Today is the twenty-fifth anniversary since her sister went missing and Kate is looking at the Facebook page she set up in her memory. She posted her message. Before work, she got a message that read, ‘I know what happened to Jess.’ She sent a friend request and fired off a message to the sender asking for more details and thought of nothing else all day. She could remember bits of that day that Jess went missing and her mum had filled her in with some bits as well but there was still the burning question, what did really happen to Jess? Did she drown? Was she taken?

Her father had been asleep on the bench when he was supposed to be taking care of her. Later, she saw the article written by the Cornish paper which had contacted her dad about the anniversary and he had given an interview where he had taken the blame for Jess going missing. Kate was upset they hadn’t got in touch with her. Kate receives another message saying they will only speak to her in person so she works out a plan to go to Looe with the family for a few days over the half-term holiday. She even books the same cottage she stayed in as a child.

When she gets to Looe, they love the cottage. When they go to the pub for food, everyone is staring at Kate. Eventually she asks a woman why they are staring at her. Apparently they all know who she is but the woman agrees to speak to her the next day. When Kate speaks to her, she doesn’t really get that much information from her that she doesn’t already know but Kate thinks she is holding back. She tries the ice-cream shop but the woman won’t open up. She speaks to the fisherman that ran out of the pub, he rambles on, not really saying anything and gives an excuse for running out of the pub and says he will see them in the morning for the fishing trip they have booked.

When Damian and Kate fall out the next day, Kate decides to go to Polperro to see the cave. When she finally reaches the cave, she has to use her phone torch to light up inside the cave but still doesn’t see much, then there is a beep and her phone dies. Leaving her in darkness. She hears a shuffle or movement of a foot or something before she is banged on the head and she slips to the floor, unconscious. She meets her dad in the carpark and it turns out he put a tracker on her phone when she saw him. When she gets back to the cottage, Damian won’t listen to her, just walks out to get in a taxi so Kate rings her dad. He comes to the cottage and they ring the police. When Natalie and Kate finally talk, they manage to sort some things out and Natalie says she will dig around some more for her, Kate is thankful for the help.

One morning she gets a message telling her to, ‘meet the sender by Jess’ bench at six am.’ Kate had been awake all night so got the message and got ready then sneaked out of the house without anyone knowing. She set off to the rendezvous point with a tin of beans in her bag with her phone so she could hit an attacker over the head with the tin. She stood in an alleyway by Natalie’s ice-cream shop watching the bench as the time approached and went past, they were late. No sign of anyone. Then there was an engine sound which she ignored before she was hit over the head and as she slumped down, a bag was placed over her head. She was lifted up and carried away to the car not too far away, then driven away. What they didn’t realise was, her bracelet had dropped off her wrist in the scuffle.

Who was the mystery messenger? Who was the kidnapper? Will they harm her? Will she be found?

This was a great psychological thriller to read. It was full of twists and turns throughout the book. This was a great plot and well thought out. I liked Kate’s character because of her determination to find out what had happened to her sister regardless of the outcome.

Quite slow in the beginning. But soon picked up pace and grabbed my attention. Lots of twists and turns in the plot. Great book to lose yourself in. It was well written. Highly reccomend

Too many various points of view, Kate was strangely fascinated with discovering the truth regarding her sister's death.

I overall really enjoyed this standalone book. As a fan of Ms. Kovach's Gina Harte series, I was interested to see what she could do in a single book. At the beginning of the book I really struggled with the main character, Kate, who was still mourning her sister 25 years after her disappearance, still holding a grudge against her father, and still incredibly paranoid about the safety of her own daughters. Admittedly I haven't been in the same position, but she is 25 years past the need for therapy and I was shocked that her husband continued to put up with the behavior. And, looking back from having finished the book, I think it could have easily been toned down because if someone sent me a note telling me they knew what happened to my baby sister, I would have been at attention regardless of my level of obsession. Once the story gets in to the mystery itself, the book becomes a lot more interesting. I loved the small town with all the interwoven secrets and how this incident had continued to impact the residents. I enjoyed how the ending was laid out and by the end of the book I had almost forgotten how annoying Kate was at the beginning. I think her husband had too!

There's a lot of books out there about parents with missing children. But what about the siblings? What if they were really young when it happened so mixed in with all the sadness and questions they also had the added complications of a child's perception of events plus the inevitable loss of memory? This is what Kate deals with every day. She just can't let go of the desire to know exactly what happened to her baby sister Jess 25 years ago. Understandably. Now she's a mother herself and stresses constantly something could happen to them. Her husband has reached breaking point. He can see her been too controlling and also running herself down. She won't let her kids out of her sight plus her never ending search takes up her time and energy. Just as she's at the point where she agrees it's time to let go she gets a message. Someone knows what happened to Jess. And they want to meet her in the seaside town Jess vanished from.

