I know they say don't judge a book by its cover but the cover sold me. Its insanely gorgeous.
The story matched it sooo perfectly! I love a second chance romance and this was just a masterpiece! The level of sexual tension had me wanting to turn the fan on! The ending was just so spicy and amazing! I will be purchasing this book for my home library!

I love a second chance romance although 99.9 % of these are based on some misunderstanding. which I don't like typically love. there is 100% a right way to do a misunderstanding trope And this story did it right - they didn't let the misunderstanding go until the absolute end of the book. and once it was out there it didn't resurface they were both adults about it.

I enjoyed many things about Charlie and Damion - they were so real and relatable. They had real-life issues that they worked on - there is a high therapy presence and I love to read about it.

a cute quick love story

Thank you, Netgalley, for sending me an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Unconditional: A Love Story is a very heartwarming second chance romance. Charli and Damien had a summer fling and, when he said he was ready to make a bigger commitment, she rejected him. Two years later, they meet again with a chance to start over.

This was a very soft and well written romance novel. I loved the cultural representation without feeling like it was written for white people, which is something that happens a lot and makes me feel very frustrated. It was really beautiful to see how important the community is for Damien and how much Charli values that. Also, the characters were very captivating, funny and sexy. The spicy scenes were really hot and the sexual tension between the characters was great. I loved the way they describe each other and how they remember vividly everything that happened that one summer.

I really wanted to love this book. I was so invested at the beginning, but I was a little frustrated along the way. I loved that we got a MC with abandonment issues and I wanted to read more about how that affected her relationship with other people and the way she saw herself. I think all of the issues presented were approached in a really shallow way. We didn’t get to truly see their repercussions. Almost all of Charli’s scenes were in Dame’s presence and vice-versa, so we didn’t get a lot of character development. Also, I wanted to know what exactly happened when they were together for the summer. I feel like it wasn’t really a second chance romance, because we didn’t get much information about their past relationship. They’re cute together, but that’s it.

Overall it was a fun read, because the characters are funny and likable, but I wish we could see more development of their story.

Oh wow!!!

I literally finished this book in less than a day! I couldn’t put it down! What a beautiful love story!! The author really took their time helping the reader understand the dynamics of Charli and Damien’s relationship. The misunderstanding, the connection and their growth, it was as if I had a side line seat to their love! I truly enjoyed that their wasn’t any outside drama. The story line just focused on them and their growth to one another! I look forward to more from Shon!

Such a good love story! I thought I knew where this was gonna go when I first started reading it. But, as both perspectives started to come out and the tension grew, the story just got better and better! Very cute. I hope more people find this book and enjoy it as much as I did

Unconditional: A Love Story is a quick and cute second chance romance between Charli and Damian. Two years ago, they had a summer fling that ended in Charli rejecting Damian’s request for something more. They reunite and start to work together on Damian’s start up charity. Their romance is slowly reignited as they work together and through their old problems. I liked both characters and the Haitian culture. My only complaint is that I feel like the book could have been more fleshed out. I feel like it skipped around a bit. It mentioned some deep issues, but they weren’t fleshed out. Overall a decent read.

Overall, this book was relatively well written and the perfect length for what it watned to do. Some turns of phrase didn't fit well and they rubbed me the wrong way which took me out of the book. The pacing was also a little whack- I never felt like the relationship was strong enough for them to move as fast as they did, especially with Charli having commitment issues.

THINGS I LIKED:
The cover is gorgeous!
I liked living inside Charli's head- she's a really fun character.
I love the way the break-up scene was written.
The descriptions and imagery are so vivid.
I like the set-up, especially since in this one, the girl is more the player/has commitment issues.
I really emjoy how Charli has an important therapist figure that is actually healthy for her and addresses her problems- we first get to see her acting in unhealthy ways and then they get named later on too.

THINGS I DIDN'T LIKE:
The exposition (for example immmediately calling Charli an Ivy League dropout and ex-socialite) could've been more subtle and gradual.
I didn't really enjoy Damian's perspective as much.
Some phrases were way too formal for the vibe of the book, like "in summation" which I didn't like.
There was a lot of repetition of words back to back which bothered me.
I wish we had seen Charli and Damian's interaction when they were on the run together instead of hearing about it later. I didn't need as much detail about the soccer scene, but I wanted more foundation for their relationship because I felt like I was only being told how much they liked each other, not why. Same thing with Charli's relationship with her parents. There was so much potential for this book if it had been slightly longer to elaborate on a lot of things.
