The epitome of I didn’t see that coming. Some of these characters had no redeeming qualities. & others I loved.

This was a well written psychological thriller. This is my first by this author and I’ll definitely be reading more.

It starts off strong and builds momentum with each chapter. Billy is heading out for a reunion with his friends. He’s running late and has had too much to drink. Does he do the responsible thing and pull over until he sobers up? Well of course not! I loved listening to this. I did have a bit of trouble in the beginning keeping the characters and their relationships straight. But then settled right in for a thrilling ride!

With a title like this you just know you need to watch your back. A group of 6 university friends have a reunion in a remote cabin to celebrate a birthday. These friends have a whole lot of history and carry a whole lot of baggage. There are secrets galore, betrayals, revenge, you name it! This was a fun, darkly humorous, and twisty read. I found the narrator to be a bit monotone at times, but it didn't take away from the story. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

This was a quick but fun read!

The perfect balance of unlikable characters and dark humor.

I would recommend this one to anyone who has read her previous books and enjoyed them.

Secrets, betrayal and the ultimate revenge are a perfect combination in this suspenseful, twisty thriller. Who can you trust when everyone has something to hide and the truth is veiled in lies. The past comes back with a vengeance and no one is safe when old debts are finally paid. With friends like these, you better watch your back! Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for my audiobook.

With Friends Like These was a great read by Keri Beevis. A group of friends goes to Scotland for a reunion of sorts. Billy Maguire was on his way when he stopped for a few drinks. After he ran over a pedestrian. The man is alive when Billy puts him in the back of his car with the pan to leave him outside the nearest hospital. When the man died, Billy panicked and drives to the reunion to beg his friends for help. The group finds out that the man is a notorious criminal Dougie McCool. They also found a lot of cash. But dangerous men are looking for him and will do anything to find him. I enjoyed reading this book and can't wait to read more by the author.

Friends to the very end!

When friends plan a reunion in Scotland at an Airbnb, they get a lot more than they bargained for when their friend Billy shows up drunk as a skunk with a dead body in tow.

The moment Billy strikes the pedestrian with his car on a deserted road, he panics. Not knowing what to do, he stuffs the body in the back seat of his car. Big mistake. Huge.

Upon arriving at the Airbnb, he asks all of his friends for help. They agree. REALLY?!?

Talk about decisions that have big consequences! Turns out that the dead body is that of a notorious criminal, whose “family” is already on the lookout.

A wild and crazy novel with a lot of twists and turns. With Friends Like These was a bit over the top for me, though it was highly entertaining if nothing else. I listened to the audio and was personally not a fan of the narrator, which may have taken away from my enjoyment. In this case, I think I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it.

With Friends Like These is a psychological thriller centered around a group of college friends who reunite for a birthday weekend in a cottage set in the middle of nowhere. It gives very creepy, atmospheric vibes but is pretty slow paced. I would have liked a bit more development of the friendships prior to the weekend to make the drama between them seem even more dramatic. I liked the ending a lot but wasn't very surprised by it because I felt there was massive amounts of foreshadowing leading up to it. I really liked the explanations for everything that happened but found them to be a bit convenient and predictable if I'm honest. This was just an okay thriller for me and I wouldn't say it was very gripping but was entertaining. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Seriously, I hope I never have friends like these. These ones are just awful. I can't imagine spending a weekend away with them.

This book is fast paced and very entertaining. It was interesting to figure out what was going to happen. The twists were very surprising. It was oddly satisfying seeing how some situations played out. I was very happy with the outcome.

Thanks Netgalley and publisher for the digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

With Friends Like These hit fitting title gold. This group of people is not only dysfunctional but actually toxic. The only thing worse than their friendship is their choice-making skills.

This thriller is very gritty and pretty much read as if Guy Ritchie had written the script for an episode of Law and Order. Although it wasn't what I expected, I think many people will like it. But if you, like me, were expecting a more psychological closed-circle thriller, I would say skip it.

