I really wanted to like this book based on the description but it really dragged for me… Zoe starts up ‘The Good News Gazette’ in the hole of raising the profile of her home town which has been on the decline. A construction company wants to knock down the local parade of shops and replace with a supermarket…. So ensues a campaign to save the parade.

Not all books are for everyone and this wasn’t for me, it just didn’t go anywhere.

Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to review a digital arc of this book.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Zoe who recently lost her job as a journalist is unsure of what she should do. She starts what is known as the good news gazette which takes off in directions that Zoe never guessed. This book dragged in a couple instances.

This was the feel good book I needed. If scrolling through the news sites keeps you up at night, this is a book you need to read because it will infuse you with hope for the downtrodden.
Zoe Taylor has just been laid off from her job at the local newspaper after being given her redundancy. Panicked and wondering how in the world she is going to afford to keep her and her son afloat while she looks for a job, she calls her two best friends who console her and convince her to start a newspaper of her own focused on good news, not bad. Zoe takes their advice and ends up finding a lot of good news in her community along with helping spearhead the drive to save the shopping center in town.
I really enjoyed following Zoe's story and her enthusiasm for her town and the good things she knew she would find. The romance was pretty good, I was surprised she ended up with the guy in the end because I really felt she was being pushed toward the villain of the story, but it was still solid. The side characters are all amusing, I definitely want to visit Cath's Caff and enjoy some time chatting with the locals. I think the only thing I didn't care for was the side stories with Zoe's friends and how her friend would randomly call her "chick". Not sure if that's an English expression more than an American one, but it did always feel off reading it.
All in all, this was a good hopeful story that I loved reading.

When journalist Zoe is made redundant by the doom-mongering newspaper she works for, she decides to start her own paper focussing on nothing by good news from the local area. Her first roadblock to cheering up the locals is the impending destruction of a local community hub, so she rallies the community and sets out on a mission to change the mind of the developer.

This was an interesting book. I expected it to be a standard rom-com with the obligatory love triangle and cantankerous-with-a-heart-of-gold antagonist - you know the sort. But it wasn't.

There was a lot of surprising depth to The Good News Gazette, exploring the value of community groups and volunteers, youth gangs and engagement, parenting, relationships, families, homelessness, and the courage to stand up for oneself.

The Good News Gazette started out as a bit of a slow read, but it became an engaging, funny, charming tale of community and self discovery.

~Many thanks to Netgalley for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review ~

I sadly had to DNF this one, I found the characters to be quite whiney and toxic. I might revisit it in the future but for now it's a no from me.

A fairly enjoyable light read with a good dollop of humour and some romance in the mix. I didn't really take to the main character, Zoe, who I found to have an enormous chip on her shoulder and somewhat self-centred with woe-is-me traits. Nonetheless, that aside it was a light uplifting read in the main. I quite liked the Facebook random messages at the end of each chapter, quite typical of community Facebook pages.

I was drawn to this book by the front cover and I am so glad that I got to read it. I loved everything about it and I can't wait to see what else the author does

DNF because I hated the characters within the first chapter. Literally would rather read an old phone book than any more of the self-centered, nasty characters.

This is a five-star read that will warm your soul. This book is like the reading equivalent of snuggling up with a blanket in front of a warm open fire with a large glass of something tasty. Zoe is a fighter, she really does push everything and she does it so well, she really is someone you can get behind, as you watch her fight for what she feels is right, it will bring you close to tears as there are so many ups and downs, and the characters you will start to care about watching them flourish and grow will grow your heart. This story shows us there is warmth in the world and its just so positive it cant help but make you smile.

