A dark thriller full of nail biting suspense. A group of friends get together in a remote location in Scotland to celebrate one of their birthdays. But on the way there Billy has an accident involving a stranger. This kicks off a string of unfortunate events when the brother of the stranger comes looking for him. The narrator was easy to follow along with.

This book was a quick read but nothing to write home about. It was good but now amazing. Still glad I read it though

I admittedly was not crazy about this book. The story was interesting, but I did not feel connected to any of the characters, There were a lot of layers that were revealed throughout the book between the characters, but I felt myself looking for more. I listened to the audiobook, and was looking forward to the Scottish lilt, and did not get that.

Story was ok. Several old friends get together for a weekend. Two have ulterior motives. Everyone gets caught in the middle. Setting was the best part of the story.

With friends like these… who needs enemies? This is one of those mysteries where you have a group of friends on a weekend trip to a secluded place… things go wrong right from the start. There are secrets and bad guys… I wasn’t sure if I’d like it at first, but I did. The second half was better than the first. Amelia, Jonah, Ross… Griffin, Billy, Nancy. 6 friends with a history. Someone dies… actually, two people die- but who is responsible? And then some thugs show up… what could go wrong?

I do recommend this one. At first I had a hard time connecting to the characters, but eventually it came together pretty well. 4⭐️

With Friends Like These by Keri Beevis

This is a story about 6 friends who come together as a reunion to celebrate a birthday. The story unfolds with each telling there part of the story it is filled with drama and making the reader wonder why this group even came together. There is some dark humor and a dead body.

With friends like these who needs friends right anyways the chapters are filled with so much twists and backstabbing one another oh what fun. Each seems to have their own set of secrets and how they handle their friend being dead and the constant wanting to one up each other. The story felt like a clue game gone wrong.

This is the first time reading this author and I would like to read other works from this author she did a great job with this story. She gave the read six unlikable characters put them in the same location and let them eat each other up and some how call them friends.

Thank you to Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for a free audio copy of the book for an honest review.

A group of old college friends are gathering for a birthday party/reunion. It’s a once tight group with copious hidden animosity that all comes rolling out in the course of this weekend.
It’s easy for the reader to do some head shaking as the personalities of the individuals are exposed and how they react as a group to an unexpected event that could have major consequences.
While they may have at onetime been a happy group, the years have sent them all in different directions and they are now quite ready to have their revenge……both planned and as the opportunity arises.
It’s quirky thriller that keeps you chuckling with disbelief at the chain of events and wondering what possibly could happen next.

This book kept the readers interest throughout. The use of multiple perspectives as well as flashbacks increased the interest and allowed the reader to learn more about each of the individual characters and their wants and motivations. It showed that most of the characters were extremely complex and neither good nor bad but instead complicated. It showed how complicated friendships can be as well as how you treat others will impact your life. It was a fun read with lots of surprises.

Thanks for an early copy of this book. I listened to it through audio. It was a good plot, but it wasn't very exciting for me. Thank you to the author and Netgalley for the opportunity. It was a 3 stars for me.

What would you do if an old friend showed up with a dead man that he hit on the side of the road in his car? But you then find out that he is a con man and has a bag full of money? Would you help get rid of the body or would you call the police? This is the situation that Billy puts his 5 University friends in when he shows up at a remote cabin his friends have reserved for a birthday weekend. But then things get even worse when someone shows up looking for the dead man. This was a crazy ride that was action packed right from the beginning. Good character background stories and lots of danger, secrets, and lies!

Thank you Net Galley and Keri Beevis for allowing me to listen to this ARC in exchange for my honest review!

Friends are endangered and loyalties are tested when a weekend getaway starts with an irresponsible but accidental death. Keri Beevis keeps the suspense coiled tightly and the reader guessing in this page-turning thriller. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

A good plot that invites you to examine friendships, loyalty, and the boundaries of both, as well as question the same. This was a listen for me and if I'm honest, I STRUGGLED with it, based on the narrator having a very monotone voice. I had to turn it off more than once during my commute to stay awake. That aside, I liked the story, characters, and plot.

Six former college friends head off to Scotland to spend a weekend reunion together in the woods. One of the friends accidentally hits a stranded motorist on the way in a drinking/driving situation. Someone suggests they bury the man or hide his body in some way. This is a thrill-ride of frenemies with deep, dark past secrets, and the sheer will they possess to best each other at every turn. Who can be trusted...with friends like these?

I'd like to thank Netgalley and the publisher, Bloodhound Books, as well as Dreamscape Media for providing me with the audiobook to With Friends Like These. I definitely recommend it! I'm interested in reading more from Keri Beevis after listening to this audiobook.

Bear with me. I went into this accepting that the plot is a bit far fetched and the criminal's name being McCool is just rediculous. But I loved Beevis' last book the People Next Door.

For thoee reasons, like Avengers Endgame, I'm accepting that Marvel can through Quantum in front of anything... including time travel because by Endgame you are on board or you aren't.