I hate to use a stereotypical review comments. But I'm going to do it anyway as I literally could not put this down. I had a good idea where it was going but Carla Kovach creates a tense and claustrophobic atmosphere which made this a gripping read. Kates sense of constantly been watched is tangible as is her desperation for answers. Kate isn't a particularly likeable character but you can still sympathise - after all if your entire life was defined by this one terrible moment wouldn't you be a bit prickly? Hell I'm unbearable if I lose my earphones, I can only imagine what I'd be like if I lost something or someone important!

A great addition to Carla Kovachs repertoire of excellent thrillers.

Thanks to NetGalley, publisher and author, for the review copy of this book. Ms. Kovach is one of my favorite authors. Her stories keep me entertained and glued to the pages from beginning to end. The mystery of baby Jess, what was believed to have happened compared to the real story was simply shocking. Kate was a little obnoxious at times but I also understood why and for the most part, I liked the character and felt for her. I really enjoyed the pace and resolution of this story.

*I received a copy of this book from Netgalley, all opinions are my own.*

Kate is determined to find out what happened to her younger sister Jess when they were children. A message from a mysterious sender brings Kate back to the place Jess was lost in and starts Kates’ journey of discovery. There were many characters to keep track of but fortunately the dual pov narration and consistent reminders of how each character connects to one another helps keep everyone straight while reading. I unfortunately had to read it in short spurts over the course of a few weeks but luckily it was written with enough detail that I had no trouble picking right back up where I left off. The story was engaging and well written with an ending I was unable to anticipate!

This is a well written thriller by author Carla Kovach with plenty of twists along the way. It took me a little longer than usual to get fully into this thriller but by the end I was turning the pages quickly to find out what was going to happen.

Kate’s sister Jessie died twenty five years ago on holiday feared drowned. Her body was never found and Kate never really got over the tragic loss of her sister. Now married with two children that she protects to the extreme. The children are not allowed out of the home to be with friends and every move is watched by Kate. On the twenty fifth anniversary of Jessie’s death Kate receives a message telling her that they know what happened to her sister and she should seek out the truth. Kate feels compelled to seek the truth and visits the location of the accident but all the time she senses someone is watching her very closely.

I would like to thank both Netgalley and Bookouture for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

What an excellent story! Kates baby sister went missing years ago, in the care of her Dad who was drunk, everyone thought she'd fallen into the sea and drowned. Years later and Kate has her own family, she receives a message saying they know what happened to her sister! Was it really and accident or something more sinister?

I loved this, really wasn't able to put it down until the end.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'Find Me' by Carla Kovach.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Carla Kovach, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 14th July 2022.

This is the seventh book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'Their Silent Graves' , 'The Broken Ones', 'One Left Behind', 'Her Dying Wish', 'One Girl Missing' and 'What She Did',which I highly recommend.

I was originally drawn to this book by its eye catching cover and its intriguing synopsis and title. The synopsis stated that this book is 'Perfect for fans of Gone Girl, The Girl on the Train and The Wife Between Us.' I am a huge fan of 'Gone Girl' so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I am also a huge fan of Carla and if this is half as good as 'One Left Behind', 'The Broken Ones', 'Their Silent Graves', 'Her Dying Wish', 'One Girl Missing' and 'What She Did' it is sure to be a page turning read. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists a prologue, 58 chapters and an epilogue. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Looe, Cornwall, England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿, UK 🇬🇧. The bonus for me of books that are partly or fully based in the UK is that I live in the UK and have sometimes visited places mentioned in the book which makes it easier to picture. The fact that this book is based in Cornwall is even better as I have been on holiday in Cornwall many times so may even recognise some places Carla has set the book around. I am also going on holiday there next year so will be keeping my eye out for any place mentioned.

This book is written in a mix of third and first person perspective and the protagonists are Natalie and Kate. The benefits of books written in first person perspective are as long as they are well written it makes you feel that you are being spoken to by the protagonist and it can create more of a bond between yourselves and them. If there are several protagonists you also get to see more of what is going on. The benefits of third person perspective with multiple protagonists are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything. To have the benefit of both first and third person perspective ensures you don't miss out on anything.

WOW!! Where to even start?!? Firstly I must say yet again I was NOT disappointed by the very talented Carla Kovach !!! I started reading this book this morning and finished it in a day. MIND BLOWN!!!

