Solid thriller with a good storyline. I liked the main character and the twists were well done. A good weekend read.

Interesting and well written I just personally couldn’t get into the story. Difficult to follow at times and a little slow. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This ARC was provided to me via Kindle, from Hachette Book Group and #NetGalley. Thank you for the opportunity to preview and review. Opinions expressed are completely my own.

As a fan of Helene Flood's previous work, I found this one a tad slower moving, with everything packed into the end. Almost rushed to wrap the story up. It was a touch disappointing, it won't stop me for reading more in the future. It still had suspense, mystery and a decent story.

So much potential!

I really liked the story and the characters. But it was a little too slow for me. Plus, there were all these sudden changes in the story which totally took me out of it again and again. I did finish the book, which says a lot. But it just didn't grab me - i was not invested in it at all.

I do want to thank the author, the publisher and #netgalley for the ARC which did not impact my review.

I imagine the final product will have chapters. For me abrupt changes were too jarring and made it hard for me to figure out what was going on. This was an unfortunate DNF since I couldn’t tell if we were in the past or present.

I loved The Therapist by Helene Flood. Unfortunately, I just could not get into this novel. The pace was too slow for my liking and the plot just did not hold my attention. I did not finish at the 33% mark.

I have been on a roll with all of these dynamite debuts!

Helene Flood, where have you been hiding all my life? Flood slays when it comes to delivering what the reader wants!

I am not too sure what I was expecting when I requested The Lover. To be honest, I think I was pulled in with just the title. It was cute, but yet categorized as a "thriller" so my interest definitely peeked. I don't think anything could have prepared me for the wild ride I was about to be taken on.

The Lover packs a punch, one you will not see coming but will throb for the rest of the book. I could feel my pulse racing with every explosive twist.

The Lover is creepy and truly what nightmares are made of and I loved every bit of it!

FIVE STARS!

This is the first book I've read of [author:Helene Flood|18965593]'s [authorimage:Helene Flood|18965593] and it's amazing because her other book [book:The Therapist|60034454] [bookcover:The Therapist|60034454] is right up my alley. I should have read it first. Not that [book:The Lover|60788425] [bookcover:The Lover|60788425] was hard to read but it was really so true to life that I couldn't put it down. Rikke (the mom), Åsmund (the dad), Emma (a 14 year old girl), and Lukas (a 4 year old boy) are the Prytz family. Helene takes you through their lives and brings you up to date with an amazing story you will want to read. It's amazing.

Totally creeped about by every freaking character in the building. This was a slow burn to be sure and it started out very slow but by midpoint things really ramped up. I was trying to catch my breath and then BOOM a totally unexpected and explosive ending.

I received an advanced reader’s copy in exchange for an honest review

Wow- what a ride. Creepy Scandi noir take on domestic thriller! The atmosphere is cold and damp and you are a bit freaked out by everybody in the building, allowing the mystery to unravel in front of you while you hide in the corner watching through your fingers. Five twisted dark shadowy stars for this one.

Exhilarating, Entertaining & Cleverly Executed!

Helene Flood kept me guessing right until the end, and there were so many plot twists I wasn’t sure what would come next.

The Lover was far from boring, keeping me entertained from beginning to end.
Flood's writing is excellent and pleasantly paced, the characters are indepth and true to life. Also the character development was on point and satisfying.
As always with these books I was hooked from the first page.
It is fast paced with things constantly moving forward with plenty of twists in the storyline to keeper you hooked.
The ending was one I could have never anticipated and loved every bit of it.

“I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.”

Book: The Lover
Author: Helene Flood

I absolutely loved this book! Loved it! Helene Flood is a great storyteller. If I could have stayed up all night reading this I would have. I would say it’s a slow burn and I could feel my pulse quicken the closer we got to finding out who the killer was. And while you may have guesses as to who done it you still will question yourself right up to the end. What a great story! This is a must read!

Thank you Hachette Book Group and NetGalley for this sneak peak! Publication date is July 12, 2022.
