I loved the dual POV of this book. i felt like it really helped the story progress. this book was really fun and i LOVE reading about event planners. I got so stressed during this book but i still really enjoyed it. I really liked both of the main characters and the plot was super fun and quick to read.

Review: A COSMIC KIND OF LOVE by Samantha Young shorturl.at/bimxC

I enjoyed this sweet contemporary romance. The writing flowed and it was easy to switch from each first-person viewpoint. Chris was the astronaut yet didn’t have the cockiness that I thought he would have. He was likeable with a vulnerability that I found endearing. Hallie was not only an over-the-top people pleaser, she was also a magnet for mayhem. Despite seeming a bit immature at times, it made me chuckle. They were each successful in their careers while being unsure of their futures. In other words….normal. They made a lovely couple.

I enjoyed watching their relationship grow into a sexy romance. Nothing felt rushed or forced. There were some predictable parts that made my eyes roll (especially her parents), however it did not ruin the story for me. Overall, it is a feel-good and charming romance.

This book wasn't like anything I've ever read before! I thoroughly enjoyed having the hero, Chris be an astronaut. It was so fun reading about him being in space. And Hallie I just loved everything about her. She was awkward and got herself into hilarious situations and it was just so refreshing to not have this perfect person. We all have those moments we relive in our minds for eternity and she just went with it. I loved how these two met and their instant connection and chemistry once they saw each other in person. Their relationship although not perfect was built out of trust and believing in one another and I adored how much they built each other up. Their parents leave much to be desired and they were hard pills to swallow. Luckily, they don't hold too much attention as the book goes on. This book was a slice of pie and I truly enjoyed the cosmic ride Samantha takes us on!

Samatha Young has a very unique way of presenting her stories. She has been groundbreaking in the past, and with this new book, she actually looks to the heavens for inspiration.

We have had many a book with one of the main characters being a wedding planner. It makes sense we would see this woman researching all she could about her bride and her relationship in order to make the wedding everything the bride wants. But this time, Samantha Young has our gal going through videos the bride gave her and sees videos of the ex-boyfriend who just happens to be an astronaut on NASA's space station. She thinks he is amazing and decides to send him videos he will never receive, a way of just letting go of all the crazy she has to deal with day in and day out...

What could be the harm, no one would ever see them, right...

Surprise, our guy does and we get a very special romance.

What a sweet and creative story from the always charming Samantha Young! This one had me grinning from ear to ear, with a love story that is out-of-this-world adorable, loads of laughs, and a connection so deep is rivals the galaxy.

The premise of this is just so darn fun and unique- our heroine Hallie, an event planner gets accidental videos of her client’s ex. An ex who just so happens to be an astronaut in literal outer space. The charisma and charm of the Nasa astronaut Chris is so undeniable that Hallie can’t help but send him videos back, videos that escalate into so much more than strangers.

It’s like NASA-romance (is that a thing? It should be) meets mistaken identity meets penpals meets slow burn rom com. I loved how these cute videos helped these two get to know each other and build such an authentic and sustainable connection- one that translates so nicely outside of the screen when these two meet and are able to explore their chemistry outside of their virtual bubble. They’re clearly soulmates- and it’s just so ridiculously swoony that I couldn’t help but sigh with contented glee. What starts as a cute interaction develops into a deep bond where they help each other work through their baggage with their careers and families and ex’s. And we have some really endearing secondary characters that make this story all the more rich and lovable.

Samantha Young always writes stories that so endearingly build characters with complexity who somehow in the least place they expect fall into a love with the person they were meant to find. Hallie and Chris are just that- soulmates that shine brighter than the stars. I loved watching them fall in love and figure it out- it was cosmically heartwarming.

There was something(s) about this book that just didn’t do it for me.

The relationship between the characters felt a little too cookie-cutter, which is really saying something since they were an astronaut and a high-end party planner, job careers you run into every day. The main issue, I believe, that this story didn't work for me was because nothing really happened. Some authors can do this type of story well, but unfortunately, it didn't work for this version.

That combined with a meet-cute that made me feel a little iffy, and a few unanswered plot points drives the rating of this book down for me. I've enjoyed Samantha Young books in the past, but this one isn't moving to the top of that list.

A Cosmic Kind of Love is a sweet romance set in NYC and sometimes on the International. Space Station. I always come back to Samantha Young for a slow, rich romance and this one didn't disappoint.

