I like the overall concept and plot, but our toddler and us DNF. I didn't enjoy the illustration style or the wording.

A fantasy book about zoo on the moon and what animals you can find there. A purely imaginative book, with imaginary creatures, and a good one to pass time.

For the kiddos that love space and also love animals… Well, here’s your perfect combination. Bonus: They are going to want a trip to the zoo after this – that is doable. Downside: They may also want a trip to the moon: I try not to assume, but I’m going to say that is not doable… That being said, this one, with its unorthodox combo of animals and space will have your little ones entertained and cackling. From laughing giraffes, camels wearing socks, funny looking penguins and more, this one is a wild ride that will have imaginations running full speed.

I received an arc of this title from NetGalley for an honest review. A silly story about strange animals on the moon. Excellent rhyming skills too.

The Zoo on the Moon is filled with strange creatures like turtles with false teeth, elephants with faces on their tails, giggling giraffes stuck in buckets, and sunbathing hot dogs with mustard for sunblock. No humans have ever gotten a look before now and kids sure get an eyeful!

Whimsical and fun, Zoo on the Moon is adorable and fun to read. I love books with a sense of humor for young kids, as they can get the giggles starting between parent and child. This book is well illustrated and is sure to be cherished. I could see it being used by teachers as a lesson plan for imaginative drawing and writing, or by a librarian during story time. Zoo on the Moon is a book that I would recommend to readers, young and old.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy of Zoo on the Moon by NetGalley and the publisher, Windmill Books. The decision to read and review this children's book was entirely my own.

I think the idea for a Zoo on The Moon as a children’s book is a pretty good idea. I do not think it was executed well.

The animals shown on the moon were weird mutations of Earth animals. It had animals like a penguin with two heads and a crocodile snowman. These were more strange then funny. I actually think alien animals would have been more interesting.

Finally, there was no main character. In the end it showed an astronaut leaving the moon, but we don’t see him anywhere else in the book.

Zoo on the Moon is a wild and zany picture book full of silly make believe animals that live on the moon. I instantly was reminded of my own childhood reading quirky nonsensical Dr. Seuss books with fun lyrical rhymes. This would be such a fun read aloud as a bedtime story at home or for carpet time in the classroom. Teachers could build a lesson and have students create their own moon animal complete with a sentence and illustration. I can definitely see little ones giggling at the imaginings of this story.

Creative and silly, this would be a fun book to use in the classroom where children create their own animal for the zoo on the moon.

My five year old daughter thought the moon animals were hilarious! She loved this quick read and asked to read it again immediately after finishing!

Thank you Netgalley and West 44 Books for the digital arc in exchange for an honest review.

Cute story! Davis Walker has written and illustrated a sure to tickle littles imaginations book. Kids will likely continue to add their own alien creatures to the moon zoo, and dream of one day visiting. Nice art prompt, too! Kids can draw their own beasties after the story. Fun for pre to 2nd grade.

Well, for a silly and frivolous nonsense poem this does very well. The moon has a zoo, and through this rhymed book we see a lot of the absolutely absurd animals that are up there – from the rhino with hedgehogs for feet to the two-headed penguins and back. The verse is done really well, although of course the scope for word play should make the meter and rhymes even easier to come up with. I guess this is four stars, although I'm not the genre's hugest fan, and I don't see this getting that many re-reads. It could only work as an inspiration for our own wacky animal creations as well, so it will definitely have mileage, if no lifetime fans.

There are many ways this imaginative book about animals in a zoo on the moon could be used in classrooms. Kids could make up their own animals mixing up body parts and being creative. I really liked the story and art.

Zoo on the Moon is an adorable book about "moonagerie" of strange creatures! Any lover of Dr. Seuss will be a fan of this book. The rhyming, illustrations, and the creativity really bring the animals to life. I think this book is perfect for any preschool/elementary school teacher, parents, or anyone with small children. My 2.5 year old thought it was hilarious and wishes she could take a rocket to the moon.

Thank you NetGalley and Windmill Books!

Hop on a rocket to visit the Zoo on the Moon! You'll see many wacky animals on your trip there. Some might seem familiar but take a look closer and see that they're truly silly!

I'll be honest and say that some of the made-up animals were a bit creepy and weird for my taste but I know with absolute certainty that my young students would LOVE this book. All the wacky animals would have them howling with laughter. The illustrations would keep them captivated for a long time and would encourage them to read the words that match the silly pictures. This book would be a great book for a silly writing prompt about animals!

Thank you NetGalley and Windmill books for the advanced copy. All opinions are my own.

Fans of Dr. Seuss and his crazy made up characters will love Zoo on the Moon by David Walker. This funny, rhyming picture book tells of all of the crazy creatures you might find in a zoo on the moon. The animals generally look/have features that they would have on Earth, but with other random things added or parts removed, such as elephants with faces on the tails, snakes with ears all over their body and hippos with only 2 legs and one eye. There are also silly circumstances that these animals find themselves in, such as using chopsticks, sunbathing with mustard and being stuck in buckets. This book is sure to draw kids in with the funny pictures and silly ideas. I could also see it being a great jumping off point for writing their own silly stories and stretching their imaginations. I would recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in the age 4-9 range. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!
