I was lucky to receive an advance copy of The Locked Attic by BP Walter from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review and opinion. I was very excited to read this book as the description for it was fantastic. I found this book to be somewhat slow paced and difficult to finish. I would give this author another try but didn't love this book.

The Locked Attic was a quick and simple read i devoured over a few hours on a rainy weekend. I found it pretty average but it was enjoyable enough. Very quick to read and a good thriller to keep me entertained but also a bit messy, there was a lot happening across the chapters and I think if I hadn't of read this in one setting I would have gotten a little frustrated with the pace. The attic wasn't really a feature which was misleading, instead the story focuses on two young boys. It's told across two timelines which I never seem to get along with very well.
Overall it passed a nice afternoon away and i'd read the rest of the authors work.

The Locked Attic by B P Walter left me feeling more than a little conflicted. On one hand, I found the narrative to be somewhat confusing with its shifting timelines, but on the other I could not stop turning the pages to see how it all played out.

Stephanie is grieving the loss of her husband and her son, Danny. Before he died, Danny became friendly with a neighbour of the same age, but something happened between the two before the accident that took his life, and Stephanie is determined to find answers.

This one is, in my opinion, a bit of a slow burning domestic drama more than a psychological thriller, but well worth the effort. 3.5 stars

Many thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for an ARC.

This book started off really well for me but then it started to become very predictable. I couldnt connect to the characters . The ending was also very disappointing.

Like many other reviewers, I struggled with this one a lot. The synopsis told me one story while the book itself seemed to go in an entirely different direction. The timeline also tends to jump all over the place. I'm not sure Walter's writing is for me. This very well could be a case of "it's not you, it's me."

A new author to me and I was impressed.
The story goes back and forth from current to past events all surrounding the mystery of her neighbours and their possible connection to her sons death.
Twists and unexpected occurrences keeps a steady pace throughout, whilst being quite poignant and emotional.

Many thanks to the publishing team for my digital copy for review
The blurb sounded interesting to me but once I started to delve further into the plot the writing style and intensity of the story had me sold! But this was more dark and intense than the blurb suggested.
It was a page turner that I couldn't put down.
One aspect that I liked was the focus on the friendships and no matter how complex and far apart the lives were having that network (even when questions were left unanswered) become a place of familiarity and security.
The book does get very dark as the story develops and we get to read in dual timeline from past and present until the end and it comes together in the most errierest of ways!

Unfortunately, this book did not meet my expectations. The synopsis sounded great but it didn't deliver.
This book is told from different points of view and goes from before the explosion, the day of the explosion and after it. I thought the explosion was going to play a big factor in the book sadly not. It was slow and I still have no clue about what I read. I don't think B P Walter's books are for me. Sorry.

⭐⭐⭐⭐ -- Neat cover on this book!

I am giving this one 4 stars solely on being entertained. This author's books are always highly entertaining and always have me furiously flipping the pages. Was the plot a little "meh"? Yes. Was the ending anticlimactic? Again yes, however this author never fails to suck me into his stories, so sometimes a book just being entertaining is enough. 😉

Ive really enjoyed BP Walter's writing in his previous books and was looking forward to The Locked Attic. Unfortunately it didnt grab me as much as his previous writing, and I found myself putting it down in favour of something else. Ultimately a rare DNF from me, so I can only give it 3/5 stars

Another fantastic book by this wonderful author. Everything B P Walter releases is pure gold and this is no exception.
A story full of suspense and wonderful characters, I raced through it to find out what was going to happen.
Wonderful read as always!

A heart pounding, captivating thriller that was unlike everything I expected it to be - in the best way ever. I didn't want this book to end and I loved every second of it!

The Locked Attic by B P Walter is a mystery about Stephanie, her son, and her neighbors. When explosions rock her neighborhood, she goes over to her neighbor's house. Her neighbor's son used to be friends with her son, so she is hoping to get some answers from them. But, soon, she ends up with much more information than she wanted. This book kept my attention, but the reveals were a little weird. Thanks to NetGalley for the free digital review copy. All opinions are my own.

Although I did enjoy this book a lot, the Locked Attic aspect of it was unfortunately not as exciting as it was let on to be! I enjoyed the tension and the build up throughout the book. The development of the story between mum and son was particularly good.

One word: pointless.

This book sounded right up my street and it just really failed to deliver.

Every single one of the characters has the morals of an alley cat and aren't likeable in the slightest.

The subplot of the explosions I was expecting to lead somewhere but just felt like there was no point whatsoever.

The blackmailing plot, couldn't care less.

And the secret thing in the attic was utterly laughable and unbelievable that the whole book would revolve around this.

Unfortunately a major disappointment.

*Thanks to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK and B. P. Walter for the copy of this book. All views are my own.*

I’m gonna need the synopsis to match the actual plot of the book. Felt very misleading and did not enjoy this book because of it.

There’s something in my neighbour’s attic …

In The Locked Attic we have Stephanie, who is grieving her husband and teenage son, who have recently died. Before this, Stephanie knew that something was wrong and that her son, Danny was in trouble.
One day she turns up on her neighbour’s doorstep determined to find out what they know. Danny was friends with their son, but something happened between them just before his death.
She can feel someone watching her and throws herself into the midst of their supposedly happy family and intends to drag the truth out of them, one by one.
We follow dual timelines here and gradually as we read on we learn a little more and bit by bit, chapter by chapter we start to build up an idea of what happened.
I found the book difficult to put down down by this point and flew through the book, determined to know what had occurred and just what is in that locked attic?
Very well written, messed up characters in this dark thriller, however the ending wasn’t as dark as I was expecting!!
A solid ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 1/2 stars from me and I recommend it to contemporary thriller fans.
Thank you to onemorechapter for my e-arc copy, The Locked Attic is out now!

The Locked Attic by B. P. Walter is a thriller, focusing on one character and her struggle to put events into context and deal with her grief.

I found this to be a gripping page turner as I tried to put all of the information into context to understand what happened!

I found the characters to be rounded, and was interested in what would happen next!

I was given this book in exchange for an unbiased review, so my thanks to NetGalley and to One More Chapter.

I’m a bit disappointed with this one, I was really looking forward to it as I love BP Walter’s book but I just found this one slightly confusing.
I loved the premise and the setting and I normally love the thrill BP Walter provides but this one just didn’t quite hit its mark due to the confusion and the kind of ‘what the hell’ thinking. Still enjoyable and would still recommend just prepare to be a little confused!
