This was a really good idea and I'm definitely the target audience. The author's love for the era and the music is in no doubt, but I felt the storytelling could have been crafted a little better.

Darby feels like somewhat of a failure and is desperate to make some changes to her life – little does she know she is on the precipice of travelling back in time to the tune of a cracking soundtrack…

Time travel and 90’s music – what’s not to love? A well-paced and entertaining journey with a surprisingly moving thread exploring regret and second chances. Overall a really interesting premise, particularly recommended to any music fans who are in the market for a good helping of melodious nostalgia.

Thank you to Net Galley and Atmosphere Press for providing an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a book for an American 40 year olds who had the privilege to be young in the 90s. I am 40 too, but I'm from Europe and a lot of cultural and musical references were completely unknown to me. And there was so much info dump. So, so much. The author is obviously full of music knowledge and he wanted to show it, but to an average music fan, it felt too much. I didn't like the characters, couldn't connect with them because of the emotionless writing style.

Sometimes, all I want is to close my eyes and go back to 1995. I would be who I am now--well, maybe 20 years younger, but still in 1995. I would go to every show I wasn't old enough to get into to. I would see every band that never came to my home state. I would make out with every lead singer that I dreamed out making out with.

Darby is NOT having a mid-life crisis. She is however reliving her life from 1996, the year that she left her job as a music critic and her true love, Lina.

Now, she has 90 days to decide if she wants to go back to present day....or to stay and change everything.

I really enjoyed this look back at one of the greatest decades. Maybe I'm just a GenX'r longing for a bit of my own youth again. Maybe I just want to be in a sweaty bar with a grungey guitar and sweaty dudes. And that's okay. This book reminded me of that time, and that's why I loved it.

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.

I really loved the premise of being immersed in all things 90’s. I also was excited for the time travel aspect and what things my change in a cool new way or awesome concerts and people would be met. So, when the MC, Darby, basically just tags along with meh friends and hooks up with different girls that all seem the same I was disappointed and really lost. Umm, why go in the past when she could have done the same exact stuff in the present? Besides the music there wasn’t much else related to the nineties. I expected to be surrounded by talk about Walkmans and VCRs and Gap clothing but I didn’t get much of that. The book didn’t make me care about Darby and I really wish it had. I would say it’s not a bad read but I guess it wasn’t what I was expecting.

Thanks to NetGalley and the Publisher for the ARC.

I really wanted to love this book. It sounded tailor-made for me—time travel, 90s music, Chicago, even Lounge Ax, where I used to go see shows. But, I had a really hard time connecting with the characters, and I found myself wanting more time travel stuff, rather than just 90s music nostalgia. I wish this novel had developed a bit more story about the time travel situation (the how was pretty fascinating) and more on the reality of moving between the 2020s back to the 90s, other than just seeing shows and missing a handful of services like instacart and amazon prime.

Anyway, the 90s alternative refs were fun and the premise was creative. I just wish there was more. Thanks Net Galley for the ARC!

I Love anything to do with time travel, so when I saw that this book was about just that, set in the 90’s based around the great music we had out of the decade I had to read it. I was not disappointed. It helps that the main character was basically my age, I had an even greater connection because of that. If you love the ‘90, especially the music you will want to read this book.

Ninety Days in the 90’s
By Andy Frye

Awww man, this one was a bit disappointing for me!

I was so hyped to go back to one of my fave times, but sadly this just didn’t do it for me.

I felt that the characters were a bit “choppy” and a little all over the place for me.

I did really enjoy the talk about all of the music, and the fact that the main character runs an old Vintage LP store ( I love spending time in those stores)…but it just felt like there was something missing in this story for me. I couldn’t connect to it, and that made me sad as I was a 14 year old in 1996, and was looking forward to experiencing that again through this story.
