Beatrice (Nana) Darker is my new favorite character!!

Alice Feeney does it again with her new "Daisy Darker" novel. I was hooked with this author after reading "Rock, Paper, Scissors". She is a great story teller and her books are hard to put down. I want to reread to find the clues I missed along the way.

This story is a modern nod to Agatha Christie's "And Then There Were None" locked-room style murder mystery. Very atmospheric and makes me want to visit the Sea Glass Estate. The dysfunctional family are invited to visit Nana for her 80th birthday which happens to be Halloween. Once the tide comes in they are stuck on the island when things start going astray. This truly is a page turner.

🎧Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney @⭐️⭐️⭐️•⭐️

Thank you @macmillan.audio and @netgally for the audiobook of #DaysiDarker

🌙𝐵𝑜𝑜𝑘 𝐵𝑙𝑢𝑟𝑏: “After years of avoiding each other, Daisy Darker’s entire family is assembling for Nana’s 80th birthday party in Nana’s crumbling gothic house on a tiny tidal island. Finally back together one last time, when the tide comes in, they will be cut off from the rest of the world for eight hours.

The family arrives, each of them harboring secrets. Then at the stroke of midnight, as a storm rages, Nana is found dead. And an hour later, the next family member follows…

Trapped on an island where someone is killing them one by one, the Darkers must reckon with their present mystery as well as their past secrets, before the tide comes in and all is revealed.”

🌙𝑅𝑒𝑣𝑖𝑒𝑤: I always love a plot with a dysfunctional family; I loved the 3 Darker girls and also Nana’s character was super interesting. I wanted to like this book more, I was hooked since page 1 but soon after I got a bit bored. I think the narrative was so repetitive. The setting, blurb and the “locked room” trope makes you want to love this book but in reality, to me, it lacks of the suspense I was looking for. Alice Feeney is known by her twisty books and without going into many details, she did it again…right at the very end. The book was interesting enough, entertaining enough but it is compared with Agatha Christie’s And Then There When None so my expectations were very high.

🌙𝑁𝑎𝑟𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛: Stephanie Racine was the narrator of this one as she has narrated all the others books I have listened to from Feeney. She is an excellent narrator and shows it on this one too.

Daisy Darker was a very fun thriller with a dysfunctional family, dramatic will reading, and lots of family secrets. This novel was compelling throughout the entire book and I really liked the pacing. I also found it very interesting that we only followed Daisy’s POV, as so many books in the genre now utilize multiple povs, especially in thrillers about one family. I thought only following Daisy’s POV made the book stand out and feel much more unique. I did find the major twist to be quite predictable, HOWEVER, I love that the twist was what it was, as it once again felt fresh. And I would much rather have a twist be predictable than not set up. This book felt like knives out meets And then there were none, which is a fantastic pairing that produced a great new thriller. I give this book 4.5 stars, but will round up to 5.

Alice Feeney does it again y’all. But I mean when doesn’t she. She’s the Queen of Twists for a reason. And let me tell you, she delivers, oooh she absolutely delivers!!

The story is told through a duel timeline. One being the present, Beatrice “Nana” Darker’s 80th birthday where her son, ex-daughter-in-law, 3 granddaughters, great-granddaughter, and a family friend all gather. The other, takes us back to the 80’s watching her granddaughters, Rose, Lily, and Daisy grow up.

Daisy, the baby of the family and Nana’s favorite is our narrator. She was born with a heart condition and has died and been successfully resuscitation countless times. She was the inspiration for Anna’s widely successful children’s series “Daisy Darker and Her Secrets”.

Nana’s celebration takes place on her home on an island. The thing about the island though, is that you can only reach it during low tide. When the tide is in, you have to wait 8 hours before coming or going from the island.

As the clock strikes midnight, a blood curling scream is heard. Everyone runs downstairs and finds one of them dead……and as the clock strikes 1, someone else joins them…

Oh my. I cannot put into words how much I recommend this book!! The plot!! The characters!! THE TWISTS!!!! I did NOT see the twists coming at all!! I could not stop listening!!

The only complaint I have about this book is how big of a reading slump it put me in after. Nothing else came close to touching this book again.

Honestly might be my favorite Alice Feeney book yet. Do yourself a favor and pre-order it NOW (available August 18, 2022)!! 10/10 recommend.