The cover for this is so cute and I thought it would be just the fun, light, read I was looking for. Alas, it didn't grab me in the opening. Maybe I'll give it another chance in the future, but for now, there are more exciting looking reads to turn my attention to.

This book was so cute. I'm not used to light and cute romcoms from Samantha Young but this one is totally worth the read. I loved that it wasn't too heavy or too awkward. I love a good romcom but I can't read something that is too embarrassing for the characters. Thankfully this was just the right amount to keep it comical. Both of the main protagonists were fun and complicated characters and their friends-to-lovers story was unexpected but so cute. I hope the author writes more about these characters or others in the future.

When event planner Hallie gets files of inspiration from one of her brides, the last thing she expects to find are videos from the bride’s ex. But because she’s curious she watches them, and finds the astronaut behind them to be funny and cute. She decided to email and send video diaries of her own to his discontinued NASA email, but what she doesn’t realize is Chris is watching every single one. Despite never meeting or speaking directly to each other, they each find themselves very attracted to the other. But will that attraction translate to real life?

This book was SO CUTE. It is definitely one of the top romances I’ve read this year. Both Hallie and Chris were incredibly wonderful characters. They felt so real and there were so many layers to them. They both were in challenging stages of life, and I was rooting for each of them for different reasons.

It’s no secret I adore romances with depth. Books that give me the warm, fuzzy, happy emotions of love but also delve into more serious topics and get deep and emotional. This book was the perfect example of that. These characters had a lot going on and some pretty major family issues to work through. Seeing how they evolved throughout the book was a beautiful journey, and seeing how they ultimately supported each other was amazing. This book left me with a smile on my face.

Thanks to Berkley Publishing for the advance copy. Thank you to @berittalksbooks and @dg_reads for the buddy read!

I'm not mad at this character at all. She's totally relatable and there are people as quirky as her in reality there are! I've seen some other reviews stating that they couldn't believe this woman because she gets into some pretty comedic situations but that literally only lasts for a bit until the romance takes off and that's where I find my issues.
Ok, I totally thought this dude was gonna be in actual space sending mail to our herione a la you've got mail style but no. It's stated pretty early in one of his letters that he has 16 weeks left in space and that letter was a year old. So quick math and you know that he's actually back on earth.
And the letters weren't even to this chick with bubblegum pink hair, they were to his ex gf who happens to hire pink hair to plan her engagement party to another guy and accidentally sends the video letters to her planner thru cloud because we all know that happens so often.
Anyways, I wasn't a fan of the whole ex plotline especially with later events and uncalled for drama towards the end.
I was a fan of the Mexican astronaut rep. (Not own voices) and the quirky nature to everything that is our power couple.
Also, last note but these parents of these two love birds....yeah they suck.

Received an advanced reader copy from valentine pr for an honest review.

And I knew I was going to love this book from the cover alone. And baby it didn't disappoint.

This book made me feel seen in ways I hadn't thought of.

Its a sweet and hilarious love story. Where Hallie Goodman is a dreamer, hard working but people pleaser. When planning for an event she find videos of a gorgeous astronaut. And like any nosy woman watched and fell in love.

who would think she would meet him at her event.

I absolutely loved watching them love and encourage each other through life's hardships. It really made putting the book down extremely hard.

As this was the first time reading this author . I can say it definitely will not be the las

This book was too long and I was not happy with one character not being honest with the other. It just missed the mark for me. Loved that the character was a an astronaut though - that was cool.

Samantha Young’s Much Ado About You was one of my favorite romance reads from 2021, so I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy of her latest novel, A Cosmic Kind of Love. I was intrigued by the unique premise of an astronaut and an event planner falling for each other after secretly watching each other’s digital diary entries and couldn’t wait to see how Young would work her magic to bring this unlikely couple together.

The story follows Hallie Goodman, a successful event planner who is planning the wedding of Darcy, a New York socialite whose ex-boyfriend Chris happens to be an astronaut. While exchanging information about the wedding plans, Darcy accidentally forwards Hallie a folder full of personal videos that Chris had recorded for Darcy while he was on his last space mission. Even though she knows it’s wrong, once Hallie starts watching them, she can’t stop. She loves listening to his soothing voice as he describes what it’s like to be in space. He shows a vulnerable side of himself that Hallie finds herself very attracted to and she can’t stop thinking about him and rewatching the videos every chance she gets. She decides to record a video of herself to send to him, and although disappointed when it bounces back as undeliverable, she decides she likes to record her own personal thoughts in this way and continues to send them even if they’re not really going anywhere. Unbeknownst to Hallie, however, Chris is receiving them, and just as she was so drawn to his messages, he finds himself equally drawn to hers and begins trying to figure out how to meet her in person. Darcy’s wedding of course is the perfect opportunity…

