The story was kind of fun but the characters were a little bit flat. It would have been nice to get some more development out of them. At some points, they just did not seem to be natural at all. The cell phone element was a little out of place, with no explanation of how they worked trans-dimensionally, which just seemed so irrational. Merging modern and traditional fantasy together needs to be done carefully and with some plausibility, which this didn't have. Nevertheless, it has some fun elements.

I usually love this type of fantasy, quests, magic and werewolves - I was really looking forward to it. But I just couldn't get away with it. It seemed like it had a bit too much thrown at it and it didn't quite work. The characters felt a bit jumbled up and the reference to cell phones was a token effort to ground the fantasy to the modern world.
I'm afraid this book felt like it was trying too hard, and it didn't work for me.