Thank you to MacMillan Audio and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I was so hyped for being approved for this audiobook! The pace of this story was too slow for my liking. The characters were not likeable and I could not stand a few of them. I can handle some flashbacks, but this story was told mostly in flashbacks and it got old quickly. The setting was 2004, but it feels like it should of been in the 1800s. I did like the description of Seaglass and Black Sand Beach! But overall I had a hard time getting into and staying interested in the story.

The narrator's voice was fine, but her cadence of up and down while reading the sentence got annoying real quick. It was hard to hear when she would whisper some parts, but then would get too loud at other parts. I think the narrator should of been a more deeper voiced actress, to go along with the feel of the story. Overall, it was a fail in the narration department, in my opinion.

Thank you to Netgalley, Alice Feeney and Macmillan Audio for allowing me to listen and review this ARC.

Meh- I had a hard time getting into this one. Nothing really held me in wanting more. I really enjoyed HIs & Hers, but this one wasn't anything special. The narrator did a great job though.

Wow! Alice Feeney has done it again! What an excellent read. While I feel it was slow to start, once you’ve finished, it all make sense. The reader needs the background story of the Darker family and their past mistakes to better understand how they end up together on their grandmother’s 80th birthday. As the story unfolds, and Darker family members start dying one by one, the reader is left trying to figure out who the murderer is and why they are killing everyone. Nothing makes sense until the finale and this one definitely blew me away. The narrator did a fantastic job!

Oh my goodness! This was a true mystery with a lot of suspense. I was trying to determine what was going to happen, but I couldn't do it. This twisty story was so much fun. Daisy Darker was an interesting character and I liked her very much. I also enjoyed the stories from both timelines. That ending was so far off from what I was thinking and I love when a book can do that. Not predictable at all. I will highly recommend this to anyone who wants a smart and twisty thriller.

When the Darker family comes together for Nana's 80th birthday party, they have no idea what will happen. The family hasn't been together in years, but when Nana summons them all, they can't say no. As the family begins to arrive everything is as it should be, until it isn't. When Nana reveals her will to the family, everyone is shocked. As the night goes on, nothing is as it seems.

When a strange and creepy poem shows up, the Darker family better be careful if they want to make it through the night. But when the hour strikes, you may not make it.

I love Alice Feeney's work. Daisy Darker just became my new favorite psychological thriller. It will completely consume you. The atmosphere, tempo, and twists were fantastic!! I highly recommend it to everyone.

This was amazing! I listened to the audiobook, and it was so well read by Stephanie Racine! I will definitely look for more audiobooks with her narration, as well as books by the author, Alice Feeney.

The suspense was so well written into the storyline, and not predictable at all. As I got to the end and some things were revealed, it made me want to go back and listen to it again to catch any little clues that were hidden along the way.

I highly recommend this book as an audio, but I'm sure it was a page turner as a book.

Thank you to Netgalley and MacMillan Audio for the pre release!

Daisy Darker’s entire family is a complete train wreck to say the least. The family is gathering for their Nana's 80th birthday party, on an island where for eight hours a day, there is no escape. When the tide is in, no one can get off the island and this crew is ready to murder each other - literally.

You'll love the fast paced plot, revealing long-held family secrets, and characters you'll love to hate. Most of them, really. There are very few redeeming qualities for most of the characters. As the clock keeps ticking, the body count will rise, and you won't be able to guess who makes it out alive.

I absolutely loved the nod to Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. The premise of the book, a book within a book, and sharp references to posthumous writing is brilliant. You'll rush to get through this novel to find out what happens at the end, but you'll also wish to savor each page. This is a delightful thriller - with a paranormal flare. This novel will be a great summer or fall read, whether you're poolside, on the beach, curled up on the couch, or listening on a cross country trip.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and Netgalley for early access to the audio version in exchange for an honest review. I loved it! And I highly recommend the audio version. The narrator is fantastic and adds life to the story.

An excellent closed-door mystery ala Agatha Christie. I thoroughly enjoyed the narrator and the ending!

Who is Daisy Darker? Is she the little girl in her Nana's books? How many times has her broken heart let her body die? And how many times has she been brought back to life? It is Nana's birthday on Halloween and the family gathers at Seaglass to celebrate. The 80 clocks in Nana's house strike midnight of the big day. The tide is in and Seaglass is cut off from the rest of the world. There is an ominous poem on the kitchen chalkboard with a stanza for all -- with on exception. Inspired by the classic Christie tale "And Then There Were None," this is an inventive and addicting take on the locked room mystery. Until now, I would have said Sometimes I Lie was my favorite Feeney title. No longer. Daisy Darker is now at the top of my list.

