Short synopsis: Hallie is an event planner planning the wedding of the season and stumbles across video messages from Captain Chris Ortiz. When she spots him at an engagement party sparks fly (or should I say stars).

My thoughts: I loved the personal growth each of the characters went through in this. There were definitely dysfunctional family drama on both sides, and they learned to rely on each other to overcome some of that difficulty and helped each other stand up for themselves.

This felt a little too long, and I’d hoped for more banter with the video messages. It was a little too much “love at first sight” with some definite miscommunication which was worked out nicely in the end.

Overall cute romance with some fun banter. Cute characters who weren’t your average romance hotty heartthrob and swoon worthy gal, and some great side character friends.

Read if you love:
* Astronauts and space
* Love at first sight
* Multiple POV
* Independent woman

A light, fun romance, with just enough mixups and secrets to keep readers on their toes, waiting for HEA.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book! As a Florida native, I rather enjoyed all the references to NASA and being an astronaut. The characters were fantastic. The way their characteristics and physical traits were described allowed me to visually see them as I read AND made me feel like I even knew them. I do have to admit that the beginning took me a few chapters to really be hooked but then I couldn't step away from it. I loved the plot and many of the scenes had me literally laughing out loud. Samantha Young's style of writing is one that I really did enjoy. Though romantic comedies can tend to be a bit predictable, A Cosmic Kind of Love had plot twists I didn't anticipate. I would strongly recommend this book!

This book was disappointing. The main character, Hallie, is a pink-haired party planner in New York City who struggles with balancing her hard job and being triangulated by her divorced toxic parents. This is very clear because all of these things are mentioned very often. It was irritating to me how often characters in the book would harshly comment on Hallie's pink hair considering that she lives in New York City and assuming this book is set in 2022. Would anyone actually care about that? Additionally, it was profoundly irritating to me how often she was harshly judged for being "just a party planner". I did not understand how that was to be the object of ridicule when it is a hard job that requires skill, talent, and dedication. Thirdly, I did not enjoy how " ridiculous " she was supposed to be as a character. I struggled to find the humor in the awkward situations she told others that she got into because they did not seem to align with her personality in conversation so it felt forced.

Captain Christopher Ortiz has been on a trip to the moon for NASA and his social media went viral when he returned because of his good looks. The book mentions how great his rear end is repetitively. He initially became an astronaut in honor of his brother who tragically died. However, it is not very clear on how he died. His mother also tragically passed previous to when the book timeline takes place but we do not find out until much later in the book with a brief comment of what caused her untimely death. I felt that if each of those had been expanded on a little more we could have had more character depth. It felt that there was a lot of filler, especially when the narrative switches to him. Furthermore, it was frustrating that he was allowed to be jealous of any male attention on Hallie, however, she was not allowed to be jealous of other women.

I would not recommend this book for readers who have pink hair, toxic parents, struggle with body image issues, jealousy, or are party planners. I had initially looked forward to this new book from Samantha Young as I had enjoyed a couple of her books from the On Dublin Street series. Unfortunately, this one was not as enjoyable.

I’ve been excited for this one since it was announced last year. I loved Much Ado About You and have been meaning to check out more books by Samantha Young.

I loved the video diaries between Hallie and Christopher and the NASA elements! They seemed drawn together from the very beginning and their relationship seemed very natural to me. I liked their transition from working together, to friends, to partners. It might have been awkward that Hallie was planning his ex’s wedding, but they seemed to do okay with it. This was steamier than I expected but it seemed to fit Chris and Hallie. I was a little frustrated with Chris and the third act breakup but I understand why it happened. Chris needed to see Darcy and his father for their true selves.

I thought the epilogue’s story placement was a little awakened, but otherwise I really enjoyed this and am excited to read more of Young’s books.

