Really liked this. A uniquely creepy story, however has echoes of a book I've previously read called 'A gift for dying' by MJ Arlidge. Saying that, I loved the character of Izzy and the plot was excellent.

A suspenseful twisty tale. Empathetic Izzy can tell when someone is lying. When she sees the local school caretaker on TV as a witness to a schoolgirl abduction, she must convince the police he's a cunning serial killer. Intense and fast-paced read.

4 Stars from me

As creepy as you'd fully expect a David Jackson thriller to be, No Secrets had me hooked throughout.

Main character Izzy has a sweet job in a bookstore and tries to live a pretty standard life but she walks the difficult line of being able to tell when people ore lying. Sounds like a good thing but from a young age she found out that it has its downsides.

Now, when young girls start going missing in her town and Izzy gets a feeling that someone she knows isn't telling the truth, she feels honour bound to help out. Without any evidence and just her own flimsy protestations to back up her 'evidence' Izzy gets nowhere fast when she speaks to the police.

There are some really sweet moments in No Secrets (alongside the creepfest) and hugely appreciate the author weaving these in as they add so much to the reading experience.

Izzy's methods of convincing people of her 'abilities' were really entertaining and I enjoyed the way she used her empathetic skills to try and save the girls.

I didn't enjoy how much she put herself in danger, No Secrets had far too many 'don't go down into the cellar' moments for my liking!

Overall a very entertaining read and I look forward to reading more from this author.

It took me a while to get into the story, but I’m glad I stuck with it. The characterisation was deftly built as the book progressed and I found myself becoming more invested in the outcome. A sinister and original plot- it certainly didn’t go as I expected!

Any new David Jackson's thriller is better than the previous and each of them kept me on the edge, was emotionally charged and full of suspence.
This one is full of surprises, well plotted and riveting. I love the storytelling and loved Izzy.
It's one of those book that keeps always on the edge and full of unexpected twists.
Highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine

Fantastic thriller with in-depth characterizations, troubled pasts and broading tension. This one got me out of a reading slump. If you like the series Lie to Me, you‘ll enjoy this novel. David Jackson‘s thriller The Rule was excellent as well, so I‘ll definitely keep up reading his upcoming releases.

Thank you NetGalley / Serpent‘s Tail for providing me with this novel in exchange of an honest review.

Highly enjoyable page turner. The main character Izzy Lambert has a unique gift and it certainly makes this novel a bit different than expected. Well rounded characters, rapidly moving plot and more twists than a mountain road. Recommended.

Five star read! A gripping thriller that starts on simmer and builds to a boil. Dazzlingly clever, twisting and constantly surprising. An unputdownable rollercoaster of a read. The opening is atmospheric and completely absorbing. Immersive, pacy and unputdownable. Like a chess game with multiple layers and complex characters, all leading to a shocking, explosive ending. Brilliantly plotted, with a crisp pace and constant surprises. Lures you in until you can’t escape. Nothing and no one is quite what they seem. So gripping from the first page to the last. Fast paced, unpredictable and original with a twist that made me gasp out loud. Dramatic, atmospheric and fast paced.

This was a fantastic psychological thriller. I love how the female protagonist had the special power of knowing when someone is lying. It really made this book so interesting. It was such I fantastic and unique story-line that is a proper page turner. The characters in this book developed so well especially isabelle and Kenneth it really made the story realistic and super excited. It will keep you on your toes and it is a real roller coaster ride. That is packed full of twists and turns. I couldn't put this book down and had to sit and read it in the park instead of walking the dog lol.

Oh the ending! I am not going to give anything away but your going to love just how twisted it is. I didn't see it coming.

I definitely recommend this book to all those thriller fans who just love them dark and twisty books that will have you on the edge of your seat. I will definitely be looking out of more books by this brilliant author

So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating such an exciting medium to fast paced novel that I am sure you will love. This book should become a bestseller.

The story:
To Isobel Lambert, everyone she knows is an open book. So when she sees her former school caretaker on the news discussing the last time he saw a missing girl, she knows beyond doubt that he is lying.

But what can she do about it, when all she has is her feeling, and a track record of making people uncomfortable with her insights?

When another girl goes missing, this time a close friend of Izzy’s, she is pushed to take increasingly desperate measures. But will she be able to bring the man she’s so sure is guilty to justice?

My thoughts:
I was a bit uncertain about the premise of this book when I began it; the idea that Izzy, the lead character, could tell without fail whenever anyone close to her was telling her a lie. But what I enjoyed about this book is the practicality of it — the author at no time tries to make us think that Izzy has ‘magic powers’, but a heightened sense of empathy for those she knows well.

