I have read a couple of this authors other books and really enjoyed them so was excited to read this one. This book was fast paced and full of twists, keeping my attention all the way through. I loved the charters and there was a lot of dark humour as well. I absolutely loved it and this is one of my favourite reads this year so far.

THEY BELIEVE HIS LIES. SHE KNOWS THE TRUTH.

You can't lie to Izzy Lambert. Her highly developed empathic abilities allow her to read people's emotions with terrifying accuracy - and consequences. As a child her insights sparked her parents' divorce. As an adult she avoids getting too close to people for fear of what she might learn.

But now young girls are going missing in her town. The police have no suspects but, seeing her old school caretaker interviewed on the news about the story, Izzy comes to a chilling realisation: he knows where the missing girls are. When the police won't take her seriously despite the lives at stake, she will risk everything to uncover the truth.

I love me some David Jackson. “No Secrets” is a fabulously gripping thriller, which I devoured in a day. No Secrets is undoubtedly another guaranteed page turner of a read by the author. He creates the best protagonists which has the reader routing for them throughout. The story is a bit like a cat and mouse chase of which you think you know exactly what is going to happen only for things to take different turns which kept me on the edge of my seat. As I have come to expect from this author, there are some great twists that I didn’t see coming and overall this was an exhilarating thrill fest of a read.

I love bookshops and libraries, so was delighted that a lot of the action takes place in a bookshop. It is very fast paced and the action leaves you breathless and unable to stop reading. There is an incredibly dangerous game of cat and mouse being played and it is both believable and scary.

The plotting, as with all David’s books, is brilliant. The pace is perfect and the suspense is shared throughout the story. It has loads off twists and turns and the ending is brilliant. It’s a fab read and I can’t wait for his next book. I’d highly recommend this book to everyone who enjoys thrillers and well written books.

My thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing an arc in exchange for an unbiased review.

Honestly I really loved this book. Past tense.

The story and character building were fantastic. Then I got to the last few percent, and when I say "I didn't see the twist coming" I don't mean it in the best way.

I thought given how imaginative the book was, the story would finish on a bit of a better note. I literally couldn't put it down, then when I got to the end I couldn't finish it fast enough, disappointed but I loved the authors other books so it's not putting me off buying.

Another excellent page turner from David Jackson who writes memorable thrillers which stand out from the pack.

This time round we meet Izzy, a young woman from a bookshop, whose intuition suggests that the old school caretaker has been abducting women. The man himself is bound up in a dreadful relationship with his odious Russian wife who has a thing for the lodger.

This is definitely one of those “just one more chapter” stories that has you hooked. Looking forward to the next one.

When a local girl goes missing, bookseller Izzy recognises the last person to see the missing girl speaking on the television, but more than that, she knows he is lying when he says he knows nothing about what happened to her.

Izzy's empathetic gift of being able to read people's emotions is sometimes more of a curse, but she knows she can't ignore this and needs to tell the police. Being used to people not taking her abilities seriously, she starts to do some investigating to try and get some more concrete proof to take with her, but is she just putting herself in the line of fire?

This was a great read. The prologue drew me in straight away, then with some brilliant characters like Izzy and Josh to get behind throughout the gripping plot, it us highly recommended from me!

No Secrets By David Jackson
David Jackson is different. His books are addictive, his stories are imaginative. He thinks outside the box and this makes his books page turners.
No secrets tell the tale of Izzy, who's gift is reading peoples emotions and the ability to tell when someone is lying. When the caretaker of her former school appears on TV as a potential witness to the abduction of a young girl, Izzy knows instantly that he is not telling the truth and so our story begins.
This is a great read. The writing is good, all the characters are well fleshed out and this is a super cat and mouse thriller.
I flew through this book and couldn't put it down. It was in my hands every spare moment I had. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys thrillers.
I would like to thank Netgalley the author, and Serpent’s Tail/Viper/Profile books for providing an early copy in exchange for my honest review.
Well worth your time and hard-earned cash.