Just the book I needed at the moment…..I really couldn’t have chosen a better read
Zoe is in a slump, she’s happy enough, just but feels she fails in a lot of areas and so when life comes calling again at her door she decides to start up ‘The Good News Gazette’ for her local town, but is there any good news to share?,will anyone be interested? Can she drum up any support for this venture? She has difficulty at first in all of these areas and then the news the local Shopping Centre is to be demolished to make way for a mega supermarket seems to just make her job even more difficult……..but with determination and a new love interest and the rallying of townsfolk maybe just maybe she can make a difference
Uplifting, happy, feelgood and life affirming I really did enjoy this book and what it gave to me as a reader, well written and engaging and would be difficult not to fall into its charms tbh 😎

Zoe returned a few years ago to the small town. It's quite different from the life she had in London. Now she is a single mom and covers local news. Then she got fired.

She got her friends over and over a lot of wine she come up with a solution, she will start her own newspaper, with a website and print as well, but will only write about good news. The news coverage has gotten very depressing and never covers anything good, and she wants to make a difference. She wants her Gazette to make people feel good and hopeful.

Along with a brand new business, there is a threat to the community that she loves so much and she will do all she can to help it.

It's a lovely story of never giving up, finding your own way in life and standing for what you believe no matter what. The story portrays a realistic view of the life of a young woman, who runs a business and is a single mother as she navigates daily life and the trouble that comes with it.

got it on NetGalley, all thoughts are my own

Journalist and single parent Zoe gets fired, so decides to start The Good News Gazette to cheer local people up. During her investigation she meets handsome football coach Sam, her former schoolgirl crush and enrols her nervous son, Charlie, into the team. She also discovers that the local run-down shopping arcade might be pulled down, which would completely change the neighbourhood. She'd lose her local bookshop! Written in an upbeat way, the story makes for a fun read.

The Good News Gazette by Jessie Wells

Zoe is made redundant from her job as a journalist and decides to set up the Good News Gazette. She uncovers heartwarming stories in her local community and leads a fight to save the local parade of shops from a developer who wants to turn it into a giant supermarket. Along the way she organises a carnival and finds love.

A lovely feelgood story with lots of humour mixed in. I loved the characters in Zoe's community, especially the eccentric ones! Very highly recommended.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book.

The Good News Gazette is a sweet story about a single mother, Zoe, who after being made redundant at a local newspaper, decides to start a new paper that focuses on good news only in her community. While in the process of searching for good news, she connects to the community and becomes involved in saving the local parade shopping center from development into a generic supermarket. There is a bit of romance weaved through the book, but I wasn’t sure who she’d end up with in the end. Zoe is an easy character to like and I couldn’t help but want her to be successful. If you are looking for an easy read that focuses on the positive, I’d recommend Jessie Wells “The Good News Gazette”.

Thank you NetGalley and One More Chapter / Harper Collins UK for sending this book for review considerations. All opinions are my own.

The Good News Gazette had so much of what I could have hoped for in a feel good novel, but… this just fell flat for me. I couldn’t connect to the story, I disliked the gossipy tone here, and I found the characters unlikable as well.

However, this was well written and most reviewers seem far more enamored than I. I simply wasn’t the right reader for this, but I have no doubt it will find its audience.

The main character, Zoe Taylor, doesn’t seem to have anything going right in her life. What I loved about her was that she is such a “real person” character you feel that you could know someone just like her. She has recently been let go from her employer and decides to start a local news paper that only reports good news in their town. Then she finds out that the Parade, a beloved landmark in their town, has been bought by a developed and will be torn down and replaced by a supermarket.
As she hunts for stories to write about she meets people all around that are doing some great things. Then the entire town comes together to fight to try and save the Parade. There are lots of ups and downs but it’s a heartwarming story overall and I recommend it. Thank you to netgalley and the publisher for this arc in exchange for my honest review..

I’d describe this book as realistic fiction. The author has done an amazing job at creating imaginary characters and situations that depict the world and society. The characters focus on themes of growing, self-discovery and confronting personal and social problems. This is a first for me by the author and one I enjoyed and would read more of their work. The book cover is eye-catching and appealing and would spark my interest if in a bookshop. Thank you very much to the author, publisher and Netgalley for this ARC.