What saved the book for me was Joshua Manning's narration. His pace definitely did the book great service.

With Friends Like These was one of those books that, by reading the synopsis, seemed like it had been done so many times before. Well let me tell you - it has NEVER been done this way! I was pleasantly surprised with this book. Lots of drama and twists! A fun, quick listen that I really enjoyed.

Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and author for an advanced audio copy of this book for my honest review.

3.5*
Billy is heading out for a reunion with his friends. He’s running late and has had too much to drink. Does he do the responsible thing and pull over until he sobers up? Well of course not! Then we wouldn’t have a book!🤣

In a drunken stupor, Billy continues his little joy ride down a secluded road, inevitably striking a pedestrian. Instead of calling the authorities or his friends, he stuffs this poor man into his car and continues on his merry way to the reunion! Wow Billy! Not the most brilliant move by any means! But it’s just that premise that grabbed me and I knew I had to listen to this audio.

I did have a bit of trouble in the beginning keeping the characters and their relationships straight. But then settled right in for a thrilling ride!

If you enjoy a tense psychological thriller…you’re in for a treat! And the narrator did a great job to add to the suspense.

3.5 stars and not rounding up.

I am listening to the audiobook. Joshua Manning did a good job narrating. I was grabbed on the first page. Once the story starts to arc and the twist is coming, the author stops all the built up momentum taking the story to the mundane past of several characters, and flat lining.

I feel as if the author cheated me. After going from the past to present in an obligatory hostage-like scene, boredom sets in. Imagine riding to the top of a rollercoaster, slowly, hearing every creak, watching the ground get further and further away and then being told. Okay folks, rides over, you'll have to walk down.

There are a few secret grudges revealed in the last third, there were a couple unrealistic futile attempts at maintaining control of the situation all of which I had little interest in.

The author can write, and has an imagination that I can appreciate. The final act saved the book for me. Life isn't fair, however, sometimes we get what we deserve.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for accepting my request to read and review With Friends Like These. I will look for other works by Keri Beevis.

Synopsis: Billy Maguire, on his way to Scotland for a reunion with his university friends, stops for a few drinks en route. Then, on the deserted roads leading to the isolated location, he runs over a pedestrian. The man is alive. But the man dies—and Billy panics. He begs his friends for help. There is tension within the group at first, but when the dead man’s ID reveals him to be a notorious criminal named Dougie McCool, they want to dispose of body. The only problem is that some dangerous men are looking for McCool—including his brother, who is willing to brutally exploit every vulnerability in this circle of friends to get what he wants. But will he succeed?

My Thoughts: This was a first time author for me, but it will not be my last. The narrator was amazing, the only thing I would like to have seen is a female and male narrator, it would have enhanced it. The characters were well developed, they were flawed (intentionally), had layers of depth, a mysterious aspect, and complicated relationships. Some of the characters were likable, while others I had this love/hate relationship with. The author’s writing style had layers of complexity, was thrilling, provided a sense of uneasiness, and was just brilliantly written. The author does a great job building the characters, having a twisty plot followed by other twists and just wrapped up in an amazing ending. There was a good amount of secrets, lies, betrayals, and resentments. The setting of this book worked so well, Scotland for a reunion with a dead body, what could go wrong?? I highly recommend you purchase this book that was released last month.

Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for this advance listener copy in exchange for my honest review.

I loved this book! This is my second book from Keri Beevis and, like the first one I read, The People Next Door, this one definitely delivered. And the ending was so satisfying. I found myself smiling conspiratorially a lot towards the end. All of the characters did despicable things, but a few of them did have redeeming qualities, which helped make the story relatable.

My one and only complaint about this audiobook is the narrator. It was just painful to listen to his monotonous voice. Honestly, this would have been a DNF because of the audio if the story hadn't been so gripping. My advice for this one is to get the print copy or you may end up missing out on a great book. 4.25 stars! I will definitely be seeking out more of her books!