I loved these two characters so much! They’re just so well drawn and complex, with layer upon layer that make them both seem so realistic. Hallie is a bit of an underdog, dealing with verbal abuse from parents and an ex who belittles her as a “party girl” because her job is to plan events. Her ex even goes so far as to tell her she isn’t good enough and that he’s embarrassed that she plans parties for a living. Chris is dealing with issues of his own, still trying to adjust to life back on Earth and trying to decide what he wants to do next, all the while dealing with an overly demanding father who constantly berates him for not having a clear direction for his life yet. It was impossible not to root for Hallie and Chris to find their way to each other, or at least to find their path forward and get away from the toxic relationships in their lives.

I also loved the premise of having the two of them meet in person for the first time while each already knew so much about the other because of those personal videos. Secretly knowing so much about each other added a quiet tension to their in-person meeting that really elevated the scene for me to so much more than your typical meet-cute in a romcom. The scenes where they each finally had to each confess they had watched the videos impacted me in the same way. I loved that they were able to be so open with one another and that a relationship between them brought them the love and support they had both been missing in their lives.

A Cosmic Kind of Love is the perfect blend between heartwarming, swoony romance and intense family drama that will not only have you rooting for the main characters to get together but also cheering for them both to finally tell off their toxic family members.

When I first started A Cosmic Kind of Love, I was immediately intrigued by how Hallie and Chris met. I’ve read a lot of romance books and “wedding planner falls in love with bride’s ex-boyfriend through video diaries to bride” is definitely a new premise for me. I liked that it wasn’t the cookie cutter “brother’s best friend” or “childhood friends” trope but rather something original. I also liked that the descriptions of Hallie and Chris were unique (in a good way). One of my favorite parts was the way Chris responded to Darcy after she said Hallie wasn’t extraordinary. This book managed to deal with gender, race and class issues - but all in a subtle, unforced way that is rare in fiction these days. That being said, there were definitely parts of this book that moved rather slowly and I think the conflict between them toward the end of the book felt forced. I also thought the food poisoning at the end was an odd choice? But overall, I thought the book was cute and I learned some facts about astronauts that I previously didn’t know.

My Thoughts:
I loved the way Hallie and Christopher met in this one as it was super cute and getting to see the crushes before they ever met was adorable and helped with the insta-love vibes.

Hallie is a pushover people pleaser and I related to her character almost too much for my liking when it felt like moments of seeing myself through Hallie and how I have allowed people in my life to treat me like garbage just as Hallie has.

I also loved how real both characters were and how they both had struggles to overcome and that it wasn’t one sided where one character needed saving.

🌶steam: 3/5

this was like a cute romance, with a unique premise. it wasn’t my absolute favorite since the ending felt a little drawn out and i’m not a fan of jealousy and miscommunication being used as a plot device but other than that it was a fun time.

the vibes:
-hallie is a successful event planner but struggled with feeling inadequate and can be a pushover
- chris is an astronaut that has some daddy issues
-an unusual but original meet cute
-dual pov
-friends to lovers
-groveling
-character growth
-mexican america rep but i believe it’s not own voices

Have you ever been in love at first sight, but first sight is through a screen and not in person? Hallie, an event planner, is planning a wonderful wedding for Darcy, an environmental lawyer, and her fiance, a French artist. She asks both parties to send her inspiration so she can clash the two together.

Little did she know that when Darcy sent her information that she would send private video chats from her ex-boyfriend, Captain Christopher Ortiz while he was in space on a mission. Being curious, Hallie opens one of the videos and is startled that she was watching something so private, but she couldn’t keep her eyes off of Chris. So what does Hallie do? She decides to come clean to Chris and make her own video diaries and apologizes for watching these videos that she has watched over and over again.

Chris has a person from NASA bounce the emails so they are sent as email address not found. Chris then tells her to forward them to him anyways and just like Hallie he can’t keep his eyes off this woman with pink hair.

These two finally meet and you can tell that this book is going to be full of romance and secrets. They start as friends and fall for each other in person as well, but not is all as it seems.

This story has its ups and downs. It will make you laugh and fall for these two characters hard. I enjoyed reading A Cosmic Kind Of Love and getting to know each character. I did fall in love with this book. I hope you do too!
