I initially had a difficult time getting into this book because of the strong accent of the narrator. However as the book progressed and the character personalities developed I really began to enjoy it.

This book is about a reunion of a group of friends ( I use that term loosely) from college that have a ton of baggage. Despite their history / baggage, they think it’s a good idea to go to a remote cabin for a vacation.

The problem is one of them hits somebody and brings the body back to the cabin. They don’t think anyone will look for the person that was hit, but they are wrong. The group's baggage and history of issues bubbles to the surface at the worst time. The group has to address their infinite issues, while they are fighting to survive.

The author was perfectly descriptive, not too wordy but gave enough to the reader so that it was easy to imagine the scenes as they unfolded.

This was a pretty good book that would be good as an audiobook or a regular read I definitely recommend checking it out.

A reunion with university friends in Remote Scotland sounds wonderful, doesn't it? A time to catch up, to celebrate a birthday, to reminisce about good times, and have some fun - what could go wrong???

Billy is on his way to the reunion, decides to start celebrating early. After stopping and enjoying a few drinks, he gets back in his car and hits a man. Billy puts the man in his car with plans of dropping him off outside of a hospital, but when the man dies, Billy freaks out. He's now in a boatload of trouble, but instead of doing the right thing, he drives to the reunion and asks his friends for help.

That's a BIG ask!

Then they find a mask, cash, and a knife. The man Billy hit is a criminal and if they had doubts before about helping Billy, they are now onboard. They will get rid of the body and keep the money.

They never thought about who would miss the dead man.

This was a fun one as they friends are quite the characters. They are an interesting lot, what you see may not always be what you get with this lot. The tension mounts, as the danger intensifies.

I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed the narrator. I thought he did a great job, but I also feel a female narrator would have been nice for the female characters in the book.

This one kept me on my toes. As I listened to the audiobook, things played out like a movie in my mind. I enjoyed learning more about the friends and their present and past histories together. The setting in this book was fantastic and added to the overall sense of unease in the book. A remote location, secrets and danger make for a riveting suspenseful read/listen.

This was my second book by Beevis and I can't wait to read what she writes next.

Tense, suspenseful and dark.

This book had me hooked from the description. It sounded so good - but then it just didn’t do it for me.

Now idk if it was the narrator or the story but it was pretty boring. It didn’t hold my attention, I found myself not even caring where the story went for the most part.

There were parts where I got sucked in, but then pretty quickly I’d be back to the land of boredom just waiting for it to be over.

That makes this hard to rate, but I’m going with 2.5 rounded up. Just not for me. It happens!

Thanks NetGalley for the audio arc!

Old friends have their hopes of a fun reunion dashed when one of them shows up with a body in the trunk, and the situation only gets worse when they realize that people are looking for the guy,

This one started out strong. I loved the premise and it started out strong. It dragged a bit in the middle, but I think that was at least partially a narrator problem rather than a storyline problem. While it does pick back up, it didn't quite grab and hold my attention the way the first part did.

I would try more from this author, but probably in print or maybe with a different narrator.

I listened to this in audiobook format. I love books that involve the interwoven relationships of friends, peers or family. With Friends Like These is about a group of friends celebrating Griffin's birthday. Griffin rented a house in the woods and invited his friends for a weekend together. Griffin's ex finace is invited, the screw up of the group is invited, the nerd of the group is invited and a few others. The screw up of the group gets into trouble before he even arrives to the cabin and ends up dragging his pals into his mess. I really enjoyed this audiobook. I love the accent of the narrator. I was in full suspense mode while listening and did not expect the ending. This was a fantastic listen. I highly recommend.

With Friends Like These started off a little slow and I wondered for a long while how long it would take to get to the main conflict within the story. Six former college friends head off to Scotland to spend a weekend reunion together in the woods near a loch. One of the friends accidentally hits a stranded motorist on the way in a drinking/driving situation. Someone suggests they bury the man or hide his body in some way. They find cash, a mask, and a knife in the near-dead man's belongings. And this is when all the questions begin to surface. This is a thrill-ride of frenemies with deep, dark past secrets, and the sheer will they possess to best each other at every turn. I'd say that's the main flaw in the majority of the characters in this story. Someone in their group set this entire ordeal up, but they don't know who. And now everything is completely out of control with the newly dead motorist and his backpack of cash and other items. Who can be trusted...with friends like these?

