This is a great collection of 3 World War interconnected novellas about British Red Cross nurses. It's well written, and easy to tease out the medical foundation of the author. For anyone who loves historical fiction and World War stories of bravery, this is definitely one to check out. Great examples of courage and sacrifice by these nurses, and such an easy read as you quickly become invested in the stories. Apparently, this is the first time that they have all been published together in a collection, and I think that is brilliant! Structured in the form of three short stories, which present as many heroic female figures and eventually converge, the novel has some merits and many demerits.
The merits derive from foregrounding the female involvement in the First World War and the enormous contribution made by nurses to the welfare of soldiers, albeit in precarious conditions and with limited means. It also highlights another, perhaps lesser known, contribution of these same women to the success of the war and the defeat of the German empire.
The demerits, or rather, the demerit, which is a very big one, relates to the excessive romanticisation of the stories. The heroic maidens drooling over the sculpted abs (because they are always sculpted abs) of the male on duty are really unbearable.

Unfortunately I struggled with the War Girls as I just couldn't relate to the characters.

The story concept was well thought out so this was disappointing.

I enjoyed reading these short historical stories. This is a newer author for me which I look forward to seeing more from in the future. These are unique stories that will bring inspiration and determination. They are interesting and fast paced. The characters are connectable and bring each story to life. They are fast paced and easy to read. They are entertaining and I highly recommend reading them. You won't regret picking up this book. It is a great collection that will bring you back for more. Three short stories together in one book. Whilst three different stories set in WW1, they all have a similar feel. The book focuses on three different British Nurses all on different paths. Well written and cleverly crafted short novellas well worth a read.

I enjoyed these unique, vastly interesting, very well written stories of WWI. I don't read near as much about WWI as I do of WWII so I found these 3 stories engaging and interesting.
the story lines of the 3 novellas are of individual stories though the three do intertwined. In each a strong, brave nurse is showcased, pointing the spotlight at and highlighting the heroic roles these women played during a very intense time in history.
I recommend for a quick captivating, informative read.

What a intriguing book. Very hard to put down, although sad at times it was very informative of the times. Loved the plots and the varied characters which kept you engaged.
Considering the Author felt she wanted to visit the areas to get a feel for her novel but want able due to Covid, she did a grand job to portray the feel whilst reading.
She put over the bravery of the War girls as well as the casualties in the ghetto.
Well put together and informative, would certainly recommend reading.

This was a really enjoyable collection of three short stories about The War Girls. Each stroy was well written with well developed characters and engaging storylines. It was clear that each story had been well researched, which made each story read really well. I would definitely recommend.

This is an entertaining, well-written collection of three intertwined historical fiction WWI romance novellas. Each novella is fast paced with likable characters, a heartwarming romance, and a happily ever after ending.
"Saving the Rifleman" is the story of a romance between a valiant, intelligent, and capable female protagonist, and a warm and caring, strong soldier.
"Enticing the Spymaster" is a second chance romance with courageous protagonists, intrigue, and family drama.
"Aiding the Enemy" is a forbidden romance with a brave and compassionate female protagonist, a kind and thoughtful male protagonist, family tragedy, and suspense.
All three novellas depict the hardships and senselessness of war. They are a wonderful tribute to those who served during WWI.

I requested to read this not realizing it was made up of three short novels. My cover looked much different than the one on Goodreads or I probably wouldn’t have requested it because I try to stay away from overtly spicy reads, especially ones with covers like this.

I’m a bit of mood reader and from the beginning I had a hard time getting into this book. It just didn’t hold my interest. The writing style lacked depth and imagination and I felt like the whole book was just a lead up to the sex scene that I skipped over. I won’t be finishing the series.

When in a time of war can a connection between two people be real or is it just heightened emotions due to fear? This is a collection of 3 short stories set during World War 1 with overlapping characters participating in the same activities. Three different British Red Cross nurses stationed in hospitals in Brussell's spend their days helping the wounded and their free time smuggling messages with information about German activities and Allied soldiers trapped behind enemy lines out of Belgium. The men they help can't help but fall in love with them. These are their stories. Excellent characters fully developed intwined in creative plots that help heighten the emotions that the characters feel. I quite liked these stories and will be seeking out more books from this author as I can't wait to see what else she has for me to devour with my mind!