I found this book to be different than other thrillers or mysteries that I’ve read, and I thought it was a unique take on the locked door trope. It came across more as a family drama when I had gone into it expecting it to be a thriller, but I was interested in the family dynamics and it did not feel as though it dragged. The way the timeline was presented was very interesting, and I liked Daisy as a narrator. At times I felt she a bit too dark/morose sounding, but it did not keep me from wanting to continue with the book. I thought that the narrator was great. Overall I enjoyed the book and I will be recommending it to others.

Daisy, the youngest of three daughters in a family that is rather blasé about one another, tells the reader about her grandmother's 80th birthday celebration on a remote island. As the evening wears on, family secrets leak out, and the sense of dread increases exponentially all the way through to the shocking reveal. Fans of psychological suspense will enjoy it.

Excuse Me, Blowhole! 😳😯🤯😳😯🤯

Calamity cakes on fire! Geez almighty! This book was amazing and everything! Think Agatha Christie novels meets the game, Clue! I absolutely adored Nana and wanted her as my own! I cannot express how much I enjoyed listening to this book - whenever I had to pause it I was dying to get back to it. I HAD to know what was next. Feeney never fails for me and this is easily my second favourite of hers now, after His & Hers! Literary, thrilling queen of geniusness!

Mყ 𝐒ყɴ𝐨ρѕιѕ: Daisy Darker is the youngest of her family with two older sisters, a niece, her Mother, Father and adoring Nana. But it's been years since they all assembled at Nana's home on a tidal island. For her 80th birthday on Halloween, everyone shows up the day before. However, the stroke of midnight on Halloween, Nana is found dead at the bottom of the stairs. And every hour after that someone else dies. Someone has something against the Darker's and revenge is best served with unveiling everyone's secrets.

The ending had me thrown for an absolute fruit loop, loop! I saw none of it coming and wouldn't have guessed it for miles! This entire novel, was like eating popcorn during a suspenseful movie & just at the climax & reveal you shovel popcorn faster and faster into your mouth! I'm still reeling from that impeccable ending. Suspense & mystery are endless in this one guys! I will say, I got teary-eyed at the very end. Best work yet, Alice! I need coffee & my dog's cuddles STAT!

You may still be poolside and basking in that summer sun, but it’s never too early to start planning your spooky season TBR. DAISY DARKER, the upcoming release by Alice Feeney, delivers atmosphere and a string of mysterious murders in spades.

Told in an hour by hour fashion, we meet the Darker family at their seaside island retreat on Halloween as high tide has them trapped inside. Slowly, members of the Darker family are murdered in meticulous ways. Each family member has secrets which are slowly revealed in flashbacks told through family home videos from the 1980s.

I love a good locked-room mystery and this clever story was no exception. The story was reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s infamous novel AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, but Daisy Darker felt fresh in its twists and turns. Feeney spent five years writing this book and this is evident with the well-crafted plot found within these pages.

I would highly recommend the audiobook narrated by Stephanie Racine. Her English accent and intonation was precisely what the story needed. If you’re looking for the perfect atmospheric Halloween read, add Daisy Darker to your shelves!

RATING: 4/5

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of “Daisy Darker” in exchange for an honest review. As always, I love Feeney’s writing. I appreciate her prose and her use of descriptive language without it being trite. I enjoy how she creates a strong sense of place. I have enjoyed reading all of her books. Unfortunately, this one was not my favorite. I think that there will be a lot of people out there who really love it though, and I think that’s great.

Daisy Darker by Alice Feeney

This is the fourth book I’ve read by Alice Feeney and it ranks up there amongst my favorites.

It’s Nana’s 80th birthday and everyone gathers to celebrate in one of the darkest and deadliest family reunions I’ve ever read.

You see, there is more than just a little bit of tension between the family members. And as events unfold over time you learn everything that lies between them as one by one each family member turns up dead.

I thought the way the book unfolded was intriguing and loved the “Daisy Darker” premise. I didn’t guess the twist and the revelations were done in a way that I couldn’t wait to see who did it.

Daisy Darker…⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for the advanced copy!
