This is such a fantastic book for children who have interests in gardening, homesteading, cooking, and/or nature crafts. Beautiful pictures. Great information. I would have absolutely adored this book as a child.

Little Homesteader is a delightful treasury of activities and information perfect for fall! Each page has adorable illustrations with activities, recipes, and crafts. There are sections about seasonal produce/recipes, planting, and activities. I would recommend this for early elementary school aged children who have access to a backyard or nearby woods. This would make a wonderful gift!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.

This was such a cute book. Beautifully illustrated and great ideas for kids of all ages. Since I live in Florida a lot of these ideas wouldn't apply, but I can still incorporate some of the homesteading components.

This book is made up of so many different activities, recipes, information and ideas for children to read about and try this fall! I'm sure that all young readers will be able to find some fun things to explore in this book. I would recommend this book to parents and teachers of children in the 5-10 age range who are looking for some new activities to keep children entertained and engaged in learning about the world around them. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!

I loved the spring version of this series but summer and fall were just okay for me. The illustrations are so juvenile that I'm afraid this won't appeal to kids past the preschool age, which is a shame since the activities are often suited for older kids. The spring version has some fun foraging activities but this one is more along the lines of the usual fall stuff, although some is focused only on things that kids on homesteads will be able to do. It's a great series, but I'd like to see a little more originality in the activities and some elevated artwork. Still recommended.

Three stars -- liked it but it could be a little better.

I read a temporary digital ARC of this book for review.

I was drawn to Little Homesteader: A Fall Treasury of Recipes, Crafts and Wisdom because autumn is my favourite season and I was hoping a cute cosy book would get me and my little boy excited for autumn coming soon. This book certainly did that! The illustrations are so cute, the whole book is a feast for the eyes - everything in here is so adorable, even the crafts! Tiny little acorn candles? Too cute! A mushroom log? Adorable! There weren't as many recipes as I expected - only three in total. And some ingredients would not be available in the UK - canned pumpkin puree for example. In fact, the whole book is very American - with American measurements in cups and Americanisms such as Cilantro and Fall - not a problem for me, but something to take note for Brits if you would prefer your little ones not to pick up American terms or get confused by them. I loved the environmental message of using what is seasonal, and that the book is printed on recycled paper. The pages were a delight to look through with my little boy, I would have liked more recipes as I don't think we will make any of these but I think we will make some of these cute crafts come autumn!

Angela Ferraro-Fanning does it again! I'm in love with the Little Homesteader series! With fun illustrations and lots of color - these projects are perfect for children (and adults) of all ages. The seasonal projects are perfect timing as we prepare the garden and all it's produce for the fall and winter months ahead - building an herb drying branch and the different uses for apples and pears are something we can't wait to do.

With a 4 year old who is obsessed with nature and being outside, Little Homesteader has given us a few new ideas and added to some great traditions we already practice.

Thank you to Ivy Kids and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This is a fantastic book. It gives information, but not an overload. The activities are simple enough to not be off-putting, but relevant enough to not be a simple way to fill time with the materials the book is talking about. They are also activities that kids can do at home.

I'm not sure who this book is for. I mean, it's obviously geared towards children, but I guess it's ideas about what children can do on a homestead/farm, but an adult would have to be involved anyway. Usually, books like these are written for parents or caretakers to list crafts that you can do with kids. These can't really be done without an adult. I did like some of the ideas, like using dried gourds for birdhouses and pumpkin seed pesto, but again, you need a hammer and nails to make the birdhouse, which a small child can't do. I like that it's printed in the US on recycled paper, it's just a little confusing. If you live on a homestead or farm with veggies and herbs and animals, it may give you and your child new and creative ideas for using the fall bounty.

A lovely book full of ideas for children (that will be loved by adult too). Easy to follow and full of interesting projects.
Highly recommended.

This is an adorable, fun little book for children to learn uses for common fall crops. I particularly enjoyed the recipes for lip balm and pesto! It’s a wonderful way to encourage children to be thoughtful about our food and to use all parts of the plants in different ways. It felt like a very kind, sweet book to share with a little one to grow their love for nature. The illustrations were also so colorful and adorable! I’m definitely going to pick up the previous books.

Little Homesteader: A Fall Treasury of Recipes, Crafts and Wisdom by Angela Ferraro-Fanning.

Little Homesteader is a very cute picture book that encourages children to learn about the changes autumn brings. This book definitely wasn't what I expected, but in a very good way. I can honestly say I've done everything Ms. Angela suggested in this book, to grow mushrooms on a log. I find it ironic, on this Father's day in 2022, my son bought mushrooms for his dad to grow. My son never had the patience to wait a year for them to grow.

This book focuses on autumn crops including apple, pear and pumpkin varieties. Children will enjoy the colorful, adorable fall illustrations. There are easy to follow directions with picture tutorials for the recipes and crafts. The recipes are easy and straightforward.

This book is great for kinesthetic learners! For children that always want to be involved in everything, they jump with their hands & feet first. My son was great at turning an apple picking trip into an adventure of finding the perfect, biggest apple. By the time my daughter was born, 5 years later, it was traditional to make apple butter in the autumn to give as Christmas gifts. My daughter learns better with multi-sensory activities and still enjoys these activities with a few detours finding animals and butterflies. Many of these journeys into nature start children's thinking and asking important questions. I definitely treasure the years of memories of pumpkin picking and baking with the kiddos. (Even in the City)

I love that our author uses the parts of fruits often overlooked, like sharing apple cores or pumpkins with nature's small critters. All of which foster kindness and generosity. I'd highly recommend this book and I plan to look up previous books from this series that I missed.

With this title, the author covers her final season. I reviewed and recommended all of the earlier books in this series. The same is true for this one that is focused on fall.

Children are invited to learn about the many changes that autumn brings to nature. They will learn about fall crops including apple, pear and pumpkin varieties. There are ideas about ways to use parts of fruits that are often overlooked, as for example the apple core, giving a gentle message to make use of all of nature’s generosity.

Included within in these cheerily illustrated pages are crafts, cooking ideas, suggestions for planting and more. Make a birdhouse from a gourd, craft acorn cap candles, bake sweet pumpkin muffins or choose among the other activities. Directions are easy to follow and the projects look like fun.

In addition to offering fun, the book has a gentle message. That is to care for our environment. Even the book itself is printed from reused materials.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group-Ivy Kids for this title. All opinions are my own.

This book is really cute, though a bit different than I expected. It is much shorter than I anticipated with a handful of activities, a few informative pages, and ideas on how to use the remnants from apples and pumpkins, after including recipes for baking treats with them. There are illustrations, that are adorable to be sure, but no actual pictures throughout the book. I thought some of the activities like seed saving, making seed packets, and basket weaving, were especially great additions. This book is probably best suited for preschool or early elementary aged children.

The perfect Autumn/ Fall book! Filled with recipes, activities, crafts, and facts, this is a darling book! The artwork is so cute and the crafts are simple and fun. It really captures the fall mood well and I can’t wait to do some of these crafts and try out some of the recipes. I would highly recommend this book for everyone of all ages just so they can experience how much fun Fall can be!!