I received a hardback copy of No Secrets from the publishers in exchange of an honest feedback. This suspenseful and chilling thriller has been a pleasure to read and review.
This book gripped me from page one, and kept my attention throughout. It was action packed, thrilling and an interesting tale of an ever increasing web of lies, and knowing the truth that nearly cost the main character’s life.
I liked the character development in this serial killer novel, I also liked the plot and the ‘who has done it’ moment in the book. It was very easy to give this book 5 stars, I’d give it 6 if I could.
It is the first book that I’ve read by the author but I cannot wait to read more. I cannot believe I’ve never read David Jackson’s books, as he has written 11. I need to add this writer into my reading list. I recommend this book to all thriller, crime novel, serial killer book readers.

Girls are going missing and Izzy thinks she knows who is responsible. Blessed/burdened with the gift of knowing if someone is telling the truth she believes a key witness is lying. this leads to a series of unfortunate events and a sinister game of Simon Says...

Kept me on the edge of my seat all the way through and didn’t see the twist coming at all. A great read. Thanks for the opportunity to read

Thanks to David and NetGalley for allowing me to read No Secrets before the publication date.

Intriguingly the first chapter involves a girl called Rosie who is playing the children’s game, Simon says, which creates a creepy atmosphere.

23 year old Izzy is a quiet, sensitive young woman who has always been happier in a world of books.
She learned early in her life that she had an ability to determine when someone lies.
What might be described as a super power is equally a liability.
Izzy has found herself in the situation where calling someone out on their lies has had unexpected consequences.

When young girls start disappearing in her home town, the caretaker at Izzy’s old school gives an interview on television.
Izzy is convinced that he is lying. The question is why? Is he involved in the disappearance or does he just want his 5 minutes of fame?

Contacting the police to tell them what she believes, she is not taken seriously.
Unfortunately knowing that someone is lying is different from having hard evidence.
This makes her all the more determined to uncover the truth and find the missing girls.
She rapidly escalates to being viewed as the girl who cried wolf.

The complexity of the characters is well developed as will be revealed in the book.
This is a page turner with secrets and lies aplenty.

4.5 rounded up

A chilling game of ‘Simon Says’, Izzy who works in a bookshop who has highly developed empathetic qualities and a school caretaker, Kenneth Plumley who Izzy KNOWS is lying. Can she convince DS Josh Frendy that she is telling the truth?

Wow. This is my first read by David Jackson and it certainly won’t be the last as he sure can write an exciting thriller. I love the Izzy angle and she’s a really good character who tries to do the right thing. There are some great scenes between her and Josh who is also very likeable and with terrific dialogue to boot! The book has some excellent settings especially the bookshop Izzy works in, one particularly lively one!

This is a twisted and twisted tale that is very well written, it’s lively, fast paced and very intense at times making it a hard novel to put down. The tension is almost off the scale in places as a dangerous and blood freezing game of cat and mouse ensues. I do begin to suss it all out but I have to admit only just before the final suspenseful denouement!

Overall, a well plotted and pacy mystery thriller and one to recommend to fans of the genre.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Serpents Tail/Viper/Profile for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review. Special thanks for the email newsletter which drew this book to my attention. I wouldn’t have wanted to miss this one!

Rosie's gone missing
Izzy can read body language and emotions
Kenneth is the school caretaker and Izzy knows he is lying but can she prove it?

Great beginning, I totally misunderstood initially then it became clear. High impact start drawing the reader in. I liked having one character pov per chapter for the first three, really set the scene.

I enjoyed the constant additions of character depth throughout the book especially Izzy and Plumley. And also the police and Polina at the appropriate time.

I like the idea of reading body language, being an empath and how that affects a person, drives them, but also the burden of taking on another's feelings.

It almost felt like, as the reader, we were in Izzy's head, feeling what she feels, the way she does to other people and their emotions.

I had worked out a small part of the ending but there were still big surprises. I felt the story came full circle at the end which was very satisfying. The epilogue was lovely and I adored the final words.

