Thank you to Dreamscape Media and NetGalley for the advanced reader's copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This was my first Sue Roberts book and while I found the setting beautiful and compelling the love story was a little bit of a miss for me and seemed to really drag in sections. I really enjoyed the audio narration so I think having it on audio book helped me power through the story but it was a little bit of a miss for me.

This is my second Sue Roberts and I am sorry to say that I didn't love this one nearly as much as the first I read. The descriptions of Greece are beautiful and so very detailed. However, I found myself rather bored, but I will still be picking up Sue Roberts books in the future. This was just kind of a miss for me.

The cover is gorgeous. That is about the only good thing I have to say about this book. The rest is just blah.

The description is deceiving- I would not classify this as a romance. More of a story of self discovery. While Charlie does find herself, her path to doing so is quite boring. Nothing really happens- there is no real feeling- ever. She breaks up with her boyfriend in the most amicable, uneventful way ever. Engaged, together for four years, they sell everything and move to a different country, and they just decide they want different things and practically just hug each other and say goodbye. Absolutely no emotion at all.

I listened to the audiobook. Esther Wane narrates. For the most part, the narration is fine. However, in male dialogue, especially Darius, her voice is very annoying. It is clear and well paced.

My Rating: 2.5 round up to 3⭐️ /5

Charlotte (Charlie) decided to turn her dream of living in Greece into a reality. Charlie left her life in Chester, including her beloved bakery business, and bought a “fixer upper” in Crete with her fiancé. When home renovations came to an end, Charlie’s fiancé realized that Chester was his home, leaving Charlie to make the decision of calling off the engagement to stay. Charlie was determined to make her new life in Crete work. Charlie immediately connected with the neighbors and friendly locals, especially the attracted restaurant owner. Once Crete started to feel like home, Charlie had to fly back to Chester unexpectedly. While home, Charlie is reminded by all the things she has missed. Does Charlie return back to her new life, or will she stay where there is everything she has ever known?

My thoughts:
After listening to author’s description of the beautiful landscapes and delicious food, I want to plan a trip to Greece right now! Although I LOVED the in-depth descriptions, I found the storyline quite boring. The romance aspect and setting reminded me a lot of One Italian Summer. I feel that if I read this as a physical copy, it would have been a DNF for me, however the audiobook saved it.

The physical copy and ebook of What Happens in Greece are available now and can also be found on KindleUnlimited. The audiobook will be released on 7/7/21.

Thank you @netgalley for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

Started off a bit slow and bland. It is a light summer read though and makes you wish you could live in Crete too.

Did I immediately google Sue Roberts backlist after listening to What Happens In Greece? Yes I did! Her covers are all so cute just like this one and sound like a great escape! I was first star struck by this cover and then read the synopsis and was really intrigued… Sue paints Crete in a way that will have you saving your pennys for your next vacay to visit or buy a house… I loved that Charlotte sticked to what she knew what she wanted and that was to build a life in Crete for herself! The story or plot that the synopsis shared took a bit to get to but once it happened it was such a pleasure. Add this to your summer TBRS!

this was a cute book. I seriously loved the way they described Crete. I wish I was living in Greece and could visit Charlie’s bakery. This book had such a cozy vibe but I didn’t really connect to the actual story. Charlie wanting to up and move her life & then they just magically get on a plane next week and buy a house in Greece? Idk it just didn’t seem realistic & the fact that Jamie was on board and encouraged Charlie for them to go and look at the house they want.. only for him to get homesick after moving & then goes back to England?? I’m giving this 3 stars. Loved the cozy cute vibe but the story line was giving very much.. meh

A warm and cozy little read. After a heavy book this one was perfect. Nothing too stressful but a beautiful flow of life and characters to get swept up in. And the descriptions of Greek food and baked goods was tempting enough for me to look up recipes. This new novel is a perfect light summer read.

The narration was beautifully performed.
Thankyou to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the ARC.

DNF at 55%.
I recieved this as an audiobook arc from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

This was not for me. Based in th synopsis I expected a brief intro with the fiance, a move to Crete and then a break up followed by a romance.

The fiance didn't even leave until 40% into the book. I was unbelievably bored with the story. The relationship with the fiance had no chemistry or passion. I felt nothing towards the characters because the majority of the writing was madeup of detailed lists of what she does through out the day, what she does, how someone responds, and nothing else. There was a total lack of emotion. The synopsis also says this is laugh out loud funny? I didn't see a single joke, much less abythibg that would make me laugh out loud.

I just can't force myself to listen to another 3.5 hours if this.

The narratation was good for though.

Since I am going to Greece in less than two weeks I was so ready for this book to hit home, and the title quickly grabbed me. It was super light feel good read. I enjoyed the description of the Greece scenery and food which I am looking forward to when I go to Greece. I wasn’t in love with the main character and had a hard time connecting with her, but overall great read.

This story is so incredibly bland. I feel so whelmed. It's fine. It's not great. It's definitely not bad. But it just didn't excite me at all. The synopsis doesn't match the book very well, as her "moving on" phase doesn't begin until 40% in?? Maybe that was to establish her in her relationship so as a reader we could feel the loss too? Idk. But I didn't love it.

A nice and relaxing read. The book offers a glimpse at a break up and rebuilding finding oneself and pursuing what really makes them happy. Charlie always dreamed of moving to the sunny place of Crete leaving behind Chester, with her fiancé, Jamie. Jamie seemed to be following Charlie's dreaming but when they finally came to Crete, Jamie had second thoughts, broke up with Charlie and moved back to England. Now Charlie, although heartbroken decides not to give up her dream by opening a bakery shop with another Greek person and then develops a close bond with a handsome man named Darius. The descriptions of the island, the people, and the foods are exceptional and you can almost taste some of the dishes I swear! I loved it and can wholeheartedly say I've not read one of the "Greek" books and been disappointed yet. Artistic license aside, I loved everything else about this book - the characters, the depiction of the cottage and the conflict that Charlotte faces where she has to decide between her old life and her new one. I think many people secretly dream of a new life in the sun and this book allowed me to indulge the dream. Definitely a beach read.

Thanks to Netgalley, publisher and author for the opportunity.

It was supposed to be a dream come true, Charlotte and her fiance were going to rehab the lovely, but derelict cottage they bought in Greece. Only now, Charlotte is on her own after her fiance rides off into the sunset without her. Determined to make her dream come true. albeit alone, Charlotte gets right to work. She is taken in by the local villagers and soon finds herself rubbing elbows with handsome local, Darius. Life is sweet, until she learns that her fiance has had a change of heart and wants her back. What a lovely dream of a book this is! Charlotte is living my idea of the perfect life, I was envious

Buying a rundow cottage in Greece and leaving your entire life behind. A crazy, wine-fuelled idea, or the best decision she's ever made?
This was the perfect, easy, summer, beach-read! I read it in audio, in one sitting. The descriptions were as fabulous as the setting, the premise was amazing, the goat was a funny addition, and the characters were lovable. I loved Darius and the friendship he develops with the protagonist, Charlie. Some of the interactions between the characters may have been shaky, but I'm happy to see a depiction of a woman who knows what she wants, goes for it, and doesn't let go, no matter what!
I received this book in exchange for my honest opinion from NetGalley and Dreamscape Media.
