I’m not sure how I feel about this one still. I liked it while I was reading it but I found it very forgettable. I did really like the characters and the story line.

This book was not for me, unfortunately. The premise of the story could have worked if the characters weren’t so hard to love. Buck was clearly supposed to be charming and funny but often fell flat for me. Randi felt like a caricature of what she was supposed to represent, often too naive or too uptight. The girls in the house were too mean, too hard to believe. There were some funny moments and some good banter between the two MCs, but I didn’t enjoy a lot of the periphery.

Book review :

This book has a lot of promising attributes: Opposites Attract, Grumpy and Sunshine, The Cowboy Love Interest, etc. all really great stuff that readers love to read about. However… there was the non-necessary thrown in racial slur towards an indigenous character that happens so casually but it’s never brought up again or used a plot device to correct other.

Randi is a soon to be college graduate returning to Oregon to finish her last year of school. She finds some affordable housing a little bit out of town. She’s been assured it is a quiet place filled with other studious women. Surprise surprise, it’s not, it’s a party house filled with lots of intoxicated people. She obviously freaks out and makes a scene right then and there.

Buck is planning on moving his trailer to the property. He wants a little more space to move and he has a friendship with the girls living there. Buck steps in and protects Randi when she gets upset for being lied to about the condition of her room and the quality of the house. A friendship slowly blossoms from there and as things tend to do, one thing leads to another.

The author was very clear on what she finds appropriate behavior. No drinking, no drugs, no sleeping around. Everyone who does something that Randi doesn’t approve of has something bad happen to them. Sarah (drinking) ends up in the hospital and almost dies due to her binge drinking. Angie (drinking and violence) gets thrown out of her home. Buck (drinking and flirting) gets drugged while at a party and looses control. Daisy (partying) gets sexually assaulted and is saved in the nick of time before actual penetration could occur. Poor girl, Randi had three different guys interested in her and they all wanted to date her. The author shows her beliefs that if you are “good” then you will be desired and if you are “bad” then you deserve bad things to happen to you. It’s not a very subtle message that is being portrayed .

I received this book from netgalley in return of an honest review.

This was...so bad. Cheesy and poorly written and I really don't think anyone should ever bother reading it.

I ended up wanting this book because of the adorable art and name, but this book was awful and had offensive language. It was a DNF for me

There were many issues with the storyline and characters in this book. The side characters were not distinct and the plot involving the main character (MC) needing money while also having a lot of money was confusing. The MC also came across as arrogant and constantly belittled the other characters, including her own best friend. The lack of resolution between the MC and the other girls in the house made it difficult to feel invested in the relationship between the MC and Buck. While the author has potential for writing romance, this book could have benefited from better-developed plot and characters. The only positive aspect of the book was the cover.

I mostly picked this one up because of the title and I glad I did. It pretty much kept me laughing from start to finish. I can't wait to read more by this author.

This sounded like it was going to be a really enjoyable book but I just couldn't get into it. None of the main characters were remotely likeable especially the girls. They were all a total mess. Not for me

When I saw the cover of this book I was hit request copy so fast. It is just to cute. Unfortunately it ends there. I think this book had lots of potential but there was many times when I found myself wishing it was over. I didn't like that there was some comments that made me uncomfortable.

I didn't like any of the characters in the book. So it was very hard to push through. You had girls hating each other before any drama started. The main character seems a bit stuck up to me and the main man try to hard to be "country" for me.

2/5 stars! Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a review!!

I will be honest I requested this book solely because of the cover and I am a SUCKER for a hot cowboy....but this book didn't do it for me at all. I think that book had a lot of potential but I found myself just skimming through the pages, wondering when it would be done. I found myself not caring about the characters, and I didn't appreciate the women hating on other women for such petty drama.

Buck up, Buttercup follows a young woman Randi, finishing up her last year of college, she has moved out of her aunt's messy and cat-filled house and into an off-campus house with three roommates. She was promised peace and quiet but, on the night, she arrives the whole place is filled with drunk college students, so things don't get off to a good start, especially after she runs into the local cowboy hottie. The synopsis of this story sounded great. I love a good romcom, with a hunky cowboy. The cover and title of this book were both super cute and I was expecting a fun, hijinks, some banter, with some spicy bits mixed into this story but that is not what I got. I rated this book one star; I found several problematic aspects to this story. The first one has to do with the representation and handling of sexual harassment and assault that was in this book. There were several instances of harassment, attempted rape, and the use of drugs to sexually exploit several characters. When these scenarios happened, they were brushed off, made excuses for behavior, or acted like it should be no big deal. I found this upsetting to say the least and thought that the way it was written did not handle these scenarios well at all. Secondly, this whole book was made up of some type of party, involving excessive amounts of alcohol and drugs. This book did not feel like a romcom or even a romance, there was no real building of relationship, personal growth, or overcoming an obstacle, but mostly focused on the bad things happening at parties and Randi trying to clean up after everyone else's mess, while getting verbally abused. Finally, the main love interest is Buck, I did not like him at all. He made excuses for his behavior, belittled Randi’s feelings, and was cruel at times. Overall, I did not like this book, and I would not recommend it.
Trigger warnings: sexual harassment, attempted rape, drug and substance abuse, verbal abuse
I received this advanced ebook, via Netgalley. This review is my own honest opinion.

I absolutely hate giving books one star reviews (because authors are people, writing a book is quite the endeavor, and respect is free), but I don't have any love for Buck Up, Buttercup. The characters of this book are not fleshed out - and the women of this book verge on an insult to women. Add a racial slur and the r-word, and you've written a book that gets a one star review. (Let alone the plot so riddled with holes that it reads like swiss cheese).

I really did try to get into this book. Though it never caught me and my personal taste in books. Something I did notice, was use and normalizing of the racial slurs, slut shaming, misogyny, multiple sexual assaults, which I DO NOT think is ok. This book could be an okay read, if edited slightly. I'm sure someone's going to enjoy it. It just wasn't me.

The book started to be good. The introduction was very chaotic but understandable. The writing was very descriptive. It had a very cliché end. A lot of plot points were left hanging. I wanted Randi and her roommates to connect and bond. There was no understanding between the characters. I could only understand Randi as a character, but the Buck's is as unknow to me as any of he roommates.

I was going to read this, but I noticed several negative reviews that indicated there is hurtful and unnecessary language in this book so I've decided against it. There is never any need for a book to include such language.