Each storyline is individual but the stories each follow a similar pattern and are just as compelling, interesting and suspenseful with enough action to keep you reading through each story quickly. It tells stories of three brave British nurses each serving in different roles within the hospital they are working. Rose, Maria and Judith are very strong female characters who risk everything to aid the allies in the war effort and save lives. The story is full of suspense, action, romance, compassion, cruelty, history, bravery and unselfishness. I loved it from start to finish. I really enjoyed the endings as they were pleasant and happy endings and didn’t disappoint.
It is wonderfully written and an easy read. I am sure it will warm your heart. I highly recommend The War Girls by Julie Rowe.

It’s centered around 3 Red Cross nurses each serving in different roles but there’s enough in each story to tie the nurse’s together and the things they do within the hospital they are working.

Julie Rowe’s research was evident in each story and the history was fascinating. I can’t wait to read more from this author.

Fantastic Read! War Girls has three books in one volume. Each book contains about thirteen chapters. I'm not much of a romance reader unless the book has some thing to teach me. If you need a book to surprise with Great war time romance, War Girls by Julie Rowe will warm your heart. Although there is so much wit and fun packed sequences in the novel, there was in it compassion and cruelty.

Saving the Rifleman: British Red Cross nurse Maria Hunt took care of countrymen who were wounded at a Hospital in German occupied Brussels, Belgium 1914. She meets wounded British soldier - Lieutenant John William Bennet at the hospital in a closet which is converted storage area kept for bandages and other medical supplies. John was being told this hospital was a safe place for British soldiers and the matron of the hospital Rose Culver could help find an escape route for him who was caught behind German lines. To escape out of the country the matron could be able to supply fake identity papers as she as already helped many. Will Maria Hunt the woman in his arms be the key to his survival? He was prepared to kill to protect her. Wounded soldier John Bennet plans his trip back to his home England enroute Nederland's taking Maria Hunt along with him surrounded by German patrol. Whereas Maria helped wounded British soldiers out of Belgium for sometime. In John Bennet, Maria finds respect and self esteem. They passionately fall in love for each other in their escape journey back to England. John had given up his safety to help Maria. She was a simple nurse from and impoverished family while he was an officer and a gentleman. Having coming from opposite ends of society with very little common ground also they have challenge ahead of them to get out of Belgium into the Netherlands. There were miles of road to travel and hundreds. If not thousands of enemy soldiers between them and the border. As his injuries worsen, and Maria was no longer safe, can Maria find courage to guide him through the war-torn countryside? And if they get back to England, will their Burgeoning desire survive the ravages of war?

Enticing the Spymaster: Judith Goddard A dual citizen with family ties to Belgian royalty and the British military, she works as a Cross nurse in a German hospital. As a member of the Belgian family with a father in the British military, she had become an unofficial liaison between Belgium and England. She was the one Germans wanted. The one person still in Belgium who could give the Germans the leverage they crave. Rumor said the Germans wanted to use her to infiltrate the British military with spies. She worked closely with a British Nurse Rose Culver, trained under Rose. Judith feared that her systematic spying would hurt the Germans. Jude is shocked when British Expeditionary Force Captain Michael Lawrence her old crush who broke her heart turns up in her hospital wounded and in German uniform. She agrees to flee with him to Nederland as she must deliver an important information about a poisonous gas attack to the British War Office. Are they in danger having started their journey to the border and giving in to their mutual passion.

Aiding the Enemy: Rose Culver, the Red Cross head nurse who aids allied soldiers caught behind enemy lines, helping them flee into neutral Nederland's. She is in danger. Rose falls in love with Dr. Herman Geoff. As a doctor, he admires Rose's skill and conviction. As a man, he can no longer deny his attraction to her. But when Rose is arrested for treason, Herman must choose between love for her and duty to his country.

I really liked the ending of these three books in one volume, As they had pleasant and happy endings. It was not disappointing.