I'd like to thank Netgalley and the publisher, Bloodhound Books, as well as Dreamscape Media for providing me with the audiobook to With Friends Like These. I definitely recommend it! I'm interested in reading more from Keri Beevis after listening to this audiobook.

Thank you Net Galley for an audio ARC of With Friends Like These by Keri Beevis. This was a fabulous mystery/ thriller. I couldn't put it down and listened in one sitting. A group of friends from university end up in a rental, and murder and mayhem happens. Loved it!

Thank you to Dreamscape Media, Keri Beevis, and Netgalley for this audio in exchange for an honest review. I generally prefer female narrators because they tend to do better with both genders voices, however Joshua Manning does a really great job with the characters voices. There were a couple twists and the ending, well, you’ll have to listen for yourself. Definitely a must listen. 🌟🌟🌟🌟 rating for me. Took me a day to listen.

This audiobook was quite enjoyable. I started out really liking all the characters, but by the end I couldn't stand most of them. It was definitely a slow burn, but there were so many twists along the way. I will definitely be looking forward to reading more by Keri Beevis.

As a fan of Keri Beevis other books, I was excited for this new one. The book starts with a bang (literally) and while there are some points that it's a little slow the twists are constant. I think my biggest issue with this book is I feel I didn't really learn much about these characters until the very end. While that may have been an intentional move by the author since it isn't until the end that this group of friends seems to really "know" each other, it caused me to care very little about the characters. However by the end of the book I had very strong feelings about some of the characters and they all got what they deserved, for better or for worse. Great book, excellent writing as always from Keri Beevis!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read in exchange for my honest review.

With Friends Like These by Keri Beevis (Audiobook)

Dreamscape LLC

Listening Length: 8 hours 50 minutes
Narrator: Joshua Manning
Genre: Thriller
KKECReads Rating: 3/5
I received a copy of this audiobook for free, and I leave my review voluntarily.

Keri Beevis lives in Norfolk, England, with her two naughty kitties, Ellie and Lola, and a plentiful supply of red wine (her writing fuel). She loves Hitchcock movies, exploring creepy places, and gets extremely competitive in local pub quizzes. She is also a self-confessed klutz.

“It’s probably the shock, too.”

A group of friends decides to stay in a remote cottage to celebrate Griff’s birthday. Despite not staying as close as they had once been, everyone shows up ready to have a good weekend. Until Billy shows up with a dead body. Suddenly, everyone’s plans are changed, and it’s a fight for their lives.

I might have enjoyed this more as a book I read than a book I listened to. While the narrator did a good job performing the book, I found the storyline difficult to follow as timelines weren’t made clear.

Several times I was confused because the book had gone back in time, which wasn’t obvious. I also felt the book went on longer than necessary when the chaos exploded.

I might have to try this again as a book I read to see if I enjoy it more. The plot was decent, and the pacing moved along quickly, but there were times I didn’t know where we were in the timeline, and I tuned out.

There weren’t really any great characters in this book. Everyone had secrets and ulterior motives, and as intertwined with the hit and run, things got more complex.

I found the narrator talented. He did a great job bringing the characters to life, and there were many people to keep straight. I enjoyed his voice and the cadence in which he read the novel.

I wish things had been a bit clearer, but overall, this was really just okay for me. I was happy when it was finished. I felt the story was dragged out longer than necessary, and the plot was reasonably repetitive from the middle through the end.

This thriller is full of twists and turns that you would never expect! This is my second book from this author and it one was as good as the last. I loved the layer upon layer of secrets within this group of friends. Every single person had something to hide, and nothing was as it seemed. Although I did feel that there were some slow moments, the suspense had me listening for hours at a time, and the narration by Joshua Manning was excellent.

A big thank you to NetGalley, Dreamscape Media, and Keri Beevis for allowing me to listen to this gifted copy in exchange for my honest review.

Six old friends from college meet at an Airbnb in the boondocks to celebrate a birthday. One of the friends decides to have a couple, or rather, several drinks before he sets in for the long drive. He managed to almost make it there before running over a man. He gets out and throws him in the backseat so he can take him to a hospital. When he checks in on him minutes later and discovers that he died. He shows up at the vacation with the corpse in tow and tells his friends what happened. Then the story takes off at a rapid pace when the reader finds out who the dead man is. The author drops little cues about the character's backgrounds and personalities. I thought that I had it all figured out until there is a twist and I realized that I was off base. This book is a great one for a long flight because you're not going to be able to put it down.

