This book is about a woman who has her young son killed in a accident, and how her life intertwines with the people responsible for this. The story is told from three main perspectives the mother, both people responsible and a journalist and over different time periods. I enjoyed the different viewpoints as felt this greatly aided character development.

The book was very suspenseful and I did not expect the ending at all and it felt right although it was very dark.

I would recommend the book and the author.

Talk about fast-paced and not wanting to put it down! It has a wonderful twist I enjoyed.

This book was an easy read but it just wasn't for me, although I didn't like it you may.
I don't typically enjoy reading books that start at a point and then revert to flashbacks but I thought it was quite important for this story to set the groundwork for what had happened. There wasn't a lot of character growth and they seem quite two dimensional - Carl loves Jo, Jo loves Carl and Anni is a grieving mum.
The emphasis on how much Jo & Carl loved each other was overplayed, constantly saying how of course they would do XYZ "for the man/woman they loved so much".
The book did pick up pace towards the end however it was quite an anticlimax compared to what I'd invisaged from the blurb and the ending was somewhat predictable.
Once again, just because I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would it doesn't mean you won't.

This book was certainly different. In the beginning it says exactly who did what.; who was driving when Tobi was run over. The main part of the book was about the person who hit Tobi teaching at the same school as his mother (Anni) and befriending her. Anni has no clue who this woman is. The last 20% or so of the book really had a twist I didn't see coming. I really liked this book, although it wasn't all that suspenseful (my reason for only 4 stars)

Anni’s entire life is Tobi, her son. After walking home after a party, Toby is unfortunately hit by a drunk driver, Carl.

Jo has a secret, a terrible, life changing secret. After looking endlessly for a new job, she ends up at the same school as Anni. The two end up becoming friends, but her secret can change everything.

It was a good book, I enjoyed reading it, but it wasn’t thrilling or exciting. I liked how easy it was to read, so I did enjoy it, but it wasn’t anything special or new. I will continue to read Hurst’s work because I do like the writing style.

Another quick and good read by Daniel Hurst.
When a child is a victim of a drunk driving case, the lives of three people are changed forever.
Even after 6 months since the death of her child Tobi, Anni is still grieving him and trying to find some routine in life.
Carl is serving time for causing the death of a child while driving under the influence.
Jo is Carl's girlfriend who was with him during the accident, but no one is aware of this.
Fate brings Anni and Jo close together and one secret blows everything away.

The ending was an interesting one, wouldn't have thought of it.

My Rating: Hmm hate to give only 2 stars as this just wasn’t marketed correctly.
It was not a psychological thriller as the promo indicated so I rounded up

Story starts with Carl and his girlfriend are drinking at a local pub on a Sunday afternoon. He is gathering courage to approach his wife and ask for a divorce. As they were leaving he states he needs “Dutch Courage”. However, it is obvious that he has had too much to drink.
Sure enough there in an ‘Accident’ and a little boy, Tobi is hit and killed.
Carl goes to prison.
Six months later Anni Beckford, Tobi’s mother meets and becomes friends with Jo who has a secret!

Story had me curious as to why the blurb describes this story as a psychological thriller.
I am a big Psychological Thriller fan and I know to:
 Suspect Everyone
 Expect Twists and Turns
 Expect lies and secrets and
 Expect a totally shocking end!

This story does not follow the formula as we know whodunit right away.

I was curious as to how Anni was going to deal with it.
Ending wasn’t a bit of a surprise!

Hmmm wondered why the cover has a red balloon when we know Tobi was chasing a yellow balloon!

When I tell you I could not put this book down, I'm not exaggerating. WOW, I started reading this book at 9pm it's now 3am and I've just finished it. I was absolutely hooked from the first page until the last. I needed to know what would happen next, Daniel Hurst is a genius he writes the type of books where you simply cannot wait to find out what's going to happen. The story with this one, although sad was absolutely gripping, and I love the switch between characters. It's possibly the best, most gripping, nail biting, page turner I've read this year. I get through at least 3 books a week and this one blew my mind. I did not see the end coming at all, kept changing my mind on how I felt about the different characters, except Anni she had my heart from the off. Mr Hurst is fast becoming one of my favourite authors. If you like fast paced Edge of your seat thrillers then this is the book for you

I found this story to be very flat and repetitive. The writing is not the strongest making the conversation feel rather scripted and unnatural. I wasn't finding a connection with any of the characters and found them to be one dimensional. All of them were very bland and did not stick out. While this story was written in multiply point of views, I found it hard to distinguish them apart with the very similar personalities and tone of voice.

