When students at Jefferson University start to go missing, Detective Richard Nolan is brought back from retirement. Will the cases from his past come back to haunt him? Only time will tell, but time is something he does not have. Hunting down a serial killer is hard enough. Hunting down a serial killer who gets into his mind and unlocks his memories is even harder. Along with a team of detectives, Richard vows to capture this lunatic before another person disappears.

The Badge is a suspenseful story of love and loss, with a little bit of humor mixed in. Walk alongside Richard Nolan and see where the journey takes him.
A gripping thriller that starts on simmer and builds to a boil. Dazzlingly clever, twisting and constantly surprising. An unputdownable rollercoaster of a read.

The Badge is an interesting story . The end definitely leads to another book. I wish the conversations had been more illuminating.

“The Badge” (this is the first book in a series), by S. R. Leinbeck (ASIN B09XKQF4Z8), Publication Date: 9 Apr 2022, earns four stars.

The book’s principal recurring character is retired detective Richard Nolan, who is called back to active service so track down and stop a serial killer preying on college coeds. He accomplishes that with the aid of his fellow detectives, police trainees, and close friends. In doing so, he also solves a decades old series of murders that he and his late partner worked. Ultimately, he finds the killer, but doesn’t realize that in doing so, there’s more to do. In the midst of this, there’s several love stories and some naturally delivered humor. It’s a fast-paced and enjoyable read.

I am not sure if this is a short story, a novella, or an excerpt from a novel. The writer leaves us with red herrings making it almost impossible to discern the ending of this mystery. The protagonist falls in love with his friend's (deceased) wife...so there is a love story inserted into this murder mystery. There are characters we like; there are characters we just don't relate to...this book was sent to me by Netgalley for review, land I look forward to reading more about these characters.

Well-written start to what could be an excellent story, the pace is quick and the characters easy to like.

Good book! Kind of short but still really good! This book had suspense, intrigue, action and a good who done it! The storyline was interesting and kept me glued to my kindle! It definitely got the heart pumping! Even though it was short I still felt like I got the whole story, but it was left in a somewhat cliffhanger! Or better a continuation! So I'll keep my eyes out for the next book! I will definitely recommend reading this book! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!
