This book is delightful! I was looking for a fun and refreshing book for vacation and this met the bill and then some! I really like the character of the grandmother and that she is so comfortable in her own skin! Although pretty predictable, the storyline is comforting and realistic to the struggles that may echo those of the reader.
That said, it does sensitively touch on some more significant and life-changing realities -- life choices, illness, and financial hardship. The setting is lovely and was more impactful personally as I have family from that beautiful area of the United Kingdom.

My appreciation to Netgalley for the ARC audio book of this title.

I enjoyed some of the story but it wasn’t just highly entertaining for my taste. Felt It was to long. I appreciate the advanced copy from netgally. I don’t think I would recommend to others.

This was a story about Ruby who has had a tough time at life with no reliable father figure making it hard for her to trust men. Gabe is a nice guy who is endless saying blood is thicker than everything and has a need embedded to take care of his brother at all costs.

The idea behind the story is touching, the learning how to love and forgive and about a small town who gathers together to support one another, including solving the crimes of vandalism around town.

However, I felt frustrated by the endless all men are unreliable weasels like my dad, and my brother can do no wrong. It seemed a little too much judgement from the FMC and naivety from the MMC.

Additionally, the ending felt very abrupt, unfinished and almost wrong... I mean I can enjoy a happy outcome, but how much damage can one person do for so long and still end up alright...

The romance was cute, the town was charming and homey, the grandma was cute with her pottery place, but I just didn't love this one.

The Little Cornish House was a sweet book about a 30-year-old woman who leaves London for Cornwall to help her grandmother out at her Pottery Project. She also meets the hot man who owns the local brewery and has to confront her own self-imposed disconnect from feelings (and pottery) cultivated by a continually disappointing father. The Pottery Project was lovely and made me want to get myself behind a pottery wheel again.

Helen Johns is an excellent audiobook reader. Her voice is light and airy which adds to the feel-good nature of the novel. She also clearly defines different characters with voices and a variety of accents.

The romance was steamy but was missing a more interesting connection between Ruby and Gabe. I think the issue was that it did not feel like a romance novel first and foremost which isn’t a problem, but it made me feel like I wanted more build into their romance. Ruby and Gabe share disappointment in family members who let them down, and this problem was addressed thoroughly.

Ruby’s insistence on helping Anna when Anna did not want help seemed strange. It was obviously Ruby’s character flaw, but her insistence on looking into something private that Anna asked her not to look into was just weird.

I’m giving this book four stars even though it took me quite some time to get through because I didn’t always feel compelled to pick it up. I’m not entirely sure why though, as it was the equivalent of a warm hug.

I was in the mood for a light, easy read and this book fit the bill. It’s a cozy romance/mystery in a beautiful Cornish setting. THE LITTLE CORNISH HOUSE, by Donna Ashcroft, narrated by Helen Johns.

Ruby has had it with men and has decided to just live her life for herself. Her dad let her down all her life and her ex-boyfriend did so most recently. So she’s happy to go back to Cornwall to help her grandmother save her little pottery shop from financial ruin. Of course, in walks a handsome, brooding local brewery owner with his own hang ups, and there’s instant chemistry, which they both try to ignore. And that goes about as well as expected.

The pottery shop in this story really makes me want to take a pottery class, especially if it’s held in this quaint little village. I really enjoyed each of the characters and they all had believable personalities. I don’t often go for romance novels but this one sounded interesting and I’m really glad I read it.

Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the gift of this audiobook in exchange for my honest review. 4 stars!

A story of family, love, heartbreak, redemption, learning to trust, small town/village issues, addiction (gambling), betrayal, abandonment, some nefarious characters and things happening and much more. Ruby is in a tough emotional space and she has more or less given up on love as she thinks it has given up on her. She just wants a quiet life and to be left alone. That is until she gets a call from her beloved grandmother, who lovingly raised her needs her help and for her to come home to help save her livelihood. Returning home brings up myriad feelings she’d much prefer to keep buried and yet, she loves her grandmother so she goes. What she doesn’t expect is to meet Gabe and think about risking her heart again and having to deal with her father, who would periodically pop into her life only to disappoint her with more unfulfilled promises, empty her grandmothers savings and disappear again. To say she was wary of men and the world in general is an understatement. Her goal is to help save her grandmothers business and leave and yet she finds herself connected in ways she didn’t want and couldn’t help. It’s a lovely story that ultimately wraps up with good things happening for all.

The Little Cornish House, by Donna Ashcroft, is a interestingly plotted story bringing together family dynamics, new acquaintances, and a local mystery involving theft and vandalism. Ruby Penhaligon has taken a leave from her accounting position in London to travel home to the little Cornish village of Indigo Cove. Her dear grandmother, Lila, has asked for help while her assistant is away for a long trip. Although Ruby has made it clear that she will do nothing with the pottery at her grandmother’s Pottery Project, she will assist with getting supplies ready and making sure there is always tea and snacks for those attending.

Ruby is a bit dismayed at the state of disrepair of her grandmother’s little white cottage, asking why the repairs haven’t been made. When Lila states that she has made a huge loan to Ruby’s ne’er do well father, Ross, her dismay only grows. Ross Penhaligon has never been trustworthy, leaving Ruby and her mother when she was a baby and disappointing them both. Ruby believes a broken heart is what actually took her mother a decade earlier.

Also, while with her grandmother, Ruby attends weekly meetings of the Marples, a local citizen watch group of locals and business owners. There has been a rash of vandalism and graffiti, with Gabe Roskilly and his Roskilly Brewery where the majority of the crimes have to occured. As they break into pairs to do the watch walks, Lila seems to be instrumental in getting Ruby paired with Gabe.

