Into the Mist is a bit different than what I typically read. I used to be a huge fan of PC Cast’s House of Night series. But my reading tastes moved from all things vampires to thrillers/mysteries.
I want to start by saying that though the ending of this book set things up perfectly for the next book, I don’t like the ending at all. I don’t like it so much that my rating dropped just because of it. Rounding up to 4 stars. I really hope that the character Ford isn’t going to be taken in the direction that I think he is.
The book in general was good. I enjoyed it. I did like the writing style as well. I was very intrigued and wanting to keep reading. I noticed a lot of people went into this book with what *they* ‘wanted’ it to be. I went in with no expectations. I’m happy with the way it was written. It had plenty of hard or tough content. But there was also a bit of humor here and there. A bit of light to combat the dark.
Most of the characters for this book were likable. I don’t think I can pick a favorite. Mercury, Gemma, Stella, Ford, Jenny, Imani - they all had their own quirks and personalities. At first, Karen really got on my nerves. She seemed so closed minded and judgmental. But she lightened up over the book and I ended up liking her.
I’m very curious as to how the next book will go. There is still so much unknown!
Lorelei King is an amazing narrator for this book. She made it so easy to get lost in the story. I never once had to stop and try to figure out who was speaking or what was going on.

A group of teachers are driving home from a teaching conference when The United States is attacked.
Bombs hit triggering earthquakes and a green mist begins to settle on the earth.
The mist is deadly to men. But to women It seems to give them special abilities. But that does not mean the women are safe.

This book had a strong season two of The Walking Dead type Feel. When you start realizing the zombies (the mist) is not the strongest monster out there… especially when you can just drive away from it.

I don’t know how many books are planned in the series.
I hope it’s a duology, in which case I would read it. But I don’t think I could handle a fun multi book series of this.

Quote: “What level of Jumanji are we on?”

“If they catch us we’ll be Stepford-ed or Handmaid’s Taled—or worse.”

“There’s nothing wrong with being a rebel—as long as you’re rebelling against the right things.”

This wasn’t like any other book I’ve read. It was a dystopian, post apocalyptic girl power story with walking dead vibes. Ok, no zombies…just lots of green fog and gelatinous mass…ya know like jello. Gross right?! Yeah well if you’re a female you don’t have to worry about it. Guys however…well, may you Rest In Peace.

In fact, if you’re a female you might just walk away more badass than you started.

I really enjoyed the pacing of this book, as well as the character development. The descriptions throughout were well done, I could picture everything so vividly, esp the scene in the rain with the wildflowers (if this gets turned into a movie…don’t let me down with this scene).

I cannot wait to read the next installment and think this book would be so cool as a movie.

What a perfect book about men going away and womanhood arising, I really needed this after the current events happing here in the USA.
When the US is under attack, bombs create a weird green gas the emits and all men die but the woman survive and gain superhuman abilities,
With these new strengths and powers comes big responsibility and may impact the survival and womanhood going forward.
This book was more scientific than I am used to but I did appreciate the intermingle of spirits and yogi practices.

This was a bit of a slow start. for me. A poor beginning with badly written dialogue and characters who fail to come across as real people. After chapter 2 I was ready to put this book down and be done with it, but I’m glad I stuck it out. The story is interesting and the fast paced nature of the plot made it hard to put down.
The stories developments and general premise kept me reading despite some lackluster character development. There was just something about it that felt preachy, and I say that as a leftist in full agreement with the author on what she's trying to demonstrate. I agreed with exactly where the author was coming from, I just wish it had been handled a little more delicately. The main characters Mercury, Stella, Karen, and Imani are all interesting in their own way, but everyone except Imani feels somewhat fake, wooden.
I was very drawn to the premise of middle aged teachers stranded at a ski lodge in the apocalypse. Throw in super powers and I was SOLD. Despite not being completely in love with the book, I look forward to continuing the series.

WOW! Into the Mist had a little bit of everything. When I first heard of this book, I was interested for sure but not completely sold on it. Well I am so glad I decided to pick it up because it was so freaking good. Action-packed from the very beginning and had me binge reading like crazy, I didn't want to put it down, and had plenty of edge of your seat moments!

The pros: Strong female characters, interesting premise, supernatural vibes, well-paced, believable conflict (for the circumstances of course), apocalyptic setting, and some creepy characters along the way to add the perfect amount of tension.

The cons: TOOO MANY unanswered questions and some parts are slightly predictable.
I know my main issue with the book will be resolved as the series progresses but I wish there were some answers about the origins/background of the mist and the explosions in the first place. Also WHAT was the ending? I just wanted MORE!

Overall I highly recommend checking this one out!

Thanks so much to Netgalley, Dreamscape Media and Publishers for my advanced copy, Opinions are honest and my own.

