I want to thank Netgalley and the author for gifting me the ebook. I was able to find the audio version through my local library app.
Wow I was really looking forward to this book. I cannot believe how badly written this is. This book just pours out feminist bullcrap. This is supposed to take place during the 1920's and all the woman are such awful feminist it is so so soo annoying. So much so I cannot finish after reading 60%.
The main character is vile and obnoxious. She loves how a gentlemen she just met talks freely about sex?! A group of people including a bunch of women and couple of men are talking and the women talk about birth control and how unmarried women can't take their classes about family planning and a women gets upset and yells about how the men think it is disgusting of the women to talk about such matters right now. And I agree with them. And all the women including the main character (the book is written first person) the main character talks about how absolutely wrong the men were to voice their opinion. Just absolutely awful writing. Yeah yeah we get it author you are a flamming feminist trying to beat it over the head of your readers. Spare me.

A cosy mystery set in the 1920s.

This isn't the first murder that Kitty has solved but if this is your first encounter with Kitty Worthington the story still works without any prior knowledge needed.

There are great relationships between the characters showing Kitty's resilience when faced with others opinions.

This keeps you guessing throughout.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved reading this installment of the series- I've read the previous books and thoroughly enjoyed seeing where this book took our beloved Kitty in her adventures as well as her budding romance with the Inspector. Things were very fast paced and I really liked the setting and mystery but my favorite part were the characters. The main leads (and the supporting characters) are extremely likable- you can't help but root for them!

Murder at the Masked Ball is the third book in the Kitty Worthington Mysteries series. Kitty is investigating a murder that takes place at a ball. A family friend has been accused and it looks like he will hang for the crime. Kitty and her friends work together to solve the mystery. It is a historical mystery, taking place in the 1920’s. It’s a light cozy mystery with a darling main character. There is a bit of romance as well.

Thank you NetGalley and Hearts Afire Publishing for the opportunity to read this book. I am submitting my unbiased and voluntary review and opinion. I will post this review to my blog, Goodreads, Bookbub, & Amazon accounts.

I thoroughly enjoyed this cosy mystery and I devoured it in one day. It's full of twists, wonderful characters and a mystery that kept me guessing until the last moment.

I loved the ensemble cast and the fact that Kitty and her group of friends worked as a team to solve the crime. It sped the plot along at a good rate as it wasn't held back by Kitty needing to do everything.

I enjoyed Kitty and Inspector Crawford's relationship. It will be interesting to see how Kitty manages to get her way with investigating in the future if Inspector Crawford makes an issue of it.

Murder at the Masked Ball is a very quick-paced and riveting read with a clever heroine and a dose of humour.

This was my first Kitty Worthington Mystery read and I loved it. Nothing short of a female Columbo type read. The characters all meshed well and even gave a little bit more mystery with little nuggets of doubt as to who side they were really on. Just enough hint at romance to keep you on your toes as to if the characters were going to get together at the end.

Murder on the Golden Arrow was one of my favorite books from this past year, so I was super excited to dive into this one (somehow I missed reading book two 🤷🏻‍♀️). I was not disappointed. This was another incredibly entertaining cozy mystery. Excellent writing. Well paced. A plot that kept me guessing. A fabulous setting and time period, and a plethora of likable characters. Bring on book 4!

From the very start the books had me hooked. The characters, the settings it was very well put together. I believe this is the third of Kitty's many adventures. I haven't read the first two books but this has me wanting more. The mystery had me wrapped up and engrossed at all times. The characters are so well developed the way the author writes makes me feel I'm right there with the others.

‘Murder At The Masked Ball’ by Magda Alexander is a historical cosy mystery, set in the 1920s. Kitty Worthington is a young society lady, expected to find a suitable husband and settle down. But Kitty loves a puzzle and has been successful in solving crimes that no-one else could. Her desire is to set up her own detective agency, much to the chagrin of her mother. To placate said mother, she agrees to attend the Midsummer Masked Ball held at the home of the Duchess of Brightwell. But the suspicious death of a guest puts Kitty smack bang in the middle of a murder investigation. Can Kitty save an innocent man from the gallows? With the help of her coterie of family and friends, Kitty is determined to find the real killer.

Magda Alexander has found a way to make Kitty the most modern and fascinating of characters. Although set in the 1920s, and perfectly pitched for that era, she has managed to make Kitty relatable. She is intelligent, loyal and steadfast. She seems like such a modern, forward-thinking young woman, with a ferocious intellect and the determination to go with it.

I liked the collaborative element to the investigation. Kitty has the support of her family and friends in trying to solve the case, and knows how to bring out their strengths.

It was a truly fascinating mystery with a great bunch of characters. I adored it and much more. I’ll just have to go back and read more in this series, and await with bated breath the next.

I was given this ARC for review.

Who Really Killed the Unpleasant Lord?

Kitty Worthington is back for her third adventure in solving crime. In her first, she prevented her brother from being convicted of murder. In the second, she saved her sister’s fiancé from a murder charge. Now she had a new challenge.

