I was given this book by NetGalley for an honest review -
Jo and Carl are having drinks and discussing Carl leaving his wife so they can be together. Too many drinks and J decides she needs to drive,
Anni and her son Tobi are walking home when he takes off and is hit by Jo's car. Carl decides to take the jail term for Jo and is sooo hated by Anni who doesn't know that Jo was driving.
Jo takes a substitute teaching job and becomes friends with Anni. She tries to keep her life secret but little by little information leaks out - - what will happen when Anni finds out Jo was driving? Can Jo handle the stress of knowing what shes done? Can Carl cope with jail?
You will be totally shocked at the ending!

This book was very good and it was especially readable
It was about a woman who was called Annie and her boy who was called Tobi
And it started when Tobi was knocked down by a car and he died
It was a woman called Jo that killed him but Carl who was with her had said he did it and now he is in prison
I had an ARC

Anni is a single mom who would give her world for her little boy named Tobi. Everything changes for Anni when one day, Tobi is killed by a drunk driver named Carl. Anni hates Carl for taking her little boy from her. After this moment, Anni must learn how to live her life without Tobi, so she returns to work 6 months later, where she makes a new friend named Jo. Although Jo provides a temporary distraction from Anni’s grief, Jo has a secret that could change the course of their relationship.

So for starters, this was a really great book concept. I loved the fact that the book was told from all three prospectives, but I felt like this book was indeed missing something. I kept waiting for a big twist to happen that never came. Additionally, the repeated feelings/themes of each prospective kind of bored me. This book was far from a psychological thriller and I feel like it felt more on the dramatic side.

Check out this book when it comes out tomorrow!

Thank you to NetGally and Inkubator books for this ARC read in exchange for an honest review.

This was a decently entertaining read. Definitely pulled on your heart strings. It’s hard to imagine the grief one experiences after losing a child in such a traumatic way. It was a bit hard to read.

However, the ending was great and to me, wrapped up nicely! It didn’t seem to be much of a thriller for me, there wasn’t a mystery or anything particularly anxiety inducing. Overall it was a good read!

This was a hard book for me to review. It was well written. Lots of lies and deception and grief and even some karma. However it triggered lots of emotional feelings for me. It wasn't like the other Daniel Hurst books. First there is Anni - the mother of 7 year old Tobi who let her guard down for one split second and lost so much. Her story was a bit depressing. She meets Jo in an unexpected way and a friendship begins. But the friendship is built on lies. Jo's lover Carl is in prison and serving a five year sentence for the love of his life. The lies between Carl and Jo and the lies between Jo & Anni keep adding up until eventually it all comes pouring out. A somewhat satisfying ending but not an edge of your seat kind of thriller.

This book was not a favorite of mine. The four different story lines could get very confusing at times. I felt things were repetitive and did not move the plot along. It was a good premise, but the execution was a little to slow paced for me.

The Accident is every woman's nightmare. Anni is walking home with her son Tobi from a birthday party one afternoon. Anni is having a heated phone conversation with her ex over a rearranged visitation schedule of their son. In a split second, Anni's attention is lost, and Tobi chases his balloon into the street, directly into the path of an on coming car that belongs to a man named Carl. Carl pleads guilty immediately and is sent to prison. From there the nightmare begins.

After a bereavement period, Anni returns to work as a teacher, she befriends Jo, a substitute teacher she finds crying in the bathroom on the first day of classes. As Anni extends her friendship, she can't help but feel that Jo is keeping something from her and she's right. Jo knows exactly who Anni is, and she knows more about the worst day of Anni's life than she will ever tell.. Jo has a secret, she is connected to the accident. Jo tries to break off the friendship but each time Anni makes it harder and harder for her as Anni is such a nice person.

I assure you, the ending you will not see coming!

Reading Between the Wines book review #54/135 for 2022:
Rating: 3 🍷 🍷 🍷
Book 📱: The Accident
Author: Daniel Hurst
Genre: General Fiction (Adult) | Mystery & Thrillers
RELEASES July 3, 2022!!!

Sipping thoughts: This is labeled as a thriller, but I would say that 95% of the book is a domestic drama and the last 5% is a thriller. With that said I enjoyed it. I was surprised that I did though since everything you need to know is handed to you in the first few chapters, except that list thrill at the end. What would you do if you met the mother of a child who was hit and killed when you have a connection with the accident? As the mother, what do you do when you find out that your new “friend” knows more than she is letting on about your child’s death?