A fun, apocalyptic premis that could have been done better. I wanted to like it more than I did but it was still entertaining. After bombs accompanied by a mysterious green mist hit while a group of teachers are of a retreat, life as they know it is forever altered. Men die brutally when they come in contact with the mist, while many of the women develop superhuman skills. I feel like it was marketed as this femenist fantasy but I couldn['t really vibe with it because it felt forced. It seemed like the charcters were trying too hard to be edgy and cool so it didn't feel authentic. The other thing that bothered me was that they had it so easy for it being an extreme apocalypse situation...everything just kept falling into place in a way that felt extremely unrealistic. Overall, I'm sure it was enjoyable for some more than others and it was kinda fun. I listened to it as an audiobook, thanks to the publisher and NetGalley.

A story that follows a group of teachers on the days right after the end of the world. Some sort of biological toxin was bombed across America that seemed to kill all men but improve the women. The women must follow their instincts to stay alive and rely on each other as the remaining humans alive can’t all be trusted.

This was an odd story for me. Mainly because it creeped me out and gave me some not fun dreams. The book was intense through out and the ending left me with a possible theory as a cliffhanger.

A post apocalyptic world where females have powers after a nuclear explosion. This audiobook was sooo freaking good. I got into it immediately and it was action packed from the start. Lots of twists and turns and the world building was so good. It made me feel like I was there with them trying to find a place to start a new life. I'm very excited for the next book.

I haven’t picked up a PC Cast book since stumbling upon her Marked series in high school SO I was extremely excited and had high expectations of this novel. However, between the extremely graphic violence and force-fed sociopolitical commentary, this book was not for me. The preoccupation with hitting her “talking points” rather than harnessing her story craft (aka show me don’t tell me) created a YA book with extreme levels of graphic violence rather than a poignant adult Science-Fiction Fantasy. However, most of this book felt like a data dump world-building exercise. (In her defense this is the first novel in a series SO I do expect a bit of Data Dump) The concept (excellent Idea), tension (pacing was spot on), and excellent narration (5 stars) had me continuing to flip pages. However, the magic of PC Cast was lost on me with this latest iteration. I won’t be picking up book 2.

Due to my low rating, I will refrain from posting my opinion on Amazon Audible GoodReads & Instagram

Teachers on their way back home from a conference see the city explode before them, and a green mist float up and kill all the men in their group. Not knowing where to go or what to do, they head back to the lodge they were just staying in. It is there they find out some of the women that where touched by the mist now have special abilities. One of which is Stella, whose gut instinct ability is hugely heightened, now knows they must leave and leave soon before the big snow fall comes and they would take anyone who wanted to go with them. That left them a rag tag group heading east.
This was a great book and I had the awesome audio-book narrated by Lorelei King, who does awesome voices for each character in the book. The story itself is will pull at all your emotions as the group travels east. It is actually hard to believe that they make it as far as they did in this (I hope) the first book still being sane. I can’t wait to see what happens next to our group

Thank you to NetGalley for the early look at this book. I agreed to read it because I knew Cast’s name from her vampire literature in the (early 2000s?). I’m not a huge fan, but I can respect that this author is committed to her craft.

I liked the way this story began—teachers at an academic conference with a car full of colleagues (the grumpy principal and the overly-strict teacher, etc.) when “it” happens. It’s gruesome and unnerving. And interesting. . .until it isn’t.

I read through 40%, until the group of of self-appointed “feminist” leaders were lecturing the wounded about creating a utopian society run by THE WOMENS while putting men down. Just, please, no. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Anyway, I refused to participate for another minute of its misguided righteousness into the green mists. It was preachy and embarrassing and it makes my soul sad to see the word “feminist” in the description of this book. Ugh. So, while Cast is a talented writer who can create an interesting idea, I’m sad she forcefully inserted a matriarchal power structure intent on shaming men as a foundation. I wish I could sit down and have a talk with her about the value of equality not based on mimicry of the exploitation that came before it. A balance of power requires balance—not overpowering “the other.”

Wow! I enjoyed this book a great deal. I am trying to keep this as spoiler-free as possible. Into The Mist was compelling and difficult to stop reading. The premise is fascinating, and P. C. Cast created a vivid, story-rich world and an apocalypse that feels real. The characters are fun and, though overall a bit lacking in dimension, I enjoyed spending time with these intelligent and witty survivors.

This book takes you on a journey and it is an engrossing character study filled with what if/what would you do scenarios. You will find yourself thinking, "I wouldn't do that," or "that is exactly what I would do." As any good apocalypse story should do this book asks some important philosophical questions. What happens when humanity is pushed to its limit? Who do they become? How do they function?

Lorelei King does a great job giving voice to this world and all of its inhabitants.

Into the mist was both my first P.C. Cast book and the first installment of a new series by the author. I am excited to read more.

While leaving a professional development retreat, a group of teachers witness a mass bombing on the us. The. I’m sorry not only do great damage, but also release a gas that does terrible things to men and mysterious things to women.

Stella, Mercury, Jenny and Karen are all that’s left standing from their group. As in all apocalyptic stories they face choosing who’s trustworthy and basic survival as their group grows and shrinks when new places are found or dangers faced.