This is a lovely story with a solid mystery as core and a lot of drama on several fronts as the delightful characters come together to solve those problems. I very much enjoyed this book and I do recommend it!

One of my favorite story lines is when the community comes together to fix the problem, and this book has just that. Getting to know Ruby and Gabe was a treat! I loved the mystery intertwined, too. With themes of forgiveness, family and love, Ruby pushes through her dilemma of whether she can trust again. And the cozy Cornish coast envelopes this story beautifully.

Ruby’s life is safe and predictable - just the way she likes it. But her whole life is turned upside down when her grandmother asks her to come to the beloved little Cornish house.

Returning to Indigo Cove stirs up memories that Ruby would rather forget, but she’s determined to enjoy time at her grandmother’s home and maybe even find love along the way. Ruby then finds herself attracted to Gabe, the local brewery owner, but her resolve to stay away from love is tested to the limit.

This is a cute summer romance with a little mysterious twist that kept me coming back for more. The locals each had their own distinct personality and felt like a Cornish Stars Hallow, where everyone knows and loves the entire town. The town and Gabe were definitely the highlights of the book and one of the main reasons I enjoyed my time with this story.

Ruby, on the other hand, I had some difficulty with. Her daddy issues prevented her from making, keeping and maintaining any kind of long-term relationships in her life. Even with her "best friend" she was going to throw everything away just because she thought she knew better than what her best friend should do with her life. It was hard to root for her and want to see her success when it seemed that she didn't even want it for herself.

Final Thoughts - Light steam but overall enjoyed the atmosphere the story created, just wish it was focused on other more likable characters from the town.

Once I read the description of this novel, I was so excited to read (or listen to) it; and this audiobook did not disappoint! It met all my expectations: romance, family drama, and community. It was so well written and really captured the reader with both Ruby and Gabe's stories, but also the stories of the people around them. Donna Ashcroft did a phenomenal job of making the reader fall in love with the characters and gave them so much depth.

Ruby, an account with a love of art and pottery has a rocky relationship with her absentee artist father which causes her to renounce her love of pottery, but a wonderful and loving relationship with her potter grandmother. Gabe, the local brewer has his own personal and family issues, with dealing with the brewery and all that comes with taking care of it, his brother, and his faithful dog. This romance novel explores Ruby and Gabe's journey together but weaves in vandalism, scandal, and ultimately growth and redemption.

The narrator, Helen Johns did a fantastic job of voicing all the characters. They were able to convey emotions and tone through their speech; whether it be a romantic encounter or portraying anger and exasperation, you could really “feel” the character’s mood through the narrator’s voice. The combination of both Donna Ashcroft’s writing and Helen Johns’ narration brought the story to life and made me, the listener, feel like I was right there in the small town of Indigo Cove.

I really enjoyed listening to this audiobook and though the beginning had a bit of a slow build I found that once I learned more about the characters, I wanted to hear more about how each of their stories unravels. While this is a romance novel it had wonderful elements of mystery and intrigue. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more from Donna Ashcroft.

The main character in this Ruby bugged me a bit as she had major trust issues but also wouldn't listen to her friend. This one had some serious matters with guilt, trust issues, parent abandonment, and stealing. So it was a little more than the normal British country side romance- it was also steamy.

I liked the setting, her grandma, the pottery club (made we want to sit behind a wheel badly), the brewery, and friends. The narrator did a wonderful job with different voices.

Overall, 3 stars
3 steam

I received an audio ARC of this novel.

It was a cute, classic British lit novel involving love, deception, mystery, pottery and family. It definitely had some British hallmark vibes to it. Although predictable, it was an enjoyable read.

The narration was great, clear and understandable while also lively.

First of all, the narration of this book was lovely. Tone, accents, pace, everything. It was just so smooth to listen to.

This book centers around Ruby, who comes back to Indigo Cove to stay with her grandmother (Nanou) in her lovely little Cornish House. Ruby lives a predictable and routine life, nothing exciting but it's safe. She comes to town to help out at her Nanou's pottery studio. There she meets quite a few interesting characters, both fellow business owners in the area and students. And Gabe, the handsome and kind man who runs a local brewery with his brother.

Intermixed with a bit of romance is a mystery concerning vandalism and other crimes happening in the area, as well as a side plot of a friend and a paternity mystery. The plots interweave nicely, the descriptions of Indigo Cove are so detailed and it makes me want to visit and eat all the desserts they describe.

I truly enjoyed this book and I would love to read more by this author!

I love this book and author. It’s the first time I have read her books. It’s a fun and light read. Perfect for a beach/summer read. It also has some unexpected turns. Highly recommended.

I really wanted to like this one, but I honestly couldn’t. I think the premise of the story and central conflict were interesting, and I loved the setting. However, I simply could not get over how many times the main character explicitly stated her abandonment issues because of her father. So many times.

Thank you to Netgalley for the audio version of this book. I really enjoyed this book. I was part family part romance part art. The author did a beautiful job putting this story together seamlessly. I enjoyed listening to the book. I was able to really get into the story and the author made it feel like you are really there experiencing everything right along with the characters in the story.

This was a sweet story about family and friends who become family. Without giving too much of the plot away, there is a twist that initially leaves you wondering about one of the characters. The characters had some good growth and redemption arcs but overall I found the story a little lackluster. It was an enjoyable story the first time through, but not one that I would re-read. 3.5/5 stars.
Thank you Net Galley for the advanced copy of this book in return for an honest review.

I enjoyed listening to light romance with a touch of mystery. The grandmother and the pottery scenes were wonderful and are truly what make this book a gem. The storyline is a bit predictable but a great story with lovely characters. The narrator did a great job on this audiobook. It was a pleasure to listen to on a long drive.