This book is extremely well written as is every book I have read by Carla with vivid descriptions that really put you in the storyline. The blurb and cover work perfectly with the storyline. Every single time I told myself I'd finish the chapter and then put it down and every single time I was left with a sort of cliff hanger refusing to allow me to put it down. If your planning on reading this I would recommend clearing your schedule!!! I was a bit dubious to start as this is the first standalone I have read by Carla but it was just as fabulous as her series'

Don't even read the first page without clearing your schedules as this gripping psychological thriller will just drag you straight in!!!

Absolutely gripping storyline which I got completely sucked into. A great unputdownable page turner filled with suspense, friendship, family, deceit, mystery, love and lies. I absolutely loved the storyline, especially the shocking plots that I would never have seen coming! Not just one either!! There's nothing worse than when you have worked everything out and your not even half way through a book so a massive well done for that!! I definitely did not even have the person involved in my suspect list AT ALL, wasn't even close to working out what was going on, soooo many red herrings. I haven't been that shocked in a book in a while so WELL DONE Carla! I really had my head set on a certain person, I can't say as I don't want to spoil it but I'm sure many other readers will feel the same. I really could not compliment this book any more it is an absolutely gripping, addictive and shocking page turner. The other thing that I absolutely adored about this book is the absolutely stunning settings!!! We are actually off to Cornwall next year and thanks to Carla we will definitely be including trips to Looe and Polperro!!! I must say that even if we weren't planning on going next year anyway this book would have definitely ensured I did. Even though this was a psychological thriller I still felt that I was on a gorgeous holiday and I was absolutely devastated to come to the end and have to "unpack" my suitcase. However much I hated to leave though, I must say that I LOVE, LOVE LOVED the ending!!! Almost brought me to tears a few times!!! So yet again another achievement unlocked Carla!!!
I Loved the last chapter, something I love with Carla is that she always seems to leave the last chapter in a way that really makes you want to see what happens next and several times I've been left hoping and wondering if that storyline will be carried on.

Carla I hope your busy writing your next book ready to whisk me away again!!! I would absolutely LOVE to see this page turner developed into a movie as I can guarantee it will be a best seller!!!

The characters were all well rounded and realistic with their own personality traits, strengths and weaknesses. It was very interesting watching how the bonds strengthened and weakened between characters throughout the storyline. I really felt for Kate as her world came crumbling down around her. I really connected with and became invested in her and my heart felt torn every time something was going wrong with her life. She had done absolutely nothing wrong and just wanted to find out the truth about what happened to her baby sister all those years ago. I can't even begin to imagine how she must have felt, plus her parents, especially her Dad!!!. I really did feel for her Dad and was absolutely heartbroken by how certain events went for him and how he went after that. The other character my heart went out to was Natalie although I am not going to say anymore now as I don't want to spoil it for future readers!!! Another fantastic mix of characters who worked perfectly well to bring this explosive page turner to life!!

A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to Carla Kovach for another absolutely fantastic success!! I cannot wait to read more of your amazing work!! I really would love to see your books on the big screen one day, I can guarantee they will be a success if they are even half as good as the books you write!!! THIS is EXACTLY why you are one of my favourite authors and here is to your next guaranteed success 🥂

Overall a page turning, epic psychological thriller that will keep you thinking about it long after you have finished. I would love to see this turned into a film.

Genres covered in this novel include Mystery, Thriller, Suspense, Psychological Thriller, Romantic Suspense, Crime Fiction, Noir Fiction and Psychological Fiction amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl,  The Wife Between Us, CL Taylor, Lisa Jewell and of course Carla Kovach and just anyone looking for an epic read with a twist. What are you waiting for?? Go grab your copy now!!!

Thank you to #NetGalley and #Bookoutre for my advance copy of #FindMe by #CarlaKovach
You see the name Carla Kovach and automatically think Gina Harte but this is a standalone novel about Kate.
Kate is now grown, married, and the mother of two but she can’t ever forget her sister who disappeared 25 years ago, and her entire life is blighted because of this.
This is not one of the best books I didn’t find Kate at all likeable, and thought there were just too many red herrings. Readable but if it gphad been the first of Carla’s books that I had read, it would have been the last.

Thank you to Bookouture for my copy of this book via netgalley and for letting me take part in this tour. I love the Gina Harte series by Carla and I enjoyed her standalone What She Did which was released last year.