Then, at the very end, a new threat is revealed.

The characters like to pontificate a lot. It would’ve been a interesting layer to explore why the fog affected men and women so differently (was it testosterone vs estrogen) and what that would look like for trans people or even women in menopause or with pcos if hormones are what determined effect. If it wasn’t hormones I need some kind of explanation as to how the dog new man vs woman.

Thank you Netgalley for the advance audiobook copy of Into the Most by P. C. Cast in exchange for an honest review. I am really getting hooked on Cast. I loved this book and the amazing, strong, confident women. I loved listening to Mercury, Stella, Imani and Karen's story and how they dealt with the bombs and green fog. This story was hard to put down and thankfully with audiobooks I was able to finish it while driving.

ARC audiobook provided by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

“Into the Mist” is a fantasy/science fiction novel which takes place at the beginning of what appears to be the apocalypse. A bombing attack coordinated to take place on the entire United States results in massive destruction, fire, and biological warfare. Earthquakes follow quickly after the bombing, resulting in further damage. Amongst the carnage and devastation, a curious green mist spreads out across the earth, killing the men that it contacts and changing women at their very core.

The story follows a group of female high school teachers attending a conference in Oregon. When the apocalypse begins, the women are exposed to the green mist, causing them all to experience strange new powers. Mercury, Stella, Imani, Karen, and Gemma strike out on a journey to find a safe haven to call their new home, often relying on their newfound powers to guide and help them along the way. The journey isn’t easy, however. The apocalypse brings out not only powers in women, but also the darker side of humanity on both male and female fronts. Facing danger and destruction at every turn, the women must learn to use their new powers in a fight for survival.

This book absolutely blew me away. I thought it would be similar to most apocalyptic fiction I’ve previously encountered, but I was pleasantly surprised. Although my description of the plot may not do it justice, it really was original and enthralling. I couldn’t walk away from this book. Every time I had to stop to actually otherwise participate in life, I was left with my mind constantly returning to the book, wondering what was going to happen next. That doesn’t happen to me very often, and it left me thoroughly impressed. The author’s writing style was easy and engaging, drawing me in and immersing me in the story. The characters are well-rounded, and their interactions feel natural. The story progresses at a good pace, and it appears well thought-out. This is the first book in an upcoming series, and I frankly absolutely cannot wait for the next book!

My ARC copy of this book was an audiobook, so I also want to touch on the narrator. I thought the narrator did an excellent job with this book. Her narrative voice and her character voices were very good, drawing me into the story. The narrator also did a great job with both male and female voices, which is often a point of contention for me with audiobooks. I highly recommend the audiobook copy of this novel.

Overall, I was captivated and impressed with this book. The story draws you in and keeps you involved until the very end, which leaves you wanting more. I highly recommend this book for adult readers who are both fans of fantasy/science fiction and simply fiction in general. Although it is technically an apocalyptic storyline, it doesn’t feel like a typical sci-fi book. I think this is truly amazing work, and I am looking forward to reading more. I also enjoyed this author so much that I’ll be looking into other books she has written. Grab an audiobook or written copy of this book as soon as possible!

Into the Mist follows a few strong women MCs who are on a spring break trip when someone bombs the area and a green mist is spread, killing the men who are exposed to it and enhancing women’s abilities

I have some mixed feelings about this book, but overall I did genuinely enjoy it! I thought some of the women were really great and strong characters, while a couple others were a little underdeveloped and some of the dialogue was a little cheesy. I think the plot was done well, I enjoyed the sci-do aspect, and I was invested in their journey to find safety the whole time.

So, while I don’t think this was a groundbreaking novel, I’m happy to have read/listened to it and I will definitely be continuing the series as it comes! And thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review!

Great premise, good character development; I loved the characters and was rooting for them all throughout the story. I wanted to keep reading, hence the 3 star review. If not for the gruesome descriptions and colorful language, I would call this a Young Adult book because it was too simplistic, too "perfect" and unrealistic in its writing style and delivery. I've heard great things about this author, and was really looking forward to this one - but overall I would have been happier if I could have given it 4-5 stars.

This was a decent apocalypse novel. The characters were interesting and the world building was fascinating. However, it seem a little inconsistent snd some of the character interactions seemed...off. I don't know. Ultimately it was fine, it wasn't the worst, but also not the best I have read.

This daring book by P.C. Cast is definitely one of my favorites. This is an apocalyptic/ sci-fi book and a first in a new series. So many things I like about this book! It is set in Oregon which is where I live and have grown up. The author's knowledge of Oregon and mention of multiple places that I know and love made the book that much more entertaining. The main characters are teachers trying to survive after an attack on humanity as they encounter peril at every turn. In this book, she explored diverse religon which I found very interesting. It does not end with a cliff hanger but it is evident that their adventures will continue. All in all this is a 5 star book and I can't wait to read the rest of the series!