And I don't regret it. The characters are deliciously immoral. One tug on this fragile group of "friends" and what a mess of enemies. While some of it was past childish relationship axes that they were going to bury into eachother's backs? Some was much more sinister and you just don't see coming.

The narrator was great and each pov well labeled. But I still think it could've done better with multiple narrators.

#WithFriendslikethese by @keri.beevis is what I just finished listening to as insomnia set in after a middle of the night awakening. This story was a great thriller! A set of friends from uni get together for a birthday weekend years later at a remote cottage in Scotland. What could go wrong with #friendslikethese ??? Umm, apparently quite a bit! One if them drives drunk there and on the dark road hits a person walking by the side of the road. And things go south from there. The construct that made this so enjoyable for me is that the story is told from the alternating perspectives of the five friends & the things you learn from listening to those individual inner thoughts and schemes is why reading is soooo much better than film! I love knowing the secrets & thoughts of the characters! And just when you think you know somebody...smh guess what: YOU DONT!!! As the stakes raise to be life-threatening, they all turn on one another, each holding & telling a peice of the story. Ohhh and the comeuppance was so sweet!
Check out this friendsssss to enemies type thriller & the enjoy the story and the narrator's sexy #ScottishAccent #joshuamanning!
Many thanks to @dreamscape_media for the review copy of this audiobook!

I feel like I’ve read this book before. The concept anyway. It was good. I did not care for the narrators voice though. It kept my interest and was suspenseful enough.

4.5⭐️
Seriously I hope someone makes this a movie or TV series. This was messed up!!! Do you have real friends? Friends you trust? I hope so.
Something really bad happens at the opening of this book and choices must be made. All of them have to choose! What would you do? Stay? Run? Lie?
This was a great mystery thriller that shocked me and entertained me until the end. Wow! I didn’t see that coming.
I chose to listen to this book on audio and Joshua Manning narrated it. He was great. I highly recommend listening to this.
Thanks Dreamscape Media via Netgalley.

LOCK-IN THRILLER! With Friends Like These, Who Needs Enemies.

Keri Beevis takes readers down a dark, twisty path teeming with secrets, obsession, greed, and REVENGE —WITH FRIENDS LIKE THESE.

Griffin King invites the old university gang together for a weekend at a luxury remote AirBNB with a hot tub in Scotland off the beaten track for his birthday—Amelia, Nancy, Ross, Jonah. Billy, and Griffin. A kind of reunion.

Six of them. Many SECRETS. Rewind the clock fourteen years. A lot of history. A lot of baggage. Unresolved issues. We soon learn about each of the six.

For the next few days, it would be party central. The group has not seen one another in two years. Lots of catching up to do. Everyone is there at the house but Billy (age 33). They know he is the least reliable of the bunch.

The others flew, but Billy decided to drive since funds were low. He is almost there. Remote fields and forest. He has the road to himself. The unthinkable happens. Listening to Crash on the radio, tired, and drinking.

Caught up in the music, he misses a man walking down the center of the deserted road until the thud hits the car. OMG! Now what? Panic. The man is dead.

He placed the body in the car, would leave him at the nearest hospital, and drop him off. He cannot turn himself in since he was drinking. He cannot leave him here alone.

Instead, he decides to meet his friends first since he is running late. What will the friends say when he shows up with a dead body?

Now, my friends, this is where the multi-layered edge-of-of your-seat twists, turns, lies, and games begin! They are ALL guilty now.

You see, the man he just killed is a notorious criminal named Dougie McCool —someone is looking for him.

Cash (over $50K), a mask, and a knife are also found in his backpack. The friends vote and decide to get rid of the body and keep the money. The only problem is that some dangerous men are looking for McCool—including his brother. The latter is willing to brutally exploit every vulnerability in this circle of friends to get what he wants.

You see, there is more to this story. Why had Griffith planned this trip to get everyone to this remote location? Which friend can you trust? Which one will throw you under the bus?

Be careful when someone is out for REVENGE when you are locked in. Note to self: If someone invites you to a remote location for a reunion or vacation, DECLINE.

WOW! A mind-bender. With each page turn, there are unexpected dizzying jaw-dropping twists. This is the first book I have read by this author, and I look forward to reading more.

An unputdownable thriller with an explosive beginning, ending, and shocking twists in between. Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell and Ruth Ware.

LOCK-INS: I have been reading many books about lock-ins lately. They are nerve-wracking and INTENSE. I am currently reading ARC Lisa Unger's Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six (10/6) and loving it- 50% in! Also, recommend The Guest House Robin Morgan-Bentley (9/13).

What Locked-Room books have you read RECENTLY?

I enjoy all these new audiobooks by Dreamscape Media on NetGalley, which gives me a chance to listen to some top-notch titles and newfound authors. I listened to the audiobook by Joshua Manning, who delivered a riveting performance!

Thank you to #NetGalley and #DreamscapeMedia for an audio ARC to listen to, enjoy, and review.
