Florence, on her way to see her wealthy father-in-law whom she hasn't seen for awhile, is in a car accident that kills a man. New detective Dylan Bodine pairs up with about-to-retire veteran Carrie Fuller to investigate. Dylan has a lot of questions. The victim had no ID and there were no skid marks. Where did he come from? Why was Florence coming here after so long and why was she taking this particular route? When he discovers that her father-in-law is dying, he starts to investigate. The family drama that follows has lots of suspects and a bit of a surprise ending. I enjoyed this fast paced book. The chemistry between the two detectives is wonderful. The plot is well developed and believable. Nan McNamara did an excellent job with the narration. Her voice was well modulated and well paced. Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for giving me a copy of this audiobook.

Wow! I can't wait for more books with detectives Bodine & Fuller! I LOVE their interplay and relationship! This book was great - it had lots going on, intrigue, red herrings, and family shenanigans! It was fast-paced and exciting with humor and a tiny bit of romance thrown in for good measure. HIGHLY recommend!

Thanks to Netgalley I was able to listen to the audiobook. Not everyone feels that money is the answer to happiness, some prefer love!Could an estranged family plot the murder of one of their own. If so, who; if not, who?

Florence has been in an car accident. But, the more the police learn, the more they realize this is not a normal accident. The driver of the other car had no ID. The deeper the detectives dig the more dangerous this case becomes.

This story revolves around family and money! As you can guess, Lyndon is loaded! And he controls the purse strings. So, when he changes his will, it changes all the family dynamics. And this puts Florence in the cross hairs.

This story is intense and intriguing. Nothing like someone in the family losing billions to an in law to make murder come into play. But, the question is…which family member is responsible…you will need to read this to find out.

Nan McNamara narrated this novel. She did a great job with the intensity and all the voices.

Need a good family drama…THIS IS IT! Grab your copy today!

I received this novel from the publisher for a honest review.

This was a new author for me, but I’m definitely interested in reading more books by Mark Mills. I followed him on Goodreads and I see that he has several other books that look amazing!
In the opening of the book we meet Florence Winslow as she’s being rescued from a terrible accident. The other driver was killed and she fears she was at fault. But as the police investigate they suspect it was no accident and the other driver was actually trying to kill her. They learn that the killer could be linked to Florence’s father’s past or it could be linked to her husbands family. Florence was about to inherit a great deal of money from her husbands family. The book follows the investigation and the family drama as they solve this case.
I loved the narration on this one. The narrator read with the perfect amount of drama in her voice and did a great job of changing her voice to distinguish between each character. Once you start listening to this book, you won’t be able to stop

All she remembers is that she was driving down a deserted country road in northern Connecticut late at night on her way to visit her in-laws. A car hurtled out of nowhere and ploughed into her. She’s lucky to be alive. The other driver was killed on impact. The dead man had no ID and was driving a stolen vehicle. Piecing together the evidence, Dylan concludes someone wanted Florence dead.

PHEW this book. Every time you think you have this book figured out there’s a new twist. I have notes written down
• “a hit man?”
• “The kids?”
• “Ethical Investments”?
• “SO MANY LAYERS”!

So, Florence wakes up in the hospital she’s utterly confused. From there the people and the pace of the book don’t stop. There are so many people there are so many settings and places.

There’s a lot I liked about this book, the twists and turns. The surprises you didn’t see coming. Every time I knew who person X was NOPE.

Things I didn’t like: The reason for the hit. After all that build up it seemed a bit of a letdown. Dylan’s Girlfriend. She seemed like an unnecessary character and an unnecessary part of the story. But that’s a personal preference.

This was my first book by this author and after reading the blurb I was not sure what I was getting myself into. Florence wakes up in the hospital after being in a car accident and finds out she was hit by another car and that driver was not as lucky and died on impact. She is devastated. Dylan Bodie is called to scene to investigate and along with his partner Carrie Fuller they begin to piece together an intriguing tale of greed and dysfunctional family. Florence is the widow of the estranged son of one of the wealthiest men in the world who is on his deathbed. He has changed his will and called for Florence to visit him. Is this what set in motion her car accident? Racing through the countryside of New England to find answers this one kept me listening and not wanting to put it down. Twists and turns kept me guessing.

I have enjoyed the previous books I have read by this author and, although this book is very different from those, it was very good. A combination of a mystery police procedural with a bit of a thriller aspect to it. Very hard to put down.
My only complaint was with the budding romance between the detective and the main female character. This is not a spoiler, it is telegraphed very early on. It just didn’t seem to fit with the rest of the story and started way too early. There was nothing graphic or extreme about it but it just didn’t seem to fit. Otherwise I loved it.
Also it was hilarious that Florence was afraid of the cows. Mostly because there is a cozy series that I read with a Main character named Florence who is also terrified of cows.
Very good audiobook and excellent narrator.

I really enjoyed this book from Mark Mills. It's a good mystery and I loved listening to the detectives working together to unravel the whole thing. I had a little bit of confusion at the very beginning because a lot of characters were introduced and I hadn't solidified who was who yet and what the relationships were. Of course, this could be just me and I may have been distracted a bit while listening to the audiobook.

The main characters, Bodine and Fuller, were very well developed and I liked the way they worked together. Their relationship was built very nicely and by the end, I could really picture them as a great detective team. The story was basically about getting an inheritance and the family involved. But there were a lot of nice nuances along the way that made this story special. I hadn't looked at the preview information about this book and I thought this standalone would make a good series. And now that I look at the preview blurb after listening to it, I see it will be a series. That makes me happy and I will look forward to Bodine and Fuller's further adventures.

Florence WInslow is lucky to be alive after a car, seemingly coming from nowhere plows into her vehicle. She survives, the other driver does not. The police, however, don’t think she was just lucky, they believe something more sinister was going on. Detectives Dylan Bodine and Carrie Fuller discover that Florence is the daughter in law of one of the most powerful men in the country. It’s no secret that Florence has been estranged from the family for years, so why was she on her way to visit them the night of the accident? It turns out that Lyndon Winslow is dying and there is a lot of money at stake. Could Florence have had ulterior motives in making that visit? And where does the car crash play into all this? A twisty, complex thriller

In this audiobook, Florence wakes up in the hospital after a car accident that left the other driver dead. She was on her way to visit her in-laws. As detectives investigate the accident, they start to believe that someone was trying to kill Florence. Was it her in-laws or someone else?!

I really enjoyed this audiobook. It had great narration and was super fast paced. I listened to it all in one sitting while at work today!

Florence wakes up in a hospital after having a car accident that killed a man. She can't remember what happened,e xcept taht another care came out of nowhere to crash into hers. Dylan is a young detective who thinks Florence was perhaps too lucky. Something about this crash doesn't add up. With his partner, Carrie, ex-FBI agent, he digs deep in Florence's story and discovers that her father is one of the wealthiest man in America, and that he is dying...
This fast paced, action-packed crime mystery proposes super short chapters that will keep you reaching for "just one more" and enough suspects to keep you guessing. It's the first book in a new crime series. I read this as an audio book, in one sitting. Although I am a big fan of fast paced story, I couldn't quite relate to this one. I'd definitely be curious to read the next book in the series to see what more the author has to bring to the table.