The narrator sounds like count dracula and it took me a while to get over his voice and be able to focus on the content of what he was saying.
The book starts of with explaining exactly what happens- love when a book jumps right in and gives you something to want to know more about. BUT, there was then so much background being given on the characters and their relationships with each other. With six people and a situation you want more about it was hard to really care about all of their backgrounds together in too much detail, and I didn't feel that all that front loading really impacted the character development later. The past they shared about the characters later in the story was more telling to who they are.
I thought this was a great storyline- what WOULD you do as a friend if you were in this situation? And then the actual reason for the weekend and why the man was carrying so much money in the end really kept me wanting to turn the next page. Also, Griffin got what he deserved.

**Goodreads it not working today. I will add my review as soon as they get the bug worked out!

Thank you to NetGalley for an early copy to review. This was a nice fast-paced thriller. I listened to the audiobook and the writing made it hard to stop. I liked that it took place in such a short amount of time. I was gripped right from the start, when the accident happened. I wish there were more twists, which is why I am giving it 3.5 stars. Would definitely like to read more by this author.

Six university friends reunite at a secluded airbnb in Scotland to celebrate one of the friend's birthdays. Early on in the book we learn that one of them has an accident and the friends gather to help with a coverup. As the plot develops, the reader begins to understand that what was initially a gathering of friends was in fact an opportunity for them all to re-connect and seek to settle old scores.

It took me a little while to get into this book, struggling to understand why they would do some of the things they did. Once I learned to suspend disbelief at the poor decision making, i began to settle into the novel and enjoy the story unfold. There were lots of twists and turns that I did not see coming so i was kept guessing until the end about how the story would resolve.

This book has similar vibes to Lucy Foley's "the Hunting Party" but with slighty darker sub plots, recommended for those who enjoy twisty thrillers.

An all expenses paid weekend away with your best friends from college seems like the perfect idea, until it isn't. The weekend starts with Billy drinking too much and getting behind the wheel. When he accidently hits a pedestrian, he panics. He wants to help, but he doesn't want to get caught drinking and driving. This story is NOT just what happens when a mistake is made, the secrets of each of these friends are revealed as the book progresses and as you learn more, you will agree the name of the book is spot on. There are a lot of twists, the author keeping you are edge right through to the end.

What a twisty thriller! A group of former college friends decide to get together for a weekend. However, when one of them shows up with a dead body inside his car, they suddenly need to decide what to do with it! It seems everyone has a different opinion, and everyone has a secret! Before long arguments erupt and then the situation becomes each man for himself! Add to that, a remote location, and some bad guys with their own agenda and you have the makings of a really intense thriller!

Told in short chapters, from each character’s point of view, just when you think you know how it will end, the author throws in another twist! Keri Beevis has made it to my auto-buy list!

Read this if you like twisty stories, intense situations, remote locations, and secrets!

My thanks to NetGalley and Bloodhound Books for my audio copy. My thoughts are my own.

Dark and twisted, this comedic thriller looks at a group of friends from university who get together for a reunion at a remote and secluded Scottish location, and things go downhill fast. This group of supposed friends clearly have no loyalty to each other. And after things start happening, it was easy to predict what the characters reactions would be. For the most part, most of the characters are unlikable, but I think that was deliberate on the part of the author because it made you root for the calamity to befall them. I did like the chapters revealing their backgrounds in uni and seeing how their friendships were formed and how they went wrong along the way. That being said, I don’t understand why they’d be willing to get together again for a reunion when there was no love lost between them.
On the way to the reunion, after he’s had a few drinks, Billy hits a guy with his car and puts him in his car thinking he will take him to the hospital, but while he’s on the way, the man dies so Billy takes him to the house where they’re having the reunion and they decide to cover for Billy when they discover the guy he hit is a known criminal. But little do they know, the guys brother has a tracker on him and comes looking for him and the money he was carrying. The friends all turn on each other when the heat is on.
I liked the audiobook narration of this story. The Scottish accent really helped set the scene of the story.
Thanks to Bloodhound Books and NetGalley for this audiobook arc in exchange for my review.