This line stood out for me - "A human mirror for emotions both positive and negative"

Izzy Lambert has something a little like a superpower. Her highly empathic abilities allow her to read people’s emotions. And lies. So when the caretaker of her former school appears on tv as a potential witness to the abduction of a young girl, Izzy knows instantly that he is not telling the truth. Bringing this information to the police is about as useful as banging her head against a brick wall. Nobody believes her. Only one thing remains for Izzy to do. Uncover the truth by herself. But that way lies danger.

To be honest, David Jackson’s books and I haven’t really been getting along that well lately. I was a massive fan of the DS Nathan Cody series but for some reason, Jackson’s stand-alones have been leaving me rather underwhelmed so far. (Sorry, David!) But I’m stubborn and I keep reading his books because I’m hopeful that our author/reader relationship will be restored. Also, come on, who could possibly resist that intriguing blurb?

The main protagonist, Izzy, is a fabulous character. Instantly likeable, she managed to get me completely on her side from the very beginning. Also because, she’s living the dream by working in a bookshop, surrounded by lovely books all day long. I may have been somewhat jealous. Just like I was jealous of her ability to know when someone is telling a lie. At first that sounded infinitely cool until you’re faced with the consequences of, for instance, breaking up your parents’ marriage. Suddenly it’s decidedly less cool and you’re left to wonder : if you *do* know someone is lying, should you always let that fact be known? I do so love it when a story makes me think things through like this.

Izzy’s pursuit of Kenneth, the caretaker, becomes more tense as the story goes on. The reader is also offered an insight into Kenneth’s life. To say it’s a mess seems to be quite the understatement and yet, like the horrible person I am, I found it pretty hard to care about him. Although I suspect I wasn’t really supposed to. Maybe. In any case, as much as Izzy is immensely likeable, Kenneth is most definitely not. Another likeable character comes in the shape of DS Frendy who, for reasons of his own, wants to help Izzy even if it lands him in trouble with his bosses.

I thoroughly enjoyed “No Secrets” but I did have a few niggles. Let me just say this is quite possibly just me being extremely nit-picky because I seem to be turning into somewhat of a curmudgeonly old bat lately. There are moments where a character or two acted so incredibly stupidly that my eyes nearly rolled out of my head. Here comes the vagueness : there is something a certain character does, involving an animal, which I already hated, but that in hindsight also felt completely out of character for that particular character. I’m not sure I used the word “character” enough here. And then there’s the conclusion of the story, which I’m not entirely sure made sense and made me feel as if I should re-read the book.

That said! Did I mention I enjoyed it? Helped by the refreshing premise, I found ‘No Secrets‘ highly entertaining, full of suspense and immensely addictive. This is definitely a binge-read story so make sure you carve out enough time to finish it in one sitting. I’m pleased to say this particular author/reader relationship has been restored and this time I’m definitely not underwhelmed. I’m very much looking forward to David Jackson’s next offering!

Izzy can tell your secrets, it’s a gift or a curse but she knows if you’re lying. When girls start to go missing she knows that someone is not as they seem.
I haven’t read many of David books but I will be making an effort to read some more. I really enjoyed this. Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.

No Secrets is mainly based on Isobel (Izzy) and her gift. She has always been able to "read" people, pick up on their feelings, truths and lies. The story quickly sucks you in and doesn't want to let go. Just when you think you have it figured out, bang another twist, another clue, another dead end. Brilliantly written 5 star read

Izzy Lambert has always struggled to keep close relationships with other people including her own family. Izzy has hyper-empathy and is extremely sensitive to the emotions of the people around her. Once she gets to know someone, she knows instantly if they are lying or telling the truth and can become completely overwhelmed by their feelings.

Izzy is watching the news with her partner when she sees a police report about a missing girl. The girl is a student at her former school and she immediately recognises the school caretaker giving an interview as the last person to see Rosie leaving the school grounds. The problem is that Izzy is 100% sure that Kenneth the caretaker is lying. Concerned about how to move forward with this information, Izzy meets with police detective Josh who promises to look into her accusations but unfortunately Izzy's 'gift' isn't concrete proof of any wrongdoing. This leaves Izzy with no choice, to convince everyone that her gut feeling about Kenneth is right, she will have to take matters into her own hands.