Hallie is an event planner who accidentally sees some video messages that Captain Christopher Ortiz recorded for his (now ex-) girlfriend when he was on the International Space Station. That ex-girlfriend (Darcy) is now engaged to someone else, for whom Hallie is planning a big engagement party. Hallie, feeling super guilty about violating Chris' privacy, sends him a video apologizing and explaining. He asks his IT contact at NASA to make it look like it bounced, and so Hallie believes her messages are going nowhere, but Chris actually sees them. He's intrigued enough to go to Darcy's engagement party just to meet Hallie, who immediately comes clean and apologizes (thinking he doesn't know that she's seen his videos). He hires Hallie to plan a party for him and they become friends (who are super attracted to one another). It takes him almost 2/3 of the book to admit to her that he saw her videos (which I found annoying), but at least he does it before they try to move past the friend zone. I did like Hallie and Chris, both of whom are dealing with various relatable family issues, but this just didn't completely zing for me. I felt like Chris was a bit of a dumb jerk at times, and that he was forgiven way too easily. Overall, a solid contemporary romance, but probably not one I'll revisit.

Two people. An event planner, Hallie, and a NASA pilot/astronaut, Chris, happen to cross paths after a fateful accident of Hallie watching Chris’s videos that were meant for someone else. What will happen when she decides to respond? They grow a connection through e-mail, but what would it take for them to survive after all they’ve been through…together?

Okay, so at first- I wasn’t sure if I would like this. The plot seemed mildly intriguing, and I was afraid for little conflict. But it turned itself around on me! I was hooked! (Not a fan of the almost Insta-love I assumed was happening but it was tolerable)
I loved Hallie, and all her strengths & weaknesses! She was adorable & quirky! As far as Chris, he was a character I didn’t think I’d like, but his grief & feelings of needing to find out what he really wanted stuck with me.

Overall I enjoyed this. Thanks to Netgalley & Berkeley Publishers for this ARC in exchange for my review!

I was having a hard time putting my thoughts together for this book. Other than saying it was a cute read and leaving it at that, I thought I would break my review into smaller pieces. Here we go!

The concept: There was something about the blurb of this book that called to me. I liked the idea of two people getting to know each other and falling in love over video diaries. It worked well in Chris and Hallie's situation and created a unique romance.

The characters: Chris and Hallie were lovable. They both had some issues with their parents that they could commiserate over. Hallie was a little insecure and a people pleaser. I could identify with her. Chris was a great guy -- even when he irritated me at one point. For someone so smart, he sure was dumb in that moment. Chris and Hallie complimented each other well. They had chemistry and their texts were fun.

Their friends and families: Hallie's parents were too much. I felt for her. Chris' dad was horrible, and I wasn't a fan of his ex Darcy. I did love Hallie's friends and co-workers and Chris' aunt. Those characters were great support systems for them. While Hallie's and Chris' parents were a lot to deal with, they added some great moments in the story.

The conflict(s): Honestly, there were probably too many conflicts in this book. Just when I thought things were happening and then would wrap up, another little or big problem popped up for Chris and Hallie. There was a lot of drama at the end. I wish it had been a little more combined or just really the one big one.

Overall thoughts: I enjoyed reading this book. It was light, fun, and just slightly angsty toward the end.

Hallie and Chris really do have a special kind of cosmic connection (no spoilers) and this delightful, heart-warming, soul-pumping romance by Samantha Young will prove that opposites, indeed, do attract. The story takes off like a shooting star and leaves you feeling the warmth of the sun...with some sizzle. Give me a fan! I melted as I read– lovable characters and a story that keeps you turning the pages included. Five shiny stars.

Told from dual points of view, this pen pal-like romance is full of compelling language that I was intrigued by from the first pages. It reads quickly yet somehow the story's pacing (not the actual text) felt a bit slow to me. All in all, it was a fun and cute romance with an absolutely adorable grand gesture of a HEA, trust me.

LOVED A Cosmic Kind of Love. Samantha Young is so good at romance; making it cute and relatable. Her characters are never a miss for me. Hallie was just so precious and I absolutely adored Chris. These were some great characters in a wonderful story.

Thanks Netgalley for this book in exchange for my review.

So basically I LOVED this book very cute. I loved Hallie and her Pink hair and sweet personality. Chris was just so sweet and really wanted to help her and him her, which I loved. I felt their love for each other. I felt for Hallie with her need to please. I unfortunately suffer with the same. I just wanted to shake her parents.

It's hard to review and not give it away, but this book is a sweet yet sexy book. I wish I had a Chris of my own. He was so protective of her I just swooned.

The only true problem I had is I really would have loved a epilogue, I want to know what they doing now.

