Cute children’s book about how two dogs go to the beach. It was beautifully illustrated. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for my honest feedback!

This story was cuter than I was expecting. It looks self-published, but a very good job. The illustrations have a wonderful simplicity of a beginning artist. The story has a bit of a cadence and rhymes. Some rhymes are harsh, and the cadence needs a little sandpaper but overall, this was a fun joyful read I would be happy to share with my patrons.

Aww this had cute illustrations.

It was quite wordy but I guess if the kid is capable of reading at a slightly more advanced level for their age, this works.

One star for the cute pups.

A cute picture book about two dogs at the beach. Though it picked a breed of dog that's not to fond of water.

A really sweet little book for very young children. Loved the illustrations and the simple story. Quite simply; two dogs go on an adventure to the beach.

This is a cute story about two dogs who go on a trip to the beach. The text is at an easy level for those just learning to read, and it's a great book for a parent /child to read together. The illustrations are adorable and eye-catching.

Rocky & Dog Go To The Beach by Stephen Stratford is a cute children’s book for ages 0-5. I love the illustrations in this book. They are so cute and really make the book a hit for children. This book has some rhyming words that gives it a rhythmic quality. The ARH-WOOOOOOOO, although irritating to me, gave the kids a way to participate along with the reading of the book. Even my cat, who was on my lap as I read, watched my lips as I read and her eyes got big with every ARH-WOOOOOOOO! This is a story of 2 dogs who take a plane to the beach for an adventure. It takes them through the trip to the beach, the time they spent there, their trip home and ends with them dreaming of their next adventure. I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

A very well illustrated book and interesting storyline. The illustrations themselves are ever so adorable, credit where credits due, so much attention and thought has been given to each illustration, it just brings the story to life. I totally agree with what other reviewers have written, the ARH-WOOOOOOOO is so fitting for the two huskies on each page.

My little girl loved the story we read the book every night before bed and she loved that she could join in with the arh-wooooooooo at the bottom of each page. We hope there’s another adventure for these two adorable huskies!

This book tells the story of two dogs who head out on an adventure to the beach. The book is told with some rhyming words that adds an almost musical and rhythmic quality to the story. Each page has one full page colour illustration and one white pages with dark grey font that is large and accessible. The pictures lend to the telling of the story and support in deciphering more difficult words. Each page also ends with ARH-WOOOOO! which is also a fun nod to the fact that these two dogs are huskies. I would recommend this book to parents and teachers of beginner readers in the age 4-8 range. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book!

The story of two huskies trip to the beach. I wish there had been more pictures. On most picture books, the words are on some sort of illustration, but here it was on a white page only.

While the concept and illustrations are super cute here. The actual execution is poor.

First, let's start with the marketing calling this a "bedtime story". I would never read this as a bedtime story for one clear, simple reason. At the end of each page there is an (all caps) phrase where the dogs go "AHWROOOO". Now I love books that get the toddler involved and yelling out phrases. But they are NOT the books for bedtime. This book is likely to rile a kid up and get them making noise. This is a good daytime story. One read when children need to slow down a bit or to help them wake-up after a nap. But it is not a good pre-nap or bedtime story. I do not like that it actually says in the blurb (and all the marketing I've seen) that this is a bedtime story.

Second, Rocky & Dog Go to the Beach is a bit all over the place. Do we need to have a quick recap on how to capitalize words? I just cannot by errors like this in kids books. Children's books need to be PERFECT when it comes to spelling, capitalization, and (most) general grammar rules. Kids learn bad habits so quickly, and if a favourite book is misleading it can be disastrous for their learning (one of a couple reasons I'm not a huge Dr. Seuss fan). On top of the messiness is the wording itself; this book is very oddly paced. At times there is a lyrical sense, but then flip the page and it's gone. The length and handling of each scenario (on each page spread) feels very different. Almost like they were written by different people.
I much prefer my children's books to be concise, clever (in a simple way), and obvious. A book about a couple dogs at the beach is unlikely to be a bedtime story (as I would assume it's exciting, like this one is); and so I expect the blurb on the back and overall marketing for the story to be obvious and not confuse what makes a good bedtime story.

Normally I'd say this just might need some work to get to a good place; but honestly it's on my list of worst books I've seen this year. So maybe it's worth starting over and leaving this one in the sand.

Please note: I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is an honest and unbiased review

Is this book available as a physical copy?

I mean it's so cute! And I am sure these dogs exist. Am I wrong, author?

Thank you, author for the copy.

The story feels incomplete somehow. Hope the next book happens.
