This was not the book I was expecting going in. I have seen a few non-fiction works being praised for their trek into family history and the like, and seeing this, I thought it was one such book, and I wanted to give it a shot.
It is a very personal journey of a woman who finally decides to look into her birth parents and ends up with a half-sister, and the latter turns out to be a big part of the latter half of this short book.
Although it was a very swift read, I did not get much satisfaction out of this. It is a straightforward tale, told as such in a very matter-of-fact way, and it is a momentous journey for the author, but I did not feel anything by the time I completed the book except happy for the author for finding unexpected family.
I may have gone into this expecting something else, and this might be the reason for my reaction, but it is a simple story with a lot of people pitching in to ensure the ultimate meeting.
I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
This was an emotional read for me. Katherine captures her feelings and emotions throughout her entire ordeal of trying to gain access to more information about her adoptive parents and then to find that she has had a half sister she also never knew about. An inspiring. touchingly raw and honest read about the ongoing impacts of adoption, especially from a time when adoptions weren't as open as they can now be and accessing information about one's birth parents was more of a challenge and sometimes near impossible. A hopeful and inspiring read.#katherinelinncaire #accidentalsisters #netgalley #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads#litsy#thestorygraph#amazonaustralia #bookqueen #bookstagram #mem

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Books Fluent for an ARC of this book. I found Accidental Sisters to have a very interesting story about a woman's adoption and discovering more about her birth family much later in her life. It is indeed a fascinating journey however I found the writing to be quite uninspiring. While the story is certainly a great one I didn't think the writing matched.

This is a moving memoir about an adult looking for more than just a medical history but her roots. It's a journey which destination is more than just figuring out where her DNA came from but on the way she finds out who she's become since she was adopted.

I’m addicted to true life stories such as this. Kathe decided to search for her birth mother at the age of 52 and had several breaks in her search. Her discovering she had a sister was an added bonus. Her story turned out well, when so many like her don’t.
What was most fascinating to me is the hometown Of the birth mother is very close to where I live.
The hotel the author stayed at when she visited the town is one I’ve driven past hundreds of times.
Finding relatives can be a fraught filled process but fortunately it turned out for the author.

I really struggled with how to rate Accidental Sisters. The overall story is interesting, and writing the book was clearly cathartic for the author and helped her process the events she describes. However, as a book, I didn't find it particularly compelling. The way the book was structured made it hard to follow at times, and the writing was quite amateurish. I think it would have benefitted from more intensive editing to improve and tighten the writing. I did finish it, but I don't think I'd recommend it to others.

Accidental Sisters by Katherine Caire is a fascinating memoir I could not put down. I have a thing for stories about adoptees searching for their biological family through DNA and this one definitely did not disappoint. Highly recommend!

What a wild but lovely experience! I can't imagine how it must feel to find out after many decades that you have a sibling and then have to good fortune of meeting them and having them become such an important part of your life.
This book was well written. The changing of points of view was great at the beginning of the book. I'm so happy that the author had a such a wonderful family and adoptive parents and eventually a sister!