While you might consider this to be a great skill to have, as we get to know various incidents from Izzy’s life past and present, it becomes clear what a burden it is, and how difficult it is for Izzy to know the right thing to do with her knowledge. It has led to her isolating herself from all but a select group of people around her, choosing a quiet existence surrounded by the books she loves.

But with such an extreme example of a lie confronting her, Izzy feels she has to do all she can to make the police believe her, regardless of her own safety, which made me really enjoy her as a character.

Although a lot of what is going on with the missing girls is revealed to us as it happens, there are still plenty of twists and turns in the tale that kept me on my toes and surprised me! I’d highly recommend this one to all crime and psychological thriller fans and I look forward to reading more by the author now I’ve discovered him!

Thank you to NetGalley & the publishers Viper for this ARCin exchange for an honest review.

This is the first book I have read by this author and certainly won’t be the last! It was such a good fast paced read, with humour and thrills. Completely riveting and the ending was highly satisfying. Definitely recommend.

This is a really good physiological thriller. It has many twist and turns and you really want the main character to be proved right and to be believed by the police. It is a cat and mouse tail with danger thrown in. A very well written book.

This certainly was one twisty ride. Izzy is a 20 something working in a bookstore, spending her evenings at home with her partner Andrea (Andy). One evening during a news broadcast, Izzy sees her old college caretaker, Kenneth, being interviewed as an eyewitness to a school girl who has gone missing. Kenneth claims he had seen her get into a flash car with a possibly foreign man. Trouble is Izzy knows he is lying. Izzy has the ability to read people and is never wrong. She takes her concerns to the police who at first ignore her. When she shows up at the police station and insists that Kenneth is guilty, Kenneth is questioned again. The thing is no evidence can be found to link Kenneth to the missing girl.
As the police dismiss Kenneth as a suspect, Izzy starts to follow him. Soon those she questions are in danger.
This was a face paced read with a good twist at the end. I recommend.

A absolutely sublime book with intelligent writing, fantastic characters and a truly brilliant plot.

I was also taken with the main character working in a bookshop!

Another excellent book by David Jackson!

This time it involved Izzy. She worked in a bookshop, but her talent, or was it a curse? lay in being able to read peoples emotions and allowing her to know when someone is lying.

She tries to use her talent for good, but as you can imagine it doesn't go well. No one wants to believe her. They all think she's a crackpot, seeking attention apart from the lovely Detective Josh Frendy.

Despite this, through sheer determination? bravery? She keeps going. I didn't know whether to admire her courage, determination, bravery or tell her to stop putting herself in danger especially when noone seemed to believe her.

David Jackson definitely knows how to write a thriller with plenty of action, dark humour and wit and he's done it again with this one!

I definitely recommend this!

Thank you to PH, NetGalley, David Jackson and publishers Serpent's Tail / Viper / Profile Books for the chance to read this book.

Did I like the book?

As the title is No Secrets, I won’t keep you waiting… YES, I liked the book! Very much! This is the third novel by David Jackson that I read and he never fails to surprise me. Although very different, all his stories have that X-factor that makes you go look up his Amazon page in the hope you’ll see a new book coming soon.

Did I enjoy reading it?

His writing is smooth as a baby’s cheek, but don’t be fooled, it is anything but simple. It only enhances the genius of his storytelling. It’s always a treat to read his words and meet the characters he creates. Well, most of them!!!

What did I feel?

Very happy to get a main character who loves books as much as we do and who works in an awesome bookshop. Not a pretentious one, just the one at the corner of the street, the one that feels full of promises. Just like this book. Because Izzie is not just fond of books (even though this detail is enough to mark her as awesome) Izzie is a human reader. A reader of human behavior. Not in a profiling, Criminal Minds way. She naturally picks up details that most of us would make no notes of. She can’t help it. Would you consider it a gift or a curse? I think up to a point, I’d enjoy it. It reminded me of how Donna, from Suits, reads and interprets people, but… it has its downsides. Izzie has been burned by the effects of her abilities in the past. Yet when she picks up something about a current missing girl case, she can’t shut up. I like to think I wouldn’t shut up either. I usually can’t, for real. I blabber all the time! But Izzie is no superhero, she doesn’t have privileged contacts in the police force, no best friend in charge of anything, so what to do? I truly marvelled at how the author depicted Izzie’s internal and external struggles. Good intentions don’t always lead to the best outcomes, and again, Izzie is reminded of it the hard way. Who would listen? What to do with that gut feeling that is so strong but no one will listen? Izzie is a smart and fascinating character I loved to discover. And she was not the only one…

The plot itself fooled me for a long time. It sounded straightforward, focusing how on Izzie would make people listen to her before another girl disappeared. Ha ha. The joke was on me. I was so sure I’d seen right through the book that the ending made me gasp. Oh, you missed that, lady! Don’t you love it when those moments happen?

How would I describe it?

Original, character-driven