“Murder at the Masked Ball,” by Magda Alexander, follows the same template as the first two books. It is the 1920s, and Kitty Worthington, the youngest child in her wealthy family, is trying to avoid her mother’s attempts at matchmaking. But she stumbles into a murder, one of her friends and relations seems to be the guilty party, and it is up to Kitty and her crew to prove otherwise by finding the actual culprit.

In this case, the accused is her good friend Lord Newcastle. He has carried a torch for Lady Wakefield since before World War I. He even proposed marriage to her, only to be turned down by her family. (He was not then Lord Newcastle, only inheriting the title and fortune due to the death of other heirs during World War I.) Rather than allowing Lady Wakefield to marry a penniless love, they forced her to marry the wealthy Lord Wakefield. He turned out to be as cruel as he was wealthy, regularly beating his wife for failing to produce an heir.

Lord Wakefield gets murdered at the Duchess of Brightwell’s masked ball, which Kitty, her sister, and mother attended. Newcastle was there also, as was Lady Wakefield. Newcastle had a confrontation with Lord Wakefield shortly before the murder. Lord Wakefield had struck his wife hard enough to bruise her face before the ball, outraging Newcastle. Worse, Newcastle was seen holding the murder weapon, a heavy ceramic vase, when Lord Wakefield’s body was discovered.

Kitty’s romantic interest, Inspector Crawford is sent to investigate. Even he thinks Newcastle did it. Things are made worse when Newcastle confesses to protect Lady Wakefield.

Kitty remains unconvinced. Crawford is more interested in catching a killer than closing a case. He does not interfere as she pursues an independent investigation to find the real killer. In the process, she puts herself in real danger.

“Murder at the Masked Ball” proves another delightful addition to this series. It explores the mores and manners of the English upper class and upper middle class during the 1920s. It offers a humorous and fast-paced adventure in a clever plot with an equally clever solution.

“Murder at the Masked Ball,” by Magda Alexander, Hearts Afire Publishing, 2022, 300 pages, $12.99 (paperback), $3.99 (Ebook)

First of all, thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this advanced copy of Murder at the masked ball.
After having read the second book in this series a while ago, I had been on the lookout for number three and it did not disappoint.
Kitty and her friends are once again asked to look into a murder when one of their friends is a suspect in the murder case.
I love the setting of 1920s London. I love the characters of Kitty and her friends and inspector Crawford as Kitty’s love interest. There were some coincidences in the story that had me suspend my disbelief but I still very much enjoyed this book and couldn’t put it down.
Already looking forward to book 4!

Kitty Worthington has declined many proposals and her mother is worried, but Kitty thinks she can become a private detective first, then marry later. She has had luck in two previous cases and decides to try her hand at a third. When her family arrives at the masked ball hosted by the Duchess of Brightwell, Kitty is confronted with a dead earl at the bottom of the steps. When a close friend is charged with murder, Kitty knows she must use all her resources to prove Lord Newcastle is innocent. An engaging mystery with a very likable and extremely intelligent character in Kitty Worthington.

Kitty Worthington is on the case again! A friend is framed for murdering the abusive husband of his first love and it is up to Kitty with the help of her friends and family to find the real killer. It doesn't help - or hurt - that DI Robert Crawford is in charge of the case for Scotland Yard.

I loved this book and am a fan of the series for many reasons. Kitty is a fun and smart protagonist while the supporting characters add to the story. The story is always well done and the settings are interesting.

I recommend to fans of the Kitty Underhay, Violet Carlyle, or Lady Swift mysteries, Thank you to #NetGalley fir the opportunity to read an advance copy of #MurderattheMaskedBall.

When a noble lord takes a plunge to his demise, Kitty Worthington once again steps in to investigate and exonerate a friend who is suspected of the murder.
Kitty and her team of lords, ladies, friends and relatives step up to investigate and this one is just as good as the first two.
I love Kitty and her cast of characters, they have perfect chemistry making their interactions interesting, believable and entertaining . This has all the elements needed for a historical mystery and can be read as a stand alone if you missed the first two.
I recommend for a entertaining weekend read. Thank you to Hearts Afire Publishing and to Net Galley for the free ARC, I am leaving my honest review in return.

Amateur sleuth Kitty Worthington finds herself once again investigating a murder. This time, a noble lord is slain at a masked ball, and Kitty's friend is accused of the crime. She's not sure who did it, but she knows she can trust her friends to help her discover and unwind the clues.
With plenty of twists, this book kept me entertained! I also really liked the modern connection to women's rights, female sexuality and gender equality.
And the writing style is engaging. The author chooses action words that keep the book moving and keep it fun. I wish I would have read the first two books of the series, but for sure I will read future editions!

Thanks to BookBuzz and Net Galley for this ARC. I'm really liking this series. The characters are really fun and with each installment they are developed. The story lines are good, a little predictable but what do you expect with cozy crime, although I am looking forward to book 4. One thing i really hope is that it gets proof read again before publishing as Owen Clapham became Owen Markham for a few chapters near the end and the Duchess of Brightwell is referred to a Lady Wakefield a few times.

Historical mystery mainly set in London. I enjoy the characters and the setting. The MC is progressive - working towards women having the vote, wanting to work instead of just get married. She and her friends are working to solve what appears to be two mysteries. I enjoy this series.

Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