Cheers and thank you to @NetGalley and @Inkubator for an advance copy of @TheAccident.

Told from multiple POV this story will tug at your heart and make you wonder what you would do if you were in the same situation. This is a very quick enjoyable read. I was able to learn more about the characters because of the multiple POV. The writing style has me picturing the scenes in the book which I love. If you are looking for a quick drama book you will enjoy this one.

An interesting story, but there was no "big twist" or anything, as I thought there would be, which was disappointing. Also, why is the balloon on the cover red? In the story it's yellow.

This book started off as a slow burner but increased in pacing as the tension in the plot increased. by the end I was completely gripped and couldn't put it down.

The best thing about this book was the build up to the accident. Knowing what the characters had been doing even 5 minutes prior built up an emotional connection, especially with Tobi. I also liked how short it was. It meant I could finish it quickly and move on.

The premises of the book is good but the execution not so much. I don’t know what category I’d put it in but it certainly want a thriller with a killer twist. I felt it was more about the relationship between Anni and Jo, with Jo hiding what she did from Anni.

There wasn’t really any suspense built up at all and then the ‘killer twist’ was told in one chapter and then the book just sort of ended.

There we’re so many parts that just weren’t believable for me. The first is how Anni didn’t connect the dots before. Why would Jo ask her to say something to make sure Carl doesn’t get hurt again. Literally a big indicator right there! Also, why wasn’t the accident looked into properly. Even with a confession cameras would still have been checked.

Thank you to @netgalley, @inkubatorbooks and Daniel Hurst for sending me an E-arc in exchange for an honest review.

At first, this book was kind of boring to me, just not a lot of dialogue. I’m just one who likes a lot of dialogue.
But at about 75% into it, it finally started getting really interesting to me and I couldn’t put it down!
And the ending, I wasn’t expecting that!
It was a good book, I just hated that it took until 75% in, for it to start getting really interesting.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest opinion.

Another fantastic read from one of my favourite authors.

I really enjoyed this book, I was drawn into the story very quickly and was able to identify with the characters easily and quickly become immersed in their lives.

Thank you Daniel Hurst! 😁

Annie’s son Tobi dies on a walk home from a birthday party when a drunk driver Carl hits him. Carl is now serving a 5 year sentence. But Carl didn’t kill him, his mistress Jo did when she drove carls car after he’d had way too much to drink on his way to tell his wife he was leaving her. He insisted Jo run and he take the fall. But now 6 months later Anni is finally returning to the school she worked at, the same school Jo just got a job at.— This book was full of angst! It was a little hard to connect with the characters in a way because there was so much not to like about them. It did keep me on the edge of my seat though, dying to know what that final twist would be!

I read The Accident in a day. I found once I’d started it, I was drawn in and couldn’t put it down. The plot starts with Anni who is grieving the loss of her son who was run over by drunk driver Carl. Anni is lonely without her son, but she makes a new friend, Jo. However it seems that Jo has a secret and as Anni digs deeper it could have devastating consequences. Gripping and entertaining throughout I would rate this 4 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Inkubator Books and the author for the chance to review.

ove this authors books, he has such a unique way of telling a story that makes every book fascinating, his writing is clear, easy to delve into and become immersed in and involves good characters, ordinary folk who end up in extraordinary situations
The Accident stays with this well done formula and we meet 3 people who are left bereft after an accident kills one of their children and we follow the consequences of this and how there lives become entangled, the more they try to avoid that the more involved they get
Lots of twists and turns and a great ending, well a pre ending that surprised me leading to the finale that again was a shock, brilliantly done
I can only recommend this author and this book as like all previous books I have read by him it is pure reading pleasure

10/10
5 Stars

Every book by this author is a twisting, turning ride of words. Just when you think you see what will happen next, the whole complete opposite happens. I had to keep reading to find out what was going to happen. The conclusion to this emotional book was astounding. This book is a must read for those who like a book with surprises.

This was a very easy read, the type that you sail through unaware of the time passing until suddenly you realise it's the early hours of the morning and you're reading the epilogue. The subject matter, however, was far from easy. The death of a young boy at the hands of an over the limit driver causes ripples throughout the community. Ripples that are more like a tidal wave the boy's bereaved mother as well as the guilty parties. The story does seem a little far fetched in places but the twists at the end were well worth overlooking that. It leaves the reader wondering, was justice served. A great book by an author whose back catalogue I will be looking at.