I read a LOT of crime and thriller books, so I always love it when an author comes up with a truly inventive twist on a murder mystery. Izzy and her empathy gave a really unique perspective to a murder investigation and allowed some very frustrating exchanges between Izzy and Josh, as she desperately tries to convince him that her suspicions about Kenneth are correct. At first I wasn't convinced that anyone would be bold enough (or reckless enough!) to push themselves onto a serious police investigation based on a feeling, but as I read on, it became clear that the resentment Izzy had towards her empathy and the trouble it had caused for her throughout her life, meant that she was determined to try and do something worthwhile with her 'gift', even if it put her own life at risk.

No Secrets is a highly entertaining thriller which will I'm sure will be a favourite with many book bloggers. Having Izzy working in a bookshop gave plenty of opportunities to add in discussions about reading, books and reading habits which was a nice addition to break up the main storyline. A few of the comments and relationships in the book had a black comedy side to them which I really enjoyed, I personally think that dark humour in a crime thriller can work really well and No Secrets is a perfect example. Lots of twists, some interesting characters and a few creepy moments in the woods... what more could you want!

Thanks to NetGalley and Viper Books for the chance to read an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a bit of a slower burn, character driven book but also has a doozy of a crime to be investigated. Our main character, Izzy, has an unusual ability. That of knowing when someone is lying. This has been more of a curse than a blessing as there are many incidents during her life where it has caused chaos. Her father's infidelity, a problem with a classmate, and others I will leave you to discover as the author intends. So when she watches an interview with her old school caretaker, her spidey senses are piqued when he lies about something quite key to the case. The case being the abduction of young girls. So, she goes to the police, as anyone with evidence would. Obviously she is not taken seriously, and she is so sure of what she knows, so she again does what anyone else would do (probably), she takes matters into her own hands... at her own peril...
I've read a lot by this author and I do love his style. Stand alones and the Nathan Cody series have all been top notch. I really should try his other series - so little time - so I was quite excited to get my hands on this book, and it didn't disappoint.
I took to Izzy right from the start. There are quite a few layers to her as a character as when we first meet her she is quite a simple soul but then when we delve deeper, peel back each layer, as she becomes more rounded, she also becomes more complicated, with more pain in her past. Which makes what she does all the more special. Especially the old couple in the bookstore where she works...
The crime itself is well plotted and that plot expertly executed. It had me spinning around trying to cut through the secrets & lies to get to the truth. Which, when it came, shocked and thoroughly satisfied me.
All in all, another winner from an author now cemented on my watch list. Roll on next time. My thanks go to the Publisher and Netgalley for the chance to read this book.

For those who follow my blog, you will know that David Jackson is one of my “go-to” authors and there is nothing more exciting that being invited onto the blogtour to read his latest standalone crime thriller No Secrets, out on 7th July 2022.

Imagine having the ability to “read people”, to know when they are lying. Well that is the “gift” 23 year old Izzy was born with. She, however doesn’t think it’s a gift – to her it’s a curse so she lives a very insular and quiet life with her partner Andy and works in a book shop.

When a young girl goes missing locally, the media interview the last person to see her, Kenneth Plumley, her old school janitor and Izzy’s spidery skills start to tingle because she KNOWS without a shadow of a doubt that Kenneth is LYING.

Now Izzy finds herself trying to convince the police that Kenneth is lying but with no actual evidence they can’t take her seriously and with more girls disappearing the clock is ticking to solve this case.

No Secrets is a fast paced thriller which David Jackson never fails to deliver. With some fascinating and flawed characters and a heroine with a very dry sense of humour, No Secrets kept me gripped until the very last page.

There are some deeply disturbing scenes in this book and some killer twists which I did not see coming at all.

If you like your books with a dash of darkness, a sprinkling of suspense, a measure of murder and tablespoons of twists then you should buy this book now.

Yet again. David Jackson has written another absolutely brilliant read. This author is fast becoming one of favourites. I don’t even read the blurb for his books anymore I just want to read the book. No secrets is basically a crime thriller and it’s one which had me totally engrossed from the very start. A dark and gritty crime thriller and as is the norm with this author some dark humour thrown in at times. Highly recommend.