The story is a unique idea, I don't think I've read a story with this main story line before. But with that said, there is not a lot happening with the story. It was very straightforward and mundane as our characters go on with their lives. The quick summary of the book is a bit misleading as Anni - the mother who lost her son because of a drunk driver named Carl - seems to be completely oblivious about how odd her new friend, Jo, is acting until the last 20% of the book. In honesty, if a side character did not intervene, I don't see this story ever ending or getting to the point.

Overall, I am not the biggest fan of this book. I loved the idea and concept and was excited to give it a read. However, the writing, lack of diversity to distinguish the characters or something to make them feel more real paired with the slow and redundant storyline made this to be an under average read for me.

I always love daniel’s books, and i’m always thrilled to read his new ones! I really loved this one, i didn’t see the twist at the end coming at all! The sign of a great author as far as i’m concerned!

Tobi, who was only 7 years old was on his way home from a birthday party when he was hit and killed by a drunk driver. The guy went to prison for DUI but other things came up in this story that I could not turn away from. This story gripped me from they very first page and I was wide awake at night wanting to see how it would end. And oh what an ending it was!! She starts to befriend new sub teacher Jo, but what she doesn't know is that Jo is keeping a secret that is linked to the accident... I love Daniel Hurst books and this has to be one of my favourites. I was drawn in from the very start, and while it was an upsetting subject it made a great story. And I loved the ending !!! Five stars from me

I enjoyed reading the book until about the middle of it. A very devastating story and I really liked the fact that each chapter was written from the perspective of each character and it was rotated through the story. I was waiting for the dark twist though that came at the very end of the story so I was a a bit disappointed....The end of the book came very suddenly and the twist is very unexpected so unexpected that somehow it didn't feel like it fit with the rest of the story.

I’m a huge fan of Daniel Hurst and was super excited to read this new book. It certainly didn’t disappoint and I raced through it.
I was quickly absorbed in the story from page 1 and was desperate to know what would happen. The ending was certainly unexpected.
Some of the twists were a little far fetched, however it didn’t take away from my enjoyment. It’s a solid 4 star read.

Another solid book by Daniel Hurst. I like his writing style with relatable characters. It's always a case of "what would I do in this situation"
This book is no exception as we meet Anni, who suffers an unimaginable tragedy and Jo and Carl who were the cause.
Trying to rebuild her life Anni returns to work, just as Jo starts working in the same place, their lives entwine but can Jo prevent the truth from getting out and at what cost
I was surprised by the ending, certainly not what I expected.

I received this book as an ARC from netgalley. This book is a fast paced psychological thriller and is enjoyable. 4 stars because it definitely gets predictable in the middle, but then has a twist at the end that you don’t really see coming. This was a short novel that centers around the lives that were changed forever after the fatal car accident. It was an interesting enough story, but I’m not sure the genre psychological thriller describes the book adequately. I didn’t feel my heart beat in anticipation of what would happen next. You knew from the outset that Jo would have to be very careful when she met Jo again. I was a bit surprised by the lack of police investigation when it came to the crash. Even when someone confessed, shouldn’t the police try to figure out what happened before the crash and get CCTV footage? I always wanted something more to happen, but the novel just wasn’t very thrilling. There were no major twists and I’m afraid I won’t remember much of the book in the future.

The writing was decent, but not more than that.

I also found the ending a bit annoying.

This book disappointed me. It felt unfinished and scratchy. The plot was promising but it wasn’t executed well. I have read much better books from this author.

Fantastic premise: a woman knocks over and kills a child, her partner takes the blame and then the woman ends up working side by side with the child’s mother. The characters were complex and three dimensional and the plot was cleverly developed. Unfortunately the ending of this book ruined the whole thing for me. The characters behaved in ways that didn’t match with how they’d be portrayed so far and it felt like the events were just convenient to bring the book to a close rather than being well thought-out and true to the characters.