My whole life I'd done the chasing, the people-pleasing. No one had ever chased me. No one had ever prioritized me the way I was willing to prioritize them.

This poor soul of a book had the unfortunate circumstance of being read in a year where 95% of the time I’ve rated every book 5 stars. That is to say, I’ve had almost a full year of perfection and this book was just not…that.

It was cute, sweet, and a typical romance, but I just never truly got into it fully. I can’t say it was bad, but I can’t say it was extremely well-written either….and, again, I don’t think it was poorly written. This book was just maddeningly average and I didn’t feel much depth and I am honestly scrabbling for what to say. And while I sometimes don’t mind quick romances with a hero I really enjoy (and I really really truly did like him), sometimes it doesn’t work out that I fall as easily for it as I normally would. That is the case here, unfortunately.

A tad too predictable, a bit lacking in side characters I cared about, and just…I didn’t believe it, no matter HOW choked up a few of the hero’s quotes made me. And that’s the part that really stinks is there were some great things mentioned about self-worth and embracing who you are, about loving someone for who they are and not what they DO. There was a lot of good to unpack here, just not a lot to follow it up…and that’s where, unfortunately, the story fell short for me.

So while this book will likely appeal to a lot of people, I just couldn’t fall for it. Maybe a different time, maybe a different place in my life…but I just highly doubt it. If you’re looking for a cute, fun, quick read, then I highly recommend it for that. Otherwise, if you perhaps want more to happen, maybe save this for a rainy day.

It was a very cute romcom that was quite fast paced and super entertaining with adorable and fun characters. I can’t wait enough for it to be out and about in the world so that I can’t force almost everyone I know to read, love and absolutely enjoy it.

Samantha Young doesn't disappoint, and this book scratched the space-romance itch I'd been suffering from and with so much heart that I re-read it immediately after finishing it. While it's not as steamy as her Fight of Flight (which is chef's kiss), the heart of this book was absolutely joyful.

A Cosmic Kind of Love is a cute, stand-alone rom com featuring an astronaut and party planner. The premise is a bit far-fetched (even for a rom com). A party planner accidentally (and then completely not accidentally) watches the videos an astronaut sent his then-girlfriend from space. He then watches the video diaries that she records, thinking that no one is on the other end of the email she sends them to. Both characters are intrigued with the other, and sparks fly when they contrive to meet. Add in more than a dash of family drama on both sides, a potentially jealous ex, and some serious soul searching, and you've got a cute romp with some bite.

It took me a while to get invested in this book, most likely because I found the premise so ridiculous. But once the characters actually met in person, I enjoyed it a lot more. The plot line focusing on Hallie's divorced parents especially resonated with me. Over all I found it a cute, and rather standard, rom-com.

Oh my heart!! This latest rom com from Samantha Young is OUT OF THIS WORLD! I truly couldn't have loved it anymore. Brimming with heart and swoon, this is the love story of Hallie, a NYC event planner and Chris, a retired astronaut. Brought together by happenstance, it was a joy to read about these charming yet flawed characters, their careers and their families. Their chemistry practically sparked off the page and of course the steam was smoldering. Young did a fantastic job bringing these characters to life through her writing and balancing the feels and swoon with just enough conflict to keep the plot moving forward. Their romance was truly written in the stars and I'm confident this will be one of my favorite romances of 2022.

Thank you so much to Berkley and Netgalley for my copy.

This was super cute. I liked how the main characters got to know each other before they even talked. Fun premise from an author I've previously given 5 star reviews to.

A Cosmic Kind of Love by Samantha Young (pub date Oct 18, arc from NetGalley & @berkleypub)

" It seemed we were drawn to each other like binary stars. It was addictive and disorienting."

I don't know what tropes to categorize this one, but the big thing about it is that both characters struggle with people pleasing. The FMC especially, I almost didn't like her character, but it's that I'm maybe only 5% a people pleaser. Young did an excellent job with their backstories and family drama to show the good/bad of that characteristic as well as growth. The couple also worked through relationship issues in an uncommonly realistic, mature, and helpful way. Just a few open door romance scenes.

Well written, great character development, fun drama, and seriously, this book is somehow both entertaining and helpful.