Our main character is Kate. She is obsessed with the disappearance of her baby sister. I did find her quite annoying and frustrating at times. I can really sympathise with her husband as she was very overprotective of her children. There were times when I thought Kate what are you doing. Why do you keep putting yourself in danger! But I did feel for her that she needed to know the truth.

While this was a crime thriller I loved the little town of Looe and I kept imagining a little holiday there. Given the hot weather we have been having recently, I could do with a trip to the Cornish coast.

The story is very well written. Carla knows how to build mystery, tension and suspense. Just when you think you have figured it out Carla throws in a couple of twists that really make you doubt yourself. I had some suspicions as to what happened but Carla kept me on my toes guessing until the very dramatic end.

A thrilling read that will keep you engaged from start to finish.

This story goes through a baby that is believed to be dead and her older sister trying to figure out what happened to baby Jess. It goes through what a town and some people are willing to cover up and how Kate puts herself in danger trying to figure out the truth.

Find Me by Carla Kovach was another brilliant book, However, it was very slow for the first few chapters and then Bang! I could not put Find me down. It had lots of twists and turns throughout and it had me guessing till the last few chapters. This book would be a great holiday read sitting by a pool soaking in the atmosphere around you. Just perfect.

I highly recommend this book and all of Carla's books they will not disappoint.

Big thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

Happy reading! x

This is a riveting read, based around the nightmare of a child going missing and the effect this has on her older sister Kate, who can’t accept that little Jess has gone forever and battles with her guilt of the part she played in the disappearance. She keeps a Facebook page for her and on the 25th anniversary receives an anonymous message suggesting that the sender knows what really happened to Jess. Kate sets of with her husband and two daughters to the Cornish town of Jess’s disappearance to try and solve the mystery (although her husband has no idea that this is the purpose of the holiday) This is a tense, gripping read with secrets revealed, plot twists and red herrings mixed with danger and intrigue. The story pulled me in and held me until the end.

This was the first book I've read by Kovach and will definitely be adding her to my new jauthor radar.

Find Me is a tension filled thriller, full of twists and turns, with an ending that I didn't see coming.

Kate had let her life be completely taken over by her 'obsession' to find out what had happened to Jess and I couldn't warm to her in the slightest.

For me the book didn't pick up pace until I was over halfway through.

Many thanks to Bookouture for my tour spot.

Rating ⭐⭐⭐💫

Find Me by Carla Kovach is a psychological thriller.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

My Synopsis:   (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
Kate was bugging her mom for ice cream the day her baby sister Jess went missing.  Their father was drunk, but their mother left him watching Jess anyway.

Twenty-five years have passed, and Kate now has two little girls of her own, who she barely lets out of her sight.  She has never forgotten her sister, dedicating a facebook page to her, and following up on every message she receives.  This year, she gets a message that indicates someone knows what happened that day, and Kate drags her family back to the harbour town where Jess vanished, apparently drowned.  Kate's husband thinks she is going to finally close the book on her missing sister, but in reality, she is just looking for answers.

But is she going to find answers, or put her family in danger?

My Opinions:
I absolutely love this author's Gina Harte series, but I am again struggling with her stand-alone novels. They are good, but they just miss the mark for me.  They are too predictable.

The book is about family, about secrets, about lies.

First,  I did not like any of the characters.  When you really dislike the main character, and can't feel compassion or empathy for them, it makes the book hard to read.  Kate just continued to piss me off.  She was so self-centered, constantly lying to her husband, keeping her daughters on such a tight leash, and blaming her father for everything bad in the world.  So, the first 50% of the book, I hated.

Then, it got good.  There were a lot of suspects, and although I did indeed guess the right one, the reasoning behind everything that happened was a surprise.  That was fun.

So, overall it was an okay read for me....

Carla Kovach is a go-to author for me! And Carla and Bookouture have hit another one out of the park with the latest Find Me. Full of suspense, a great story, and characters to root for, I enjoyed Carla's latest very much.

This was my first Carla Kovach book, and I've heard great things, so couldn't resist the opportunity to read this and be on the tour!
I'm a sucker for books about missing people. Fact or fiction, sign me up!
This hooked me straight away. Kate's anxiety over her children's safety after the loss of her sister was believable and stressful to read.
The second line of Natalie felt a little confusing at times, as I couldn't work out the connection for quite a while. Suspenseful, but also frustrating.
The ending was worth the wait!

I wish I could give this book a more positive review because I really appreciate access to this ARC, but unfortunately I really struggled with the plot, which I found melodramatic and bordering on absurd in places. The characters were also two-dimensional and I found it difficult to differentiate between them. Apologies for the negative review.
