Kmod does it agin with a jaw dropping twist that you will not see coming!! Lover of domestic thrillers, this book is for you! I devoured it in 24 hours and wanted more! I know I love a book when I’m sad that it ends!

Thank you to NetGalley and Kiersten Modglin for this audio-ARC in exchange for my honest feedback and review.
A group of friends is invited over to finally meet the new strange neighbors who have just moved in. Henry, Lakynn, Leo, Bethany, and Piper have all been friends since school and are all neighbors. Suddenly the older couple on the street moves out and the new owners begin mysterious work on the house. When the friends are invited over for dinner they are all excited to meet the new owners. The problem is this group of friends has secrets. Secrets that need to come out.
There is a reason Kiersten Modglin is the "Queen of twists". The Dinner Guests hooked me from the beginning. I could hardly put it down. The only thing I can say that's not praise is just the narrator for Bethany, I just didn't like hearing her voice and that is just a personal opinion. This was a very fast paced thriller and I'm so happy to add it to my KMod collection.

Thank you Netgalley and Dreamscape Media for this advance listener copy in exchange for my honest review.
Well, shut the front door. Kiersten Modglin has done it again! While the Dinner Guests was not my favorite book of hers (that honor goes to the Arrangement), it was still amazing! Full of thrills, twists and turns that I've come to expect after reading several of her novels. I devoured this audiobook in one sitting. I was late to a graduation party because I couldn't stop listening.
This story is about a group of friends that went to school together and have maintained a friendship into adulthood. Those friends, along with a newcomer to their group are invited to a dinner party by a couple who has just moved into the neighborhood. What ensues is an escape room adventure like no other.
I must say that this is the first book of Modglin's that I have guessed any of the twists. That did not ruin it for me, but I was surprised that I was right, because most of my predictions end up way off. What I enjoy about her books is that all of her characters are somewhat unlikeable, but yet I can always empathize with them because she writes them to be relatable to everyone. Despite questionable and despicable actions, I can always see a part of myself within her pages. This is why she is one of my favorite authors! I liked the audio for Piper and Lake, but the narrator for Bethany was annoying. Granted, so was Bethany's character, but I would have better enjoyed someone else's reading. Four solid stars! Modglin has hit another one out of the park! Keep them coming!

I received the audiobook version of The Dinner Guests by Kiersten Modglin. The story is told from three of the characters' perspectives. The story reads like a cross between I Know What You Did Last Summer, Saw, and Escape Room. The storyline was okay, and I was able to kind of figure out what was going to happen, a bit predictable.
Overall, I was able to listen to the audiobook in a day and was able to do chores while listening, which was a plus. The Dinner Guests was not one of my favorites of Kiersten Modglin's, but it was still enjoyable and a good, fast read.
I will read more from this author.

Escape the room meets the ultimate confession. I love K. Mod’s thrillers, but this one wasn’t for me. Keeping track of all of the characters and their respective relationships was challenging at times, and sometimes felt a little ridiculous. I am still a K. Mod fan and will try anything she writes!

2.5 stars, rounded up to 3 for Goodreads.
Thank you to Netgalley and the author and publisher for this ARC copy of The Dinner Guests!
So, this was not a personal favorite of mine from Kiersten Modglin but I am still happy I read it. I am in the process of reading all of her work. If you are also reading all of her work or have read many of her books, and want to get an idea of what this one is like, I feel like this one compares to The Dream Job in terms of the plausibility of the plot and the twists, I guess, for lack of a better way to describe it.
One of the very best things about Kiersten Modglin is that I can read her books even when I don't feel like reading. Her books can always get me out of a reading slump. There is something so approachable about her books. They are reader friendly. Another thing I think is really fun about her work is that she uses multiple twists- sometimes there is just twist after twist after twist after twist after twist. It's just so fun. This book was no exception- lots of twists abound in this one. =)

A new couple builds a wall around their house at the end of the street and invites the neighbors over for dinner. Some of them receive weird messages on their plates about secrets and lies so they decide to leave early, but find that they can’t. From this point forward, buckle up and enjoy as the story unfolds!
I was definitely along for this over the top ride, but it did get off the rails a bit at the end for me.
Kudos to the narrators for an excellent job all around!
*Thanks to the author, Dreamscape Media, and NetGalley for this advance audio copy for review.

Let me start with the caveat that I am a Kiersten Modglin fan. I've read several of her books and follow her writing account on Instagram. She inspires me with her volumes of books and her likeable author persona. When I saw this one pop up on Netgalley, my fingers couldn't hit request fast enough.
As a 6 hour audiobook, this one was started and finished in a day (plus it kept me company doing the necessary household cleaning). I literally listened from beginning to end in about 7 hours only stopping when my husband was rude enough to want to interact with me WHILE I WAS ENJOYING A BOOK. The nerve.
The setting was a close knit neighborhood of friends, a new unknown neighbor, a "sketchy" invite to dine with the stranger and an Agatha Christie meets Escape Room vibe. But unlike a normal escape room where only shame awaits the loser, this one was set up with disappearances and mystery. A solid book. As an audio I enjoyed the use of three narrators (all female, all with slightly different styles) to move the past/present story to its conclusion.
If you are a KMO fan you may not adore this one as much as some of her earlier work, I'm thinking The Arrangement here, but it's a good story. Perfect for a beach read. As for stars, I hate that they are required. Was it a 4? Probably not, but it's definitely higher than a 3. So, let's split the difference and say 3.49 and I don't regret spending my day with The Dinner Guests.
Thank you to Netgalley and, especially to Dreamscape Media, for allowing me to listen in advance of the June 30, 2022 release date.

I typically love Kiersten Modglin as she is a master of unexpected twists. However I found The Dinner Guests to be a bit slow and at times boring. Initially I found this book very easy to get into and eagerly waited to see where this story was going to go. But once the “secret” was revealed what followed was a little lackluster. I still love the author and have a great respect for how quickly she turns out books but this one just didn’t surprise me as many of her others have.
