A pretty story about three friends who walk out at night, then find strange markings. They then decide who will check further, who is there besides them. A beautiful story of friendship and courage. Beautifully illustrated too! This story is great for nighttime readings, with the help of parents for young kids.

I loved this book. It's got a sweet story that's adventurous enough to keep the kids interested, but it's not so scary that they won't be able to sleep. But what I really liked were the illustrations. They just fit perfectly with the story. It's impossible to picture anyone else illustrating it better.

An odd title, considering Barnaby is the first one afraid. XD

A trio of animal friends go for a walk, and encounter an abandoned hut...with a light inside. Big-to-small, they each creep towards the hunt, trying to solve the mystery, until they get spooked and head back to their friends. Except for little, scared, but brave mole.

The art style is reminding me of SOMETHING I've seen before, but I can't put my hand on it. Akin to Max and Ruby, with a bit less clothing. The characters are rendered with partial outlines, and filled in with color to create something solid, while also being quite basic. Hands, mouths, and fur are just little jagged lines, bit it works quite well within the style. Most pages have full backgrounds, but even on the pages where we don't see the full sky behind the characters, we do see some grass behind and dirt in the foreground, giving a sense of space.

There's almost a seek-and-find element, with an odd little green (and then mud-brown) frog appearing on about most of the pages. The frog does not appear when the friends sneak towards the hut, which makes some sense, visually, but it a bit disappointing. My kid LOVES finding hidden characters in books, and it wouldn't have been too hard for the frog to sneak alongside the investigating characters.

I really enjoyed this cute story about friends and fears. The story shows how Barnaby and his friends were able to overcome their fears as they take a walk together through the woods. They each take turns investigating something they see and are fearful of what it might be. By facing their fears, they were able to see that they didn't have anything to worry about. The illustrations were beautiful and young children will want to read this one again and again.

This book features Barnaby, a badger (wearing his beloved scarf) , and his friends turtle and mole. One night while out on a moonlit walk they come across some unfamiliar animal tracks and cannot identify them. They cautiously continue their journey together to try and discover their source.

The friends must show composure and bravery to each other to solve this mystery. Could it be a scary witch or something dangerous that may harm them? They discover a lighted hut and a huge, looming, indistinguishable shadow inside. Whatever or Whoever could that be? Will someone in their group have the courage to go forward and find out what is going on?

The illustrator has included another character that kid's can spot on each page as the friends to solve their mystery. If readers look closely they will discover an adorable little frog from Barnaby's pond popping up as he follows the trio on their trek. It is a component that kid's will love I'm sure. The illustrations are fun and the book is about friendship, teamwork, and overcoming your fears. I highly recommend the book.

This picture book tells the story of a badger and his friends, a turtle and mole who go out for a walk in the evening and are scared by some of the noises they hear. The book shares the message that by facing your fears you have the opportunity to try new things and that you don't need to hide and be afraid. The illustrations are nice and the story is a good length. The font is a bit small and at times a bit hard to read because of the colour of the background. Some pages have a white border so the font is a bit easier to read on those pages. As a teacher, this is something I look for when choosing texts for my classroom. I would recommend this book to parents of children age 3-8. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.

Hmmm... Except he clearly is, as of three friends to be anxious on approaching the hut in the marshy landscape and being scared off by the silhouette of whatever's inside, he's the first. This is a kind of picture book version of Plato's caves, with shadows and suggestion being what people play off – in this instance the titular badger, a mole and a tortoise. Beyond the falsehood in the title, we get a translation that felt a little stilted to me, leaving a story with little surprise beyond how it bodges the rule of threes, and some wonderful art. With so much better to look at elsewhere, I'd not rush to recommend this, and give it two and a half stars.

I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed this story of a badger who is afraid of the dark. It would be a great read for kids who are also afraid or tbe dark or have a particular fear that they could better understand and approach.

While the illustrations are cute and the animals are lesser-used creatures which provides an opportunity for education, the writing is clunky and the plot is rudimentary even for a young reader.

This sweet little book is about how we can share our courage (and get a little extra) among friends. The illustrations were charming!

I want a striped scarf like Barnaby's!!
Barnaby and his friends are certainly adorable. Barnaby, with his favorite striped scarf, leads his friends on a moonlit walk. On this walk they all discover some mysterious animal tracks, and so ensues the adventure to determine what type of animal is in their part of the woods. In the end, we learn that sometimes it is best not to let our imaginations run too wild.

The illustrations are darling and endearing. I could definitely see a set of stuffed animals based on these characters.

Grateful to have received a digital copy of this book from NetGalley & Princeton Architectural Press

Loved the kind of retro art in this story. The story is sweet and teaches about being brave, working together, and being careful when making judgements about things we may not understand.

Review to come late August to my book blog + goodreads.

I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review~

A big thanks to the publisher (Princeton Architectural Press) for auto-approving me! I already had my eyes on this picture book but when I got auto-approved it meant I could request it instantly! Yes!! I just couldn't resist this book about animal friends going for a walk and what they encounter then.

In this book we meet Barnaby, a badger who is getting ready to go on a moonlight walk (though the moon wasn't that big) with his friends, Constance the turtle (brilliant name) and Claire the mole (love it). The trio are having a good time... until they find a print! They are trying to figure out whose print it is and I had a laugh that one suggested dinosaurs (which technically wouldn't be wrong). And then they decide to follow that and things get a bit scarier! I had so much fun reading and following our group. They have to be very brave at times and I was excited to find out what or who was living in that hut in the swamp. Was it a scary witch? Something else that may frighten everything? Or is it just a new friend? I won't spoil it but I was very proud of our group trying to be brave and figuring it out, I definitely hadn't expected that animal to be the bravest of them all. Sorry to that girl!

But there is someone else we should keep an eye on. They are being followed by the frog from Barnaby's pond! The little guy is there all the way. Hopping along. Taking a mudbath. Hiding along with our trio and even disguising himself. It was brilliant and I love that this was added. I am sure kids will be delighted to follow him, point him out as the story continues.

The art, OMG, I just loved that one so so much. It was beautiful and brilliant and I guess I will have to see if I can find more of this artist, or if I already know them.

All in all, this was a terrific book about friendship, an exciting walk, and a fun ending! I would recommend this one to all.

Barnaby Is Not Afraid of Anything is a sweet story about three animals friends who encounter a strange creature. I loved the sense of adventure and how the illustrations added to the mystery!! The sky was a little dark, a little spooky.

Barnaby is Not Afraid of Anything is a whimsical picture book about a badger named Barnaby who goes on a nighttime stroll with his friends Constance the turtle and Claire the mole. They come across some unfamiliar footprints and decide that they need to investigate. One by one, they take turns to go and see what made those weird footprints. Badger goes first, then Constance, then Claire. Will they be brave enough to finally figure out who it is?!

The friendship between the three animals is endearing and the illustrations give the story a whimsical feeling. This book would be great for bedtime as it's set in the moonlight. Thank you NetGalley and Princeton Architectural Press for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
