I have been eagerly awaiting this sequel and am thankful to have been given an opportunity for advanced listening. That said, I enjoyed this book, but less so than the first. The return to the sisters and their stories/interactions was great. They faced real problems, and their character development was evident. I think my issue came from the chanting, which felt off in the audio version and often took me out of the story. This may not have been an issue for me if it was read instead of heard. Additionally, I felt like the climactic scene was over very quickly and resolved in a way I found confusing. Still, the sisters' development was good, even if I wish there had been more to one particular sister's involvement. I'm glad I got a chance to revisit the sisters Grimm, overall.

First and foremost, thank you to netgalley for allowing me the pleasure of enjoying this book before the publish date.
Onto my thoughts, I absolutely loved the sister dynamic, I loved the characters in the first book so I knew I would love getting to revisit them. I enjoyed the different POV’s a lot and the writing style was quite whimsical. While I did enjoy the overall plot and premise of the sequel, the story was painfully slow for me. A good chunk of the book, I was not invested or really interested at all. Once I did get into the story, it was pretty enjoyable.

van Praag's story of three sisters united by their Grim powers was slow building. I may have placed the novel at a disadvantage by not reading the first novel, but the description made it seem as though I could somewhat jump in as we are in the chapter following the family tragedy and the death of loved ones. This novel has all of the things that should make for rich character interaction, but it took over half of the novel to really get off the ground. The sisters finally reunite and begin working towards their common goal. Sisters were varied in personality and experience but I think what this book is missing most is a sense of urgency. I enjoyed the concept but found it hard to convince myself to keep reading. It was fairly good but not gripping. Also, the male characters were quite flat.
