unfortunately I could not connect with the characters. I found the back and forth too much and the romance was slightly unbelievable and not fleshed out enough.

However, if you LOVE Jane Austen, then this book is worth a shot because of the funny references and banter.

You pretty much know exactly what you are getting into with the title. We have a Jane Austen inspired romance, with puppies added in for good measure.

I enjoyed this, it was light and easy to read, but will this stick with me long term? Probably not. I liked this! But it wasn't incredibly memorable.

Classic friends to lovers trope with a Jane Austen inspired story line. Overall the book was fine, nothing that hasn't been done before. It was cute. Set in "Vermont" but honestly could be any small town in any north eastern state.

She goes to her neighbour, and co-worker, George, for dog advice. Charlotte is sure she won't fall for him, because he is kind, sweet, nice and totally not her type. Little does Charlotte know that George has had a crush on her since he met her a year and a half ago, but she is always in a relationship. In her desire for singledom, her and George begin to spend more time together, as friends, and she begins to discover she has feelings for him. What will she do since she has sworn on men and doesn't want to be let down again?

This was a sweet book, that had a lot of focus on growth for both our main characters. They are both pretty insecure in their ideas of love and whether they could be loved and I liked to see both come into their own and believe that they were worthy of love, and the kind of love they wanted. More than the love story, I loved the friendship that developed between Charlotte and George and how their relationship started as friends, and developed into something more.

I enjoyed the side characters and really liked getting to know Charlotte's friend, Kendall and Magda, as well as George's new friends like Howard and Mac. I also thought George's sisters, though not physically in the book, were great additions with the zoom book club meetings and support they were giving him. Of course, the other two side characters were the dogs, Duke and Bingley. Duke was a sweetheart and Bingley was a mischievous puppy. I love that Lizzie Shane adds so much dog to her stories, it constantly leaves smiles on my face!

Pride & Puppies is a sweet book that puts a smile on your face and the occasional tear in your eye. I couldn't help but love and adore this novel. Thank you to NetGalley and Forever publishing for a copy of this book. All opinions are 100% mine.

The premise was great for this novel. I love a Pride and Prejudice themed book and puppies. I didn’t like how charlotte was so desperate to fix up George with a girlfriend. I get that she was on a dating hiatus but it was pushing some boundaries as George never asks her to set him up on dates.
George and charlotte taking care of each other was the positive, good interactions and conversation. Any scene with the dogs was a winner!
Overall it was ok. I read it in a few days so it did hold my interest. It isn’t one I’ll pick up to read again.
